Hi Steve quick question. Are the ground reaction forces completely different with a wedge in your hand? Or are you simply doing a mini version of the full swing? Do you model your wedge play after any certain player who is considered a good wedge player? As far as how their ground reaction forces move? The reason I'm asking is because I think there's a completely different way to use your feet for wedges and I'm just trying to narrow down the options
Steve this is absolutely fascinating! A question I would like to try to understand further is the difference between the classic and the modern golf swings. I'm under the impression that the modern golf swing the hips move more in A sagittal plane more like a squat or a lunge so they're pushing their feet more toward the ball like kicking dirt on the ball I think Justin James mentions that kind of feeling Martin borgmyer mentions the same feeling where you're pressing the ground toward the ball to create space with your hips on the sagittal plane so your hips are getting further away from the ball. I would contrast this with a classic golf swing which would be a little more like Jack Nicklaus or pain Stuart especially Sam's need they did not create space in the downswing and a lot of times it almost look like they're extending earlier their hips were getting in the way in appearance obviously it didn't. But in my understanding the classic swing was more around their body like swinging in a barrel sort of thing. Now with your depth of understanding of the footwork would you say that the classic swing had more rotational motion of the feet? More like primarily a clockwise and counterclockwise type of feel rather than pushing toward the ball or creating space with their hips?
Hi Jacob. With 3d force plates we are now able to measure the a/p forces. From my deep study of over 100 players I completed 3 years ago I found that those who extended excessively to the ball, pelvis thrust, lacked a/p toe/heel force under their lead foot . Everyone had enough a/p force heel/toe through their trail. Both forces are required to create a force couple which aids rotation, lead hip back, trail hip forwards. Now we can now measure any deficiency and therefore fix magnitudes and timings. Many players are aware of this now, those you have mentioned like Martin Borgmeier i have worked with personally.
@@SteveFurlongerGolfPerformance so essentially there is no difference between the classic and modern swing I was just trying to solve if they were actual different mechanics. Payne Stewart swing to me looks very rotational and definitely more transverse than sagittal. So what you're saying is according to your studies even if it looks different patterns are very similar?
There has been categories given to certain types of players, sliders/gliders, spinners and jumpers. Predominantly Lateral, a/p or vertical force players. These can be easily identified via video. The fastest on the planet max all three of three linear forces
Steve: this is great, thanks for posting. Around 45 minute mark you guys are talking about adding loft but not laying the face open to soften the shots. Can you explain how to do this a bit?
Correct me if I’m wrong but if the person using the putter doesn’t keep the putter square there is no way the putter can get back to square unless it’s on a swivel
It means the face doesn’t turn over, it’s fully face balanced. Like fully. You have to completely let your wrists turn over to do it and if you do thag then you suck at putting anyway
I just got the watch for Xmas. Very happy with it. Only two things im missing (or maybe can't find) are: it's not telling me the distance played after the round and also not telling me how long i needed for the round 🤷🏼
I'm not sure I get the math on this. If you turn your foot clockwise your Trail foot clockwise in the backswing isn't that inhibiting your turn? Wouldn't your foot need to do the opposite of what your body is doing because of friction? So in the backswing your Trail foot would feel more like it's turning counterclockwise because that would be your foot pushing the opposite of Direction your body is turning.
First you transition the pelvis at half way backswing, its rotation away from target must be stopped, this torque is applied . Also the trail hip loads internally. All done before any counterclockwise twist
This is such a brilliant & detailed explanation to help some of us weekend worriers get more speed and distance, from a better understanding of these forces. Top job Steve!
It looks like it was really well thought out, both on a golf platform level, and engineering level as well. Well done Tittle. Tittle X if your reading this, do not capitalize on my words and Raise the price please😉. Thx. 😅
I don’t think it tracks shots in the sense of linking distances to clubs. You can certainly measure a shot but there is no way of saving that distance to a club. If you want to assign a distance to a club, you have to write it down. Not a bad thing actually. My Garmin tracks shots to clubs, but if you play a Pitch or a Chip, then that affects the ‘average' distance for that club. So I like the Bushnell version. I REALLY like that the bottom right button constantly gives a running score against Par. Brilliant idea and really useful.
Good review. I think there is a clip on now for the range finder. I have been using this trolley for two years and love it. A couple of minor negatives. The flask holder stretch strap has broken twice. They did send me a new one after the first broke and the new one was a different design so assume they knew they had issues. The second one broke in much the same way. Also, the umbrella holder is a bit odd, maybe I’m not using it correctly but that in itself is a problem. Oh and lastly, the magnetic catch on the storage holder is a bit weak and has opened a couple of times emptying the contents when it’s in the downward position. But it is still great and I would give it a 9/10.
Great video and presentation Steve thanks for taking the time. Hey I ordered a downshift board, haven’t got it yet but how about using a pool noodle on lead foot with it? Another question, but not a lot of videos on using a/p force to get rid of early extension or timing on when to extend.. thanks again
It's debatable if ripstop is waterproof showers for 5 minutes yeah. I just got a addidas sb ripstop shower jacket. One thing you can do is use nikwax wash in waterproofer as you can any man made fibre i believe its light and definitely wind resistant.
Been lucky enough to get in Steve's diary and have a 1 2 1 lesson. He is a fantastic pro, particularly good at explaining the context of the data from force plates. I am still working at the homework Steve 🙂
This is a brilliant review. I was literally about to message you and ask if the frame was magnetic for an RF but you even got that in as well. Easy enough to expoxy a tiny little rare earth magnet to whichever side of the frame is best for you and then the RF is easier to grab than from the little bag pocket above the ball pocket which I tend to leave open. I literally cannot see a weakness with this product. I really dislike 3 wheeled trolleys and those stupid brakes. This looks the ticket and is going to replace my ancient 2 wheel powerkaddy pull trolley that has been in use for literally the thick end of 20yrs. It is still fine but you have to strap the bag in everytime which is a ballache. I love that the bag just permanently sits on the frame and you just add the wheels and pull out the handle. Minimalistic perfection. Thanks again, spot on review. Concise, no unnecessary babbling and talked about everything that needs talking about. All the best.
