in a 1994 courtroom as john fogerty's defense team argues that fantasy record's allegations of copyright infringement are unfounded, they wheel in a courtroom television. the TV plays a typical montage of late 1960s counterculture... the be-ins, Woodstock, the acid tests, american soldiers in vietnam, war protesters, etc. the montage is set, in usual form, to 'fortunate son' and the audio and video pair perfectly. they replay the montage, this time using 'run through the jungle' and the effect is the same... all who are present are taken back to that turbulent period in american culture. "now, let's try something else..." they replay the montage a third time, and while it is clearly the same vocalist heard, the effect is not quite as potent beneath the enthusiastic chorus of 'put me in coach! I’m ready to play...' a fourth example plays. again, the same montage but now set to the song in question - alleged by fantasy to be nothing more than "'run through the jungle' with new words" after 'the old man down the road' plays and the audio/video exhibit is wheeled away, fantasy records immediately chooses to drop the lawsuit.
I get a kick out of this video. Not only does welcome the return of John Fogerty after nearly a decade but it restored his creative juices musically but he made about 5 or 6 cameos in all! Beginning with the Crocodile Dundee-like hermit unveiling an old Fender Tweed amp with a cable that runs 5-10 miles long to where he appears as himself wearing black[Not to mention his characters donned in black in between]at this video's climax plugged into a Fender Stratocaster in fiesta red. Although it was absurd that this song resulted in the most bizarre court cases where he sued for plagerizing himself(for the Creedence song "Run Through The Jungle"?!?!).
Told someone the other day that this was my favorite video of all time! They asked what the video was about...my explanation was simple, it tells the true life story of an extension cord and all the ups and downs it went through in it's life!!! 🎸🎸💀💀
