I grew up with my dad playing Sabbath Sabotage, The Who, Deep Purple Machine head aswell as pretty much everything Fogerty, no way u come here without a good reason! 😎
Two years later, I can confirm this. Saw him live, first show he's performed since getting the rights to his music back, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Legendary.
@@kanelewis4556, no... a pastel blue mustang with bucket seats and an 8 track player. You just couldn't keep the tapes in your car during Summertime in Texas. A few of mine just melted in 110 degree weather
He was taken to court over this song. Apparently the record company who recorded run through the jungle tried to say he ripped off the riff.. the judge sided with John because he wrote both songs. Now you know.
@@Robotiger the best part of the court case was when John literally brought a guitar into the courtroom and played both songs, just to prove that the label is full of crap.
@@sunrisings292 ~ Rumor is that the Judge was an "Old Man who lived Down the Road" just a little ways. An, He a-liked John's a silver stringed picking guitar music sure enough. Heh!
I remember watching this video in 85 when it first came out on MTV, back when MTV was cool. They played rock and metal and no rap and bubble gum BS! We were all metal and hard rock teenagers. When this played it had all of our attention, simply because the voice. We all knew it was the CCR dude, yes John Fucking Fogerty and we all loved it! Man, time passes so quick. Now it's a classic just like me and all my old friends from the 80's! We also grew up as kids in the 70's where some of the best music that was ever written began. If not the 70's rock, there would be no hard rock and metal! kudos to AC/DC and ZZ-top and everything in between.
I just remember it coming out the first time and I was like umm what the fuck is this 😂 that’s why the 80s will go down in history as one of the best decades
@@brianwade879 Army. Was only in from 85-88. In hindsight I regret not making a career out of it. I would have had my 20 years in 16 years ago this September. But instead, I am now 54 and still working my ass off!
This is a kick ass song. The video enhances the meaning so that listeners can form their own opinions as to how it relates to them personally. John Fogerty, as a guitarist is in a league of his own with masterful unique chord changes, coupled with a touch of reverb. His lyrics are haunting to say the least. Love this guy
Funny thing, I was listening to ZRock back around 1990, got introduced to a LOT of cool metal stuff there, even got my introduction to TROUBLE (Misery Shows, Act II)on ZRock, but they even played CCR Green River amongst all the metal and hard rock tunes (Metallica, Motorhead, Megadeth, Primus, Metal Church, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc etc etc).... shows what respect there was for the rock guitar sound of JC Fogerty...love him and them always
Here you go, a masterpiece by John Fogerty! He take the thunder from the mountain He take a lightning from the sky He bring a strong man to his begging knee He make the young girl's mama cry You got to hidey-hide You got to jump and run You got to hidey-hidey-hide The old man is down the road He got the voices speakin' riddles He got the eye as black as coal He got a suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide And he stands right in the road You got to hidey-hide You got to jump up run away You got to hidey-hidey-hide The old man is down the road He make the river call your lover He make the barking of the hound Put a shadow 'cross the window When the old man comes around You got to hidey-hide You got to jump and run again You got to hidey-hidey-hide The old man is down the road The old man is down the road You got to, you got to, you got to Hidey-hidey-hide
Well listen to all the southern rock from The Band and they were mostly Canadian it's the soul of the artist not their demographics always that's why some white boys can rap or play the blues too.
The Fogerty Bros. went to my high school (El Cerrito 94530). No swaps there! I did make it to Lodi on my BSA 441 Victor once but luckily didn't get stuck there. I think I heard them play a couple of times live. What an experience. We had some real talent in the S.F. Bay Area back in the day.
Awesome song! John has such a strong, distinctive voice that whether CCR, solo or background vocals you immediately know it is the amazing John Fogarty.
@@TheShiningEnergy The owner of the publishing rights sued him. In order to get out of a bad contract he had to sell his publishing rights. It took a long time but he did finally get them back.
My father was a mean drunk with a fowl ruined spirit. This song was the only way I could describe him to others. The video still is one of the most brilliant ever! Huge Fogerty fan here in Nova Scotia !
@@bluesmokerH1 Maybe he was beat everyday, maybe he wasn’t, Ronald Reagan father used to put cigarettes out on his neck, he became one of the best President’s in history No excuse in life
Just remember darling, he's the one who had to live inside his own head, you are lucky you were just an on looker, my sympathy though, Australian Carolx
True it is a little like RUN THROUGH THE JUNGLE, but I love it an you cannot rip-off yourself! My Hat Goes Off to the talent of Mr. John Fogerty. This Video really looks like ONE TAKE~ So well done
I remember watching this video when I was a little kid and thinking it so weird. I totally forgot it until I heard the song a few days ago. It really stuck in head so I decided to try to find it on here. Brings back great memories❤️
@@josephsimeon6117 If you do not recognize the riff in I Heard It Through the Grapevine then you haven't heard one that inspired hundreds to follow....
Bad Company was a British Band and when Paul Rodgers asked about the Southern/Blues-rock guitar and vocal sound, he simply said because that is what we were going for and I guess we a are good at it because many people assumed we were a band from the Southeastern United States until hearing an interview.
I remember watching this video as a kid in the 80s and that part at the end where John is standing there playing his Strat in the road was so iconic and badass.
This was 1985 and videos were slapping. This video is an example of less is more. Following the cord was perfect. From 83 to 87 MTV was at the height of their powers.
One of my faves.... How is it that every song John makes is an amazing story, some even books, the man is genius, and playing the six string is built into his DNA for sure....
I've always loved CCR even though they were a bit before my time. My parents listened to them when I was little. CCR brings back some of my best childhood memories 😍
I can't believe that CCR broke up.they were all friends who grew up together in California. Didn't they understand that they were onto something huge.they put hits out like McDonald's puts out Burger's.. Unbelievable how they couldn't settle there differences for the good of the band and fortune and fame.they would have been huge had they stayed together and there all still alive except John's brother Tom,so they could have still been the very top in hits and record sales of all time, unreal.what a waste.
An American Gothic Folklore Mythological bad ass - "John" walking with his silver stringed guitar right out of a Manly Wade Wellman American folk-story.
I saw him last week in PA. He was incredible and sounds great for being 76. His sons are now part of the band which is so awesome (they're also very talented).
Unforgettable voice, anyone from the 70's and back can tell you it's CCR in two notes..such an amazing influence on the generations who listened to them, just legendary
One of my favorites!!! I grew up listening to gangsta rap all day being from the hood!!! Imagine me bumping this in my Lincoln continental!!! Lol…. Now that’s gangsta!!!
I loved the way he explained it, one the stand he pulled out his guitar and showed how this song wasn't the same as CCR and the judge said you cant plagiarise yourself case closed :P
I remember this RECORD when I used to go to School at United Tribes in Bismarck No.Dakota ; it reminds me of driving my 1970 Ford Galaxy back in 1985 around that City
David Barnes Best guitarist ? He’s decent but have you ever heard of Beck, Clapton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Prince, Page, et al ?
This song reminds me when my Dad and I would hang out and shoot pool. Miss You Dad, not a day goes by that I don't think of you, Love You Old Man. Rest In Paradise Dad, till next time we meet.. 😔🙏
Fogerty one of those gifts from God that is so good he is in a class all by himself, a genre(sound, band, institution unto its or himself) few measure up Johnny Cash, Steve Winwood, Jim Morrison, and Joe Walsh.
EVERYONE knows the greatest era for rock was the 70's....then the 60's ,then the EARLY 80's...from 87 on it went criunge ....it also very much depends on WHAT you call rock.
This song sounds so clear so crisp so fresh imho. It always did and still sounds great even now. His distinctive voice and some great guitar too don't forget. The heartbeat of CCR. The voice. The spirit.
When CCR was new to the radiation in OKC , and I was in my first kid band , we played a LOT of their songs . Young and older alike loved their music , and it got us a lot of work . We wore out a few albums setting the needle back to the song's start , over and over , 'til we got it right . I didn't know yet about ASCAP fees for public. " venues " , and I wondered aloud if we should be sending them some money ! In retrospect , it was my first attempt at studying style and composition . I'm near 70 years now , and I still listen to and play Fogerty's music ! I don't mean for this to sound like it's about me . All that stuff is just point of reference . This music is as great as any , and really tells relatable stories . It's up to ALL OF us to see it lives on !!!
At the beginning i was like John Fogerty , ,That,s John Fogerty and the after 43 mile,s of cord and John standing in the middle of the dam road, that was one of the happest days of my life, and Now he steel kicking out that Sound, and his family right there ,best dance band EVER the best sound
I've always loved CCR and when this came out I was 19 years old living in a barracks on Whiteman Air Force Base, Misery. Whiteman Airplane Patch! I bought this CD in May, 1985 and it was my 3rd ever CD after the boss and purple rain. I remember that May the Base would not turn on the A/C in the barracks(but every other building had A/C) until it turned 80 degrees 3 days in a row. Well it got hot in those barracks, so hot that when I left my room there were guys sleeping in the dirty hallway. Tensions were high a couple of disgruntled airmen went to the day room and threw the brand new console TV out the 2nd floor window. Next thing we know we've got room inspection and I'm standing in attention in the hallway while the commander walks over sleeping airmen. Well, everybody's sweating the comm commander finally got the message and got on the hallway phone to the civil engineer commander the a/c got turned on that day. Day room was locked up for awhile and they took out the beer vending machines as the law had changed from 18 to 21. Those were the worst barracks I was ever in and I was in A LOT of barracks/dorms around the world. Fly safe fellas enjoy your Fogerty and CCR!
