@@bratovitpierwszy2617 I still use it for some situations where I need something compact with a good drum look. Tama still sells these though, but the colors they sell have changed
Hello! Nice video it has helped me a lot. Does the throne fit in the drum sets case? Also how many inches is your ride? I want to see how big cymbals the drum sets case fit.
When its tuned a bit higher, with EMAD on the kick drum it actually resonates a bit better, which provides a bit more bass (even if the pitch may be higher). But yes, it will not achieve the same level of low end bass as a larger set of drums. It can work great for some genres of music still.
@@FrizzyDiouleBiGbonus maybe from spanish it works better.
It is tuned low. Each drum does have its own relative pitch. But anyway, I should've made the video showing the drums in different tunings. High, mid, and low tunings as well as the mathematical tension that would get the most resonance for each circumference. Perhaps in the future I can do that. Nowadays, I am enjoying a more resonant tuning with calftone heads
I am one of those who bought an 18 inch Evans EMAD bass head for the Tama Pancake and it did not fit either hoop. I then put it on my 18 inch Catalina Club bass batter hoop and it fit. Put the CC batter head on the tama and it fit. A Remo Calfskin head sounded like paper on the batter side so I put it on the reso head and the kick has nice deep tone now. Coated emperors on the toms tuned medium high really boom. Coated Ambassador for the snare batter was an upgrade too, but not as much difference as getting rid of those plastic tom heads.
Indeed. I changed all the heads to evans and I love the tone. Snare I switch to calftone. It's goodnto highlight you had issues with kick drum heads... I didn't but saw another comment mentioning the same, so maybe there is some QC issue going in hmmm
Did you have any issues fitting the Evans heads on the bass drum? I have a read a bunch of reports of people saying the bass drum hoops are very undersized and don't seat well on Evans heads (if even seat at all) without forcing them.
No issues, but it needs to be a bass drum head, and not a tom head. 18" tom heads are slightly different. Maybe those people were using 18" tom batter heads. The metal collar is different in the tom heads. I've tried a few different 18" heads without issue, so I'm going by that. By the way if budget allows, do check out sidekick drums for their pancake kickdrum... I got their 22x6 and OMG, it sounds huge
Im not sure what the official rating is, but in the video in the beginning there is about 300lb (280 I think to be precise 55lb, 45lb, 25lb plate pairs, and the bar I think is 30lb since its a 6foot bar). Most I ever put on it was 350 (same but also adding the yellow 35lb plates). If you google something like "york barbell 204 rack rated for pounds" it seems the max recommended weight is about 400lb per some websites (cant see the rating on Yorks own website though) Anyways its a fantastic compact rack.
@@CoreyShelton-bc9qpon the rack with the bar on it of course... for a squat. I think I had also gently failed some squats on it, so the safety bars are definitely strong to hold that.
Andres, thanks for creating this. I just bought a Tama pancake kit for house parties and was wondering how loud L80s were as I want to keep, “stage,” volume down for guests.
I think they'll work, you may want to choke the drums a bit too though with a t shirt or some moongels. I occasionally take compact drums to jam w friends on parks. I use the l80s in those occasions, and simply put moongels on the drums. If I can make a bit more noise I take the ageans, which are better balanced w the drums (by that I mean not as quiet as the zildjians by a noticeable amount)
Nice video man, appreciate someone showing off the portability of this kit, which was what I was primarily curious about. I would change the title though, to reflect that it's part 2 of the comparison. This didn't show up on RU-vid search, though the other one did, and I had to go into your channel itself to find this. Thanks!
OO wow thank you soo much for pointing that out.... Im glad it was usefult. The Pearl is way more portable, and its what I use when I need the ultimate portabilit, but this TAMA sounds SOOOoooo good.
@@SimpleAndyRock that's great to hear! I'm looking for a portable gigging kit as I live in an apartment. Had some experience with the Pearl and was curious about the Tama. Thanks again for the comparison!
Hey man great video! Because I came across it, I took the plunge and purchased the BFD3 pack for my TD-50, so again thanks a million. Question: I'm assuming there's still no dedicated key map for our kit, correct? Like you, I'm using the TD-30 preset, and while it's decent, the ride configuration leaves a lot to be desired in terms of bell/shoulder/tip separation. Really love having the option with the Roland USB ride to assign a nice crash to my shoulder zone, and am missing it with this configuration. Have you come across any workarounds for this or ae you just going in yourself to assign the midi notes you where want? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey, yeah it's an awesome software, but indeed there is no map for td50. I used td30, and then any missing stuff or stuff id like to adjust I'd tweak via either the learn button, and for hi hat there is a section where you can tweak the open close states. I had to change the curve at which it would trigger the close sound for most sample packs as I found I'd have to put a ridiculous amount of force for the closed state. So changed it to feel like a real hat. But yeah long story short there isn't a full preset. Bfd3 to me sounds better than sd3, but sadly it seems it's not as well supported since inmusic bought the company.
Hey man! Is it still working ok in 2023? I really want to buy it but i’ve read many people complaining about BFD. Is it still working ok for you? Thank you
It works, but it was really buggy a year or so ago (EDIT: its working flawlessly now when opened inside the DAW, instead of as standalone app). I almost lose my presets when inmusic bought it, and almost lose my mind with that lol. It's pretty stable now though. I still think it's the best vst, and often goes on sale for real cheap. BUT, I for fear it could buggy again am not sure if to recommend it. If you keep backups you are good (that's how I restored my presets)
I just want it practice and have fun with my kit. Im no music producer or something like that. It’s only 99 now, i will give it a shot. In my opinion, it’s the best sounding and it has a lot of Great expansions. My only doubt it’s that i use Windows 11.
@@NachoRF By the way wanted to update ya in that it is not buggy when inside the DAW... its performing flawlessly for me there. It still sounds way way better than SD3 I think. May do some video in the future using both.
@@SimpleAndyRock nice! Well hell, would you happen to have any VH hi hat setups for sale now? I have an alesis dm8 hi hat pedal and its crap lol. Its the weak link the kit ive built.
@@FreakishPreacher I have this one for sale actually.. the vh13. But are you on a roland kit? Asking as I don't know how good it would work in a non roland kit, but with the roland brains it's great
you probably aren't following comments any more but I just picked up the new TD50k2 and I am trying to keymap them in BFD3 and I am not sure how to map rimshots? Any help would be greatly appreciated
I noticed a few people mention their roland cymbals choke when using bfd3. Try looking for a setting for "cymbal choke shot". I disabled that on my roland. It was under "midi">"control" for my roland.
I could but I am honestly not doing anything out of the ordinary. I am using the TD30 preset as a start, so with that along its 95% there. What does make a big difference is the library being used. For example the "Black Album" cannot produce a completely closed sound, perhaps due to the ambience, or maybe the sample of such is just missing in the library. What issues are you having?
@@SimpleAndyRock thanks for your answer, my crashes and ride stop like i'm muffuling them just after hitting them but i'm not, so i can't use them properly, i think it's just a setting on the key map but i can't spot the issue...
@OLIVIER FILIPE Movie Scoring aa yes, that's due to an annoying feature in the newer Roland's. But, you CAN disable it. In my roland it's under "midi >control". Its called "cymbal choke shot". Disable that and that should fix it
thanx for the video....i also have a JJ Jr..its not just 'layinig around' but standing tall!🙃😉 i feel the DI out would be way better if there was a way to bypass the cab sim and use other cabs or IRs....
Sorry if laying around sounded like a negative thing hehe. It's a fantastic amp, indeed. I did mess up however, in forgetting to include more about the IR. An IR loader would indeed have been cool. Love how Revv's amps include a built in Torpedo cabinet ir loader and software
@@SimpleAndyRock Would you be willing to share your TD-50 keymap? I'm getting back into BFD3 after being away from eDrums for a while. I just received my VAD706 and would greatly appreciate any help you could provide to get the TD-50x up and running with BFD3.
It's a Dayton Audio SA230 for the larger device.... and for the mini buttkicker I used a nobsound g2 which was a cheapest $50amp. The issue I had with the mini was it would overheat and shutoff.
Im gonna be uploading another review this weekend. If there is a specific mini AMP you guys would like to see let me know. I was going to probably show the Diezel Micro VH4
Hey guys sorry I been late. I finished the video and will be uploading it this weekend. Lookout for that, especially if you are curious about a tiny diezel amp.
Hi Andres! Thank you for all the fantastic samples through the Friedman JJ-Jr. It sounds amazing and very full for only 20 watts as you mentioned. Like 3 and subscribed. 👍
Thanks man.. Yeah, I noticed that added darkness you mention. I believe it was in part but not sure on whether that was caused by the ribbon mic, or perhaps the kemper algorithm tried to valve-ify it, as it's likely designed around tube saturation. But overall I was happy with it. I posted a few other kemper profiles with other mics, or mic positions.
How does it sound, I also have this same mic running into focusritre Isa one pre amp....I do rap vocals and this mic sounds full not harsh and takes eq very well...a little on the dark side but post eq can bring out airy frequencies easy... I've owned tlm102, Aston origin and sm7b and this mic just fits my voice better... interesting to hear your thoughts. Cheers
So far to be honest i havent had too much of a chance to use it, but I love how nice it sounds. I will be comparing it to the Townsend emulations, and the Antelope emulatioons of the U87. This is the first LCD condenser mic I try that sounds like on of those ultimate classic mics, while costing less than a grand. They've done amazing work.
@@SimpleAndyRock cheers for reply....I also have antelope solo mic with discrete 4 interface and the emulations are very close, but my beez neez u87 sounds amazing especially with the ISA ONE mic pre...I found with the antelope edge Solo got quite harsh in some of my vocal recording, not all only some where is the beez neez u87 is very smooth and less EQ needed👍
BFD3 is the most real virtual drums...normal people prefers the pretty looked Superior Drums or EZdrummers, yes, they are great libraries too, but BFD3 is another level of detail, sampling and modeling
@@miriangraafsma9732 Addictive Drums is great, but even with his own file format compression, you cannot compare a 9 GB aprox library with expansions with the monstruous +100 GB of BFD3...Yes sample size is not the only thing that matter but BFD3 also have a ton of features to achieve realism combining traditional sample with modeling capabilities that Addictive doesn´t have.... Although Addictive Drums is a GREAT Drum VST, I made my first EP with him and many people ask me - Hey dude, do you record real drums? -
Lol, man some of those bachata guitarrist be shredding on that fretboard hehe. To be honest I'm not a super bachata fan, but do enjoy some of the guitar work.
Ok you’re a genius. Your snare and Hi hats sound so good. . I’m having the hardest time just getting my hi hats to trigger correctly. Any chance you can share a tutorial!! Please:)
Hey man, thanks a lot I appreciate it... I'll try to make a video this weekend. But in the meantime, try the dynamic curves, against how you play. Also watch for sample packs that are recorded too hot (Sphere pack, for example sounds amazing but triggers terribly). The main ingredient for me was getting the Evil Drums sample pack by Joe Barresi as its extremely detailed. The amount of detail makes it easier to adjust for dynamics. Ive found that one, also the Metallica set, the Jazz Noire set are all incredibly detailed. But anyways yeah let me know what youd like me to cover. I can aim to get a video with some details on that.
@@SimpleAndyRock Thanks for getting back. I didn’t realize that the sample pack could be the issue. I will check out Evil Drums. I figured the mapping in BFD3. But it’s the pads. I have the Roland VAD with TD27. My hi hat is only one pad moving up and down and when I hit the top and also edge, it triggered the same midi key. Although it triggers differently with Addictive drums 2. Haven’t got to the snare yet. I will today. Very confused with pads triggering and dynamics! Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. As I will be racking my brain today trying to figure this out!! Thanks Andres. I will get the Evil Drums!
@@JimAvakian if its mainly the hi hats you want to improve the sabian cymbal pack is sampled beautifully (and im not even a fan of sabian cymbals, but the way they are miked sound fantastic)
@@SimpleAndyRock Hi Andres. yes, the hats & snare. and Thanks again for your help on this. greatly appreciated! Man, you really dialed it in so beautifully. Ok now I'm deep diving in today with the TD27 and BDF3 layering and dynamics. hopefully, i can figure it out , and make it sound as good as your kit.
Andres. I have a question for you. I’m having an issue with the ride. When I hit the bell then hit the bow. The bow hit chokes the bell sound. Do you experience this? Ty
excellent!! sound is amazing. glad i saw this video. I just purchased the TD27 and have BFD3. have to map it now. wondering how can you play a snare roll on TD27 and have it sound realistic with BFD3?
I play it at any time with headphones and its fine... However, do keep in mind, I have it on a raised platform with tennis balls as feet. So its suspended in the air. In terms of loudness, the kick would drive downstairs neighbors crazy if you dont suspend it. Its very cheap to build a suspended platform however. Id say about 100 or so. Definitely not more than 200 bucks... Id recommend putting the whole thing on rubber... I can work on a video showing the setup and noise if it helps. In terms of stick noise you should be fine, unless the walls are super thin. But I've had the same setup in various condos with no issues. But just to give you a REFERENCE. If you have a tylenol or advil bottle. Put the cap in your pants pocket. Hit the cap thats in your pocket with the drumsticks. Id say the volume is very very close to that.
