Roland TD 50 and BFD3 

I meaan I think SD3 is awesome too, but yeah BFD3 is my favorite.. Evil drums and the Camco samples especially are really nice

How would you rate Addictive drums vs BFD3?

@@miriangraafsma9732 Addictive Drums is great, but even with his own file format compression, you cannot compare a 9 GB aprox library with expansions with the monstruous +100 GB of BFD3...Yes sample size is not the only thing that matter but BFD3 also have a ton of features to achieve realism combining traditional sample with modeling capabilities that Addictive doesn´t have.... Although Addictive Drums is a GREAT Drum VST, I made my first EP with him and many people ask me - Hey dude, do you record real drums? -

Hey, yeah it's an awesome software, but indeed there is no map for td50. I used td30, and then any missing stuff or stuff id like to adjust I'd tweak via either the learn button, and for hi hat there is a section where you can tweak the open close states. I had to change the curve at which it would trigger the close sound for most sample packs as I found I'd have to put a ridiculous amount of force for the closed state. So changed it to feel like a real hat. But yeah long story short there isn't a full preset. Bfd3 to me sounds better than sd3, but sadly it seems it's not as well supported since inmusic bought the company.

Hey man, thanks a lot I appreciate it... I'll try to make a video this weekend. But in the meantime, try the dynamic curves, against how you play. Also watch for sample packs that are recorded too hot (Sphere pack, for example sounds amazing but triggers terribly).The main ingredient for me was getting the Evil Drums sample pack by Joe Barresi as its extremely detailed. The amount of detail makes it easier to adjust for dynamics. Ive found that one, also the Metallica set, the Jazz Noire set are all incredibly detailed. But anyways yeah let me know what youd like me to cover. I can aim to get a video with some details on that.

@@SimpleAndyRock Thanks for getting back. I didn’t realize that the sample pack could be the issue. I will check out Evil Drums. I figured the mapping in BFD3. But it’s the pads. I have the Roland VAD with TD27. My hi hat is only one pad moving up and down and when I hit the top and also edge, it triggered the same midi key. Although it triggers differently with Addictive drums 2. Haven’t got to the snare yet. I will today. Very confused with pads triggering and dynamics! Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. As I will be racking my brain today trying to figure this out!! Thanks Andres. I will get the Evil Drums!

@@JimAvakian if its mainly the hi hats you want to improve the sabian cymbal pack is sampled beautifully (and im not even a fan of sabian cymbals, but the way they are miked sound fantastic)

Ok now I'm deep diving in today with the TD27 and BDF3 layering and dynamics. hopefully, i can figure it out , and make it sound as good as your kit.

Andres. I have a question for you. I’m having an issue with the ride. When I hit the bell then hit the bow. The bow hit chokes the bell sound. Do you experience this? Ty

It works, but it was really buggy a year or so ago (EDIT: its working flawlessly now when opened inside the DAW, instead of as standalone app). I almost lose my presets when inmusic bought it, and almost lose my mind with that lol. It's pretty stable now though. I still think it's the best vst, and often goes on sale for real cheap. BUT, I for fear it could buggy again am not sure if to recommend it. If you keep backups you are good (that's how I restored my presets)

I just want it practice and have fun with my kit. Im no music producer or something like that. It’s only 99 now, i will give it a shot. In my opinion, it’s the best sounding and it has a lot of Great expansions. My only doubt it’s that i use Windows 11.

@@NachoRF By the way wanted to update ya in that it is not buggy when inside the DAW... its performing flawlessly for me there. It still sounds way way better than SD3 I think. May do some video in the future using both.

I bought it and sounds amazing. So far, no problem with the software. Expansions are Great too. In my opinion BFD3 is so underated. I really like it

I could but I am honestly not doing anything out of the ordinary. I am using the TD30 preset as a start, so with that along its 95% there. What does make a big difference is the library being used. For example the "Black Album" cannot produce a completely closed sound, perhaps due to the ambience, or maybe the sample of such is just missing in the library. What issues are you having?

@@SimpleAndyRock thanks for your answer, my crashes and ride stop like i'm muffuling them just after hitting them but i'm not, so i can't use them properly, i think it's just a setting on the key map but i can't spot the issue...

@OLIVIER FILIPE Movie Scoring aa yes, that's due to an annoying feature in the newer Roland's. But, you CAN disable it. In my roland it's under "midi >control". Its called "cymbal choke shot". Disable that and that should fix it

@@SimpleAndyRock nice! Well hell, would you happen to have any VH hi hat setups for sale now? I have an alesis dm8 hi hat pedal and its crap lol. Its the weak link the kit ive built.

@@FreakishPreacher I have this one for sale actually.. the vh13. But are you on a roland kit? Asking as I don't know how good it would work in a non roland kit, but with the roland brains it's great

I play it at any time with headphones and its fine... However, do keep in mind, I have it on a raised platform with tennis balls as feet. So its suspended in the air. In terms of loudness, the kick would drive downstairs neighbors crazy if you dont suspend it. Its very cheap to build a suspended platform however. Id say about 100 or so. Definitely not more than 200 bucks... Id recommend putting the whole thing on rubber... I can work on a video showing the setup and noise if it helps. In terms of stick noise you should be fine, unless the walls are super thin. But I've had the same setup in various condos with no issues. But just to give you a REFERENCE. If you have a tylenol or advil bottle. Put the cap in your pants pocket. Hit the cap thats in your pocket with the drumsticks. Id say the volume is very very close to that.

I used the td30 key map as a starting point. But tweaked things a bit to get the right feel.
