Haven't tried this one yet but I really like the GG distillery character. Would have been nice if they released an integrity bottlings, like Ralfy likes to say, but at least it's enjoyable and that's the main thing🙂
bimber distillery states on their website that they have 50ppm at the barely level and the in bottle ppm measures 14.4....so using reverse math at those levels (i do know different distilleries will use different methods and get different results) but that Meikle Toir would run around the 240ppm at barley level....
Still have one of those 6.3 in the stash. What an amazing whisky. When we visited Bruichladdich the warehouse tasting had a barrel of the 6.3 that they held back to continue maturation. At that time (2019?) it had got to 10 years. This does support the claim that the release really was 5 year whisky. The 10 year version was quite a bit more mellow.
very very nice and honest review. TBH Springbank 15 year is $160 USD before tax if you can even find it. I'll take the Benromach 15 year as it is so much more readily available now in my area.
For me, I like a Glenlivet 12 or Glenfiddich 12 when I'm having one of those respective nights. If I want to have a Glenlivet night, I'll start on the 12 and move to the 15, 18 or 21 and truly appreciate what that distillery is offering. I can't just start on the 21 year or 25 year and love it the same. It tastes so much better when you climb the ranks.
Hey, thanks for the review. I don’t have the bottle and never will but I just opened up my Highland Park single cast series wild Rose 12 year old exclusively for Alberta 288 bottles at 65.8% which was bottled in 2019 paid just over 200. It is absolutely amazingand I know there’s still at least five on the shelf here in Calgary
Boveda "says not to do this" because they want you to buy a new fucking packet. Fuck profits and fuck companies that do planned obsolescence, even for a product like this that doesn't need it.
Just getting into watching this but wanted to say that I absolutely love Two Brewers! They’re making some phenomenal whiskies up there. I recently had the chance to tour the distillery, and have several of their releases on my shelf. Definitely one of the leaders, in Canadian whisky imo!!! Another great video! Cheers 🥃
I like keeping my options open and having a bunch of different bottles open lol I’ve also only been into whisky for about 1 1/2 years, and even in that short time I’ve seen the price of Mcallan 12 go up lol 😂
I'm late to commenting, but I wanted to comment on fruit flies. Yes, they do get drunk! A lab we collaborated with did experiments to see how different mutations affected fruit flies' alcohol tolerance. They discovered a mutation that made them very susceptible to passing out in the presence of very low ethanol concentrations...and named the strain 'cheapdate'. (Fly biologists have notoriously warped senses of humour, and it was the 1990s; I don't think this would happen now!)
So many good Canadian Rye options out there right now!!! Last Straw and SOV would definitely be two of the top. Hansen Distillery in Edmonton makes fantastic stuff too!
I tried all the solist ranges minus this one and bouron solsit. All of them are 90 plus and great value for money for the punch they deliver. Thanks for the great video .
I definitely would've thought the order to be obvious ... but clearly i was wrong. I would've thought Realms/LS for and 2 then Gretzkys and then the Lot 40. You guys should do a SoV rundown. Whike i don't have the Realms of Rye like you guys, i've git two others really hoping for 3 soon. I would like to see Canadian Rye go up against Ryelaw the Scotch Single grain Rye. Definitely missed a Stillhead Rye in this matchup, i think the Strath pick would compete for top spot.
Great idea for a head to head guys! I don't get the fascination with the Lagavulin 8, I think it's really harsh, possibly a rushed job and just not enjoyable. Similar thoughts go for the Kilkerran as well 😬 Maybe I just don't enjoy 8 year old whiskies 🤷♀ My lineup would be Ardbeg, Talisker, Laga and Kilkerran. Cheers fellas 🥃 Ps. the struggle of just standing infront of your bar trying to decide what to have is so real! Nonetheless, it's a good problem to have 😅
JW Black is supposedly 30-40 Scotches blended. I seldom get the same taste from bottle to bottle. I buy Grand ol Parr now. Taste as good and $10 cheaper per bottle.
A great flight for comparison, guys. Not surprised by the winner in this group, which I often notice getting bumped up into comparisons with its neighbor distilleries' 10 year olds. Cheers!
Some profits from provincial liquor stores have to go back into the healthcare system. Alcohol-related disease costs a fortune to treat in hospital. Sad. We don't need booze far more available in grocery and convenience stores. Alcohol is already a huge issue for many people. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the tasting and several interesting disgressions, gentlemen. Not an official 5 but perhaps a ring-in for when you do later compare those peated 5s?: Kilkerran HP. You should try tasting those 5s all blind, too--but maybe you already intended such? Not a problem/necessary with these 8s. Just a suggestion. If abv's an issue then you could "normalise" the higher ones with a few drops. Cheers!
I have lost the plot. What is the current LCBO sucks ticker score (minus 85?). Here in Scotland I’m consistently embarrassed by the supermarkets - a million permutations of Jura. There was probably a peated 8 year old in there.
