We try Lagavulin 8, Argbeg 8, Kilkerran 8, and Talisker 8 to see which is drinking best for us. The Whisky Rant Podcast Ep 92. SUPPORT THE SHOW: / sipperssocialclub #peated #scotch #whiskytube
A great flight for comparison, guys. Not surprised by the winner in this group, which I often notice getting bumped up into comparisons with its neighbor distilleries' 10 year olds. Cheers!
Great idea for a head to head guys! I don't get the fascination with the Lagavulin 8, I think it's really harsh, possibly a rushed job and just not enjoyable. Similar thoughts go for the Kilkerran as well 😬 Maybe I just don't enjoy 8 year old whiskies 🤷♀ My lineup would be Ardbeg, Talisker, Laga and Kilkerran. Cheers fellas 🥃 Ps. the struggle of just standing infront of your bar trying to decide what to have is so real! Nonetheless, it's a good problem to have 😅
I like keeping my options open and having a bunch of different bottles open lol I’ve also only been into whisky for about 1 1/2 years, and even in that short time I’ve seen the price of Mcallan 12 go up lol 😂
Thanks for the tasting and several interesting disgressions, gentlemen. Not an official 5 but perhaps a ring-in for when you do later compare those peated 5s?: Kilkerran HP. You should try tasting those 5s all blind, too--but maybe you already intended such? Not a problem/necessary with these 8s. Just a suggestion. If abv's an issue then you could "normalise" the higher ones with a few drops. Cheers!
I'm late to commenting, but I wanted to comment on fruit flies. Yes, they do get drunk! A lab we collaborated with did experiments to see how different mutations affected fruit flies' alcohol tolerance. They discovered a mutation that made them very susceptible to passing out in the presence of very low ethanol concentrations...and named the strain 'cheapdate'. (Fly biologists have notoriously warped senses of humour, and it was the 1990s; I don't think this would happen now!)
I think the first committee release was 21 years old and a few had vintages but most of the recent ones have no age statement. And I do think the 8 year old came out before the wee beastie in Europe
Some profits from provincial liquor stores have to go back into the healthcare system. Alcohol-related disease costs a fortune to treat in hospital. Sad. We don't need booze far more available in grocery and convenience stores. Alcohol is already a huge issue for many people. Just my opinion.
I have lost the plot. What is the current LCBO sucks ticker score (minus 85?). Here in Scotland I’m consistently embarrassed by the supermarkets - a million permutations of Jura. There was probably a peated 8 year old in there.
I'll take bottled water...sorry, I'll see my snobby self out. But really...not a fan of these. Haven't hard to ardbeg to be fair. Unless you do an early 8 year KK which were oldly much better than the recent ones.
