What an absolute cracker of a watch. If my shockingly inconsistently inaccurate NH38 Addiiesdive (£165) had not switched me off from autos 2 years ago then I would definitely be buying this watch. If Baltany ever produces a quartz version of this watch then I will be in the queue to buy. People who make quartz Datejusts always get the bezel wrong; this Baltany proves it can be done...
Makes me sick. Why does Baltany not use their obviously ample production capabilities to produce original designs instead of Rolex copies (NOT "Homages")?
This model of a watch is, for me, one of the few I am not willing to wear a homage of. It is so in your face, so recognizable, that I would feel uncomfortable. Why don't they do some minor adjustments like say, drop the fluted bezel, and drop the 2 tone bracelet or style of bracelet? It's beautiful! And Baltany is a very nice sounding brand. They have "gold" in their hands and they don't know it!
I'm glad they have done it but I'm not keen on the two tone or the silver. The have finally listened and brought the logo to the dial, though it seems a little high. I wish I had it on my 1921. Next Baltany lose the printed name and raise it to meet the logo..
To be honest, it looks better finished than my 90s Datejust 😁. OK the movement won't be as accurate, but at least that means a service is £35 for a new movement rather than £500+. I really wish they hadn't copied the engraved rehaut, it looks naff when Rolex do it and I think ruins this watch too. 90s Datejusts also had drilled lugs, why not copy that too?
If you took 6 links out for your 7+ inch wrist i'd be concerned it won't go small enough for slim wrists. I've got a similar Parnis DJ which can't be sized down for my 6.25 wrist. I wish watch reviews mentioned the smallest wrists they fitted as well as the largest.
I purchased mine just under a year ago for $129.00 dollars U.S. Mine has the sub dial hands in white which is very legible. I believe they either realized that the sub dial hands weren’t legible enough or they listened to customers. Phenomenal timepiece
I know they are aesthetically different watches but a comparison between this and the Sugess DJ36 could be interesting! Nice little piece but even tho I grew accustomed to smaller watches I’m not yet at 36 mm. Thanks for the review!
I have an Alpha DJ very similar to this, different minute track though. It does have hollow endlinks and fold clasp though, in keeping with the vintage feel lol. I feel this is a little pricey but I'm sure it feels and looks solid!
I hate that this is a 36mm watch. Yes, it is vintage inspired but standards change over time. If they have anyway added modern touches to this, why not make it 39mm in line with contemporary standards? This silly 36mm looks tiny even on your wrist even if you disagree. And don't bring up that even muhammad ali wore a tiny tank watch - that was then, this is now. And the lack of two tone on the clasp makes it look like an aftermarket addition, not a fan of the clasp. The rest of it seems nice though. Don't mind me, just a bit of late night ranting.
This is very similar to one of my late fathers watches which was actually a Citizen automatic... even the jubilee strap similar....it is a lovely watch to wear...
That’s funny. I saw this watch on Baltany’s website and thought, I hope someone reviews this. It’s literally the only Rolex that I really like, the Datejust. And I’m a sucker for a silver dial. And wait a second, why are you Brits getting screwed on the price? Is that 220 GBP including VAT? Because if not, that’s seems very unfair that the watch is being sold for $220 and 220 GBP. 🤔. Thanks for the great review though.
Just too thick for me at this size. Use a Miyota, get this thing down to around 10mm and we have something. But an NH35 and nearly 12mm for a 36mm watch makes it too tall and bulky. They almost had it.
Very well done, the date just is a true classic and Baltany have done that well. But like any watch that is a too close to a widely recognised iconic watch, eventually someone is bound to ask, "is that a genuine Rolex" to which you'll have to say (quietly most likely), "no it's a copy by Baltany". The reply to that will probably be "oh, so it's a fake then" at which point the explanation will start to sound a little awkward. So as tempted as I am (and I'd love to have a Date Just as part of a collection of classic watches or that Baltany if the original wasn't so well known) it's a no from me.
I think the pressed clasp is a great idea! I still prefer this existing clasp over the Parnis butterfly bracelet. I wonder if there will be a V2 with upgrades to the clasp and maybe better finishing on the bracelet? I sure hope so!
The burgundy dial version looks stunning. If they did the burgundy without the gold, I'd be in !! Just not overly keen on "gold" I'm afraid. Great review, Dan, keep em coming !!
Overall, it looks really great. As someone of a "certain age," I also appreciate 80s/90s era watches. It's a bit odd about the overall length on the 6:00 side of the bracelet. It could be a problem for someone with a really slim wrist? I wouldn't have that problem since my wrist is slightly larger than yours. Overall, I'd definitely consider it.
Nice watch and great review dan .I think out of all the color choice the one you got i.m.o is the one id buy ,its a great holiday watch don't you think? Cheers dan.
i really am attracted here by the dial colour which is very unique tone of greenish with a hint of blue. however, there is nothing amazing or different as this is pure copycat of Aqua terra design . another same weakness of this design is that at40 or 41mm, and not having a dive bezel this dial face will feel and look too big for mid or smaller wrist size men. i.e. a huge simple 3hand watch without sub dial and bezel ,very weird huge plain dial face. the rolex datejust 41 /40mm have the same problem or weakness
@@woonfaseng8737 that's always the thing with an homage watch. You get the easy good looks, but they could go a bit more crazy with colour choices and other things surely!
Agree with you on how will this be found by most? This popped up for me when using my search engine of choice to search for the movement weirdly. I love the look. It's maybe a touch chunky for my wrists sadly otherwise I'd be in... except for the movement. I think. The VK is a great movement but having 2 PDs with it, the 24 hour sub dial is mostly useless and actually I'm a bit bored of seeing it in watches. Surely a Ronda chrono wouldn't have put the prices up too much? But it is a real looker. If this drops to sub-£200 in sales later in the year it'll be hard not to give it a bash.
@@ikarugamoo great suggestions with maybe using a Ronda chronograph instead. Although more expensive, would be a refreshing change! Thanks for watching.
@@watchmewithwatchesbuying 1 off movements there’s nothing in it - using eBay as my source, so not great. But I can’t see it’ll be more than $10-15 per unit. I don’t have a massive issue with the VK and do love a sweeping chrono. Not sure if Ronda have one. Hopefully we’ll see the trend away from VKs everywhere. And, to your exam question again, what could make this stand out & ‘pop’ among a saturated market? Pop a chrono movement in with 3 useful subdials and shout from the rooftops about it. But it is a rather lovely watch still. It’s NOT a deal breaker. I love that internal bezel.
This watch is a banger! The yellow one looks superb. The inner rotating bezel is a nice unique feature for a chrono. Price isn't bad when you compare it to Casio, Citizen, Seiko, Bulova, etc. And Wayforth sounds way better than Mysterious Code! LOL!
@@wngimageanddesign9546 it's so good to see such variety of colour choices! I think some brands are getting better at offering more, but could do better!
Thanks for showing, it does look good and I like the colour options. However, it's too thick probably due to the dual time bezel mechanism and I'm not keen on that movement, the 24 hour dial is almost useless and there is no running seconds, so the time can't be set accurately and it isn't obvious the watch has stopped 👎
I love the bumble bee colouway on this watch. The Voyager reference is also great. It has some great features that give it a sporty feel. I can see me wearing this one. Good review.
