Beat SCAD is a UK charity with three aims: to raise awareness of spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD); support those affected by SCAD, including patients, family and friends; and raise funds for research into the condition.
SCAD is an under-diagnosed heart condition that can’t currently be predicted or prevented. It affects people with few or none of the normal risk factors for heart disease. SCAD can be fatal, cause heart failure, cardiac arrest, require heart bypass surgery, stents or medical management.
SCAD occurs when a bruise or tear develops in one of the coronary arteries resulting in a blockage that prevents normal blood flow. This can result in a heart attack.
SCAD affects mainly women. Around 10% of SCADs occur during or soon after pregnancy. Menopause, extreme stress and exercise and connective tissue disorders have also been associated with SCAD but as yet we don’t know exactly what causes SCAD.
God bless Dr Olumese herbal care on youtube for his positive impact in my life. His product has completely cured me from a chronic coronary artery that I thought was impossible. You’re the best sir
Thank you all! Such enlightening information. I guess I have to find a SCAD clinic. I had Covid (first time) fully vaccinated. Christmas 2023. My heart attack occurred Feb 3,2024.

I have SCAD, Cardiac rehab is an absolute waste of time. SCAD heart attacks do not happen for the same reasons as other heart attacks. Those groups are for people with heart attacks for the usual reasons....high clorestral, blocked artteries, overweight, smokers etc.
On 18-01-2021 I had my scad. Thankfully no invasive treatment was needed and after 1 year I came off all medications. The biggest challenge has been dealing with the psychological effects of the scad. Not knowing why the scad occurred (I have no history of high blood pressure or arteriosclerosis) it was difficult to come to terms with this episode in my life. I had therapy which helped me with my anxiety.
Thanks to both of you for this video. It was very helpful. I am from Denmark, diagnosed with SCAD in 2021 and later with FMD as one out of two patients in Denmark that I know of (facebook SCAD group). It's very stressfull that the diagnoses are so uncommon, but good to know there is more clinical research going on. A question: what should a SCAD and FDM patient aim at in terms of blod pressure?
Goodness. You’re a true survivor and thankfully someone took your symptoms seriously, albeit later than it should have been. I too have had a SCAD. Similar to you, three month’s postpartum and breast feeding at the time. It changes everything. Take care.
There will often be scar tissue in the heart after a SCAD. I did end up going to a cardiac rehab center, now I even take mid-level dance classes after my SCAD.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Migraines, check. Family history of other types of heart attacks, check. A variant for celiac disease was found when I had my DNA analyzed as well.
I've loved watching this very informative. My mam has just had a SCAD 28/12/21, I've got questions around SCAD and FMD is there anyway to get intouch? Thank you so much for this video and bringing awareness 💜
Glad you found it helpful. Sorry your mum has had a SCAD - we hope she's recovering OK. There's lots of information on our website about SCAD and FMD (beatscad.org.uk), and you can email us at contactus@beatscad.org.uk if you have any questions.
@@beatscaduk2141 thank you, my mam came home today. Thank you for the contact details, I've seen other videos and had answers to some of my questions, I'll send an email .... thank you so much for your quick response 💜
Good interesting update .We forget all the staff behind the scenes who are still trying to see why and how this happens to us. As as twice survivor of SCAD I feel very fortunate to have all this information to hand .Thank you all. Well done Erica White
John thank you for sharing Katie's story. It must have been so hard for you to talk about your experience but by raising awareness about Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection you are making a huge contribution to SCAD education and hopefully better understanding of the condition.
