Who else is out there we never heard of? For all we know, there could be some little Chinese man or woman who ripped it harder than her a couple years before her. Every once in a while a new unheard of legend pops up.... this is why history books can't be believed, they tell u what they want, not what it was.
Absolutely brilliant we saw the drifters live at the savvas club in usk South Wales still gives me goosebumps that fantastic voice of the late great Johnny Moore th best we have ever seen also the stylistics that fantastic voice of Russell thomkins Jr imagine these 2 doing a duet the voice of the drifters and the voice of the stylistics
This is serious shredding ...before it was called that ....and before Gambale,Satriani,Malmsteen,Vai,Mancuso,Lane,Van Halen....and all of them have had the good grace to cite Allan as their major influence ❤❤❤❤
If this was not on film no one would believe it had happened. So much greatness on one stage. This needs to be on a disc or LP. If it is, I'd love to buy it. Let Me know.
Booker Ervin was a tremendous tenor, just wailing and ripping things apart in sustained phrases one after the other in that great Texas tenor sound he had. A terribly underrated musician. Thank you for this footage of him with Mingus. It's amazing to see his planted stance as he belted them out.
Thank you so much for piecing together this historic footage and posting it. It's just amazing to see these musicians (Powell in particular) in action, playing the music we have known for many years from the album that was being recorded. And as a bonus we get to see Bud Powell playing "Sweet and Lovely" solo at 22:35 which of course does not appear on "Mingus at Antibes". Wow, thank you so much!!!
I had the great honor of meeting Mr. Hooker in 1983 while he played at my college. Even had a few beers with him backstage after the awesome performance. Wish I had asked for an autograph (selfies werent a thing way back then) :>
Thank you for posting this. A once in a lifetime to see Grant Green perform after listening to him play for many years in records. But to see this giant produce such a singing, soulful, and melodic quality on the guitar is indeed a remarkable treat! And, Larry Ridley, who was one of college professors at Rutgers University is taking care of serious business.
