I'm impressed with everything you do and your mechanical skills, but I'm surprised you don't fit brake boosters
@HunterVanHouten

Thank you so much! Reason I didn't put a brake booster on is that I wanted to feel the brakes a bit better and also not steal vacuum from the engine. If I don't like it, I'll end up changing it.

Hi I just recently became a rustang owner and I was wondering how do you decide what to do first and where did you get the information in the first place
@HunterVanHouten
@HunterVanHouten 2 дня назад
Hey there! I would definitely recommend getting it running first, if it's not already running. Other than that, I did the interior first which in hindsight was probably not the best move. I should have done the exterior plus interior panel patching and metal/bodywork/painting, then put all of the interior back together last. I put the interior together first which has been a huge challenge having to pull parts back out and also trying not to get everything dirty on the inside. I'm going to do things that way on all future projects. Hope that helps!
@GoobGloop
@GoobGloop 2 дня назад
@@HunterVanHouten another quick question, how much have you spent on the mustang so far?
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds 2 дня назад
@@GoobGloop The cost of the mustang was $5,900. Right now you can find one in better shape than mine for the same price or a little cheaper. At the time a year ago that was a better deal. I've probably dropped an additional $3K-4K on top of that in parts and supplies so far and I still have some things left to buy.

@VanHoutenBuilds 5 дней назад
Hey Robby! Yeah everything has been going well. Just been busy with family vacation and travel for work. More videos are on the way real soon! It's getting so close to being finished. Are you replacing the cowl? If so, that seems like an intense process with so many spot welds to drill out and tack back down, but will definitely be totally worth it! I got lucky with mine not being in bad shape.

Gorgeous guitar. Absolutely love the grain and color of the body and pickguard. Very simple and easy tutorial as well, I feel like I could do this fairly easily at least on my guitars that don't have heavy finish on the necks. One question - why only the top load option on the Tele? You can make it string through and still have a bridge that would let you top load if you wanted to. Starting to see more people top load Teles, I wonder if it makes it slightly more slinky?
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds 6 дней назад
Yeah I thought I'd try the top load just to see the difference on this one. Was also great not having to worry about drilling holes through the body and installing ferrules. It does have more of a slinky feel. I actually prefer it to the string through now. And on top of that it take a few seconds less to restring haha. Thanks for the kind words and for checking out my videos!
@GuyNarnarian
@GuyNarnarian 5 дней назад
@@VanHoutenBuilds True, I didn't think about that extra step which is probably not so easy. I'll have to try it on mine, I have a bridge that will let me do either on my Tele. The scale length stays the same, so I would think the only change could be the tension, which seems like it would be less without that sharp angle over the barrel shaped saddles.

I have a custom shop and I’m starting to not like the tacky ness of the neck when I’m playing live from my sweaty hands. I want to do this but it’s a pretty light colored maple neck I don’t know if tobacco brown stain might be too dark for my neck
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds 8 дней назад
Don't use the stain then. Just use the Linseed oil/beeswax mix. It won't really darken it at all. It's more of a natural look.

@@VanHoutenBuilds cool I thought about trying that steel wolf thing but I’m not really that concerned with the looks as much as playability I wound up taking a green scotch bright pad and sanding it a little just to get that glossy tacky feel away. Plays way better now! Thanks for the info.

Thanks! It's actually an early 65'! Door tag says she was born in April of 65. Had a mix of 64 and 65 original parts on it. It also would have said GEN instead of ALT on the instrument panel, b/c it would have come with a generator not an alternator. Mine is ALT.

These videos are awsome and always insipre me to work on my own mustang. btw, did you sand the inside of the roof in any way before spraying on the rustoleum? if not, any visuals on how it's holding up? thanks in advance!! keep up the great work!
@HunterVanHouten
@HunterVanHouten 11 дней назад
Thanks! Yes, I sanded down the whole inside of the roof in order to get a good scuff so the paint would better adhere. I used fiber and nylon wheels from harbor freight, just used them in a power drill. I also focused more heavily on the rusted areas. The rustoleum is holding up really well. The rust reformer is really good stuff after it's had time to properly cure!

Excelente video!!

I'm overhauling one of these currently. It was a $60 late night fast-food parking lot pickup, overpainted by an autobody guy, and it's been my throw around, parts always broken slammer for years. About to add a Guyker tremelo TM85 and roller bridge GM005 setup. Have you run into any tips on drilling for the bushings? I've heard the scale length is 24 5/8" , and to use a 3mm lower offset from the low E anchor to the high E. Other adds: Tesi killswitch, 18k high output double dual-rail hot rail pickup, 500k pots, and stereo output jack.
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds 22 дня назад
I can't remember what the scale length is on these, but measure from the nut to the 12th fret and double it to get the scale length. All of those mods/upgrades should definitely help! When drilling for the bushings on any guitar it's super important to use a drill press so that you get straight holes. Put painters tap down before you drill to make your marks on. Measure a bunch of times to ensure you have the correct points. Add a little bit of dove soap bar to the bushings to make them press in easier. Check out my saved stories on instagram, I have a whole tremelo system installation on my page that should help!

@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds Месяц назад
Yeah they will work over any type of hard finish. You will just have to seal them after applying with layers of poly. Just make sure to use the exact same poly. Also you will need to scuff the surface before applying any finish so that the new finish sticks.

can I use Lemon oil instead of lindseed and beeswax, or olive oil, or anything that can be around the house?

I wouldn't use lemon or olive oil. Those both soak into the wood and will not provide adequate protection to the wood. Lemon is great for conditioning your fretboard, but you'll have to reapply it often.
