I sang this like a month ago, my first serious choir experience in my 22 years. I was really nervous and kinda "tired" of this when I finished singing it with my brothers choir. Today I chose to listen to it completely, such a nice one
The piece is masterful, conveying the sin-burdened heart acknowledging it's own unwotthiness and pleading for mercy, then finding rest and peace in pardon freely granted. The Just has justified the unjust by suffering their just penalty at the hands of the unjust.

The incredibly forceful spirit of an agnostic who seems to better understand than us believers. I asked my Deacon son in law how it could be possible to compose such amazing sacred music. The response was "Grace touches us all regardless of faith or depth of belief."
What a beautiful reminder of when I sang this work at Dartington with a choir of past and present students in 1974. RVW wrote a kind of study for this work in an earlier piece called 'Solent'. That work ends with the same fading chords as the Sea Symphony.

I learned and sang this shortly after the tragic death of my daughter. It is a form of prayer, and I have learned to sing through the tears. Faure's Requiem is simply exquisite. We are singing it at our summer concert in June.
I feel the presence and Reverance and majesty of God particularly during in Sanctus 'Hosana' section about 16:46, then followed by the breathtaking Pie Jesus, absolutely stunning
When I first sang this glorious music I was somehow not affected emotionally to any great extent but this changed in the ensuing years until 18 years ago I experienced a transcendent moment when LUX AETERNA began where a synchronicity between the music & the nature surrounding my listening in my car, gave me a singular spiritual event that will remain with me forever. Parts of this Requiem are movingly used as background in that wonderful film PAPER HOUSE as well.
