I’ve mused for years about how to make allomancy come to life for TV/movie. There was so much description in terms of what the main characters feel and see, etc that you kinda have to capture that somehow. Allomancy is like a character all of its own.

I always took show don't tell to be referring primarily to the larger picture example: king magnifico in Disney's wish ... we are told how evil and nefarious he "is" before he has actually DONE anything even remotely evil!
As someone who lives in the Denver metro area, I agree with Dan. Especially about how Denver isn’t actually close to the mountains. You’re an hour and a half to seven hour drive (depending on traffic) from any interesting mountains in Denver
Wren you're just hitting ALL the right notes here, and this is my 3rd comment on this video. Teleportation is my #1 super power, and it is also specifically because of Jumper. From that day forward, all the little daydreams we all have of that super power we want, and how the nuances of it worked, became about that style of teleportation. This episode was a real treat, thanks guys <3
Wren's favorite quote is also mine! It's in the Way of Kings epilogue, by Wit. What man values most is novelty. Changed my perspective on so many things in life.
Coming from a fanfic angle, there's some real fear of revision. Because people see a LOT of fics that end at the moment a writer announces a "rewrite". This might be largely because people publish their stories chapter by chapter. But it creates a strong incentive from looking at how it works for other people, and makes you not want to risk it.
Why not have the best of both worlds? The cover bringing out an amazing scene, of epic scale? A good writer, communicating with the artist could make such a scene without any spoilers in it.
I was reading wheel of time, then suddenly the characters got a little quirky and more interesting. I really,, really enjoyed it. Then I realized I was reading brandon sanderson. Then I read elantris and haven't stopped.
As big of a fan of Elden Ring and Fromsoft in general that Brando Sando is I’m surprised he didn’t mention it as an example of post apocalyptic storytelling.
It’s a weird thing because part of the reason for the cover is to grab your attention so it’s meant to be judged but…. There have been many books I love that the artwork would’ve not captured my intrigue but I’ve also seen some that piqued my curiosity and led me to one of my favorite series. 😅
I would like to be able to cause annoying technology to shut down at my whim. Speak too loud on your phone in public transport - you going to get a new one. Run your speedboat or water scooter next to the beach - you’re now dead in the water. Sorry not sorry. I always wanted super senses and healing factor: I think they’re a package but if you want to separate them, call it four and three. I would like to be able to see DNA and understand perfectly what it does and how it works. And edit it at will. I go back and forth on Charles Xavier’s telepathy. On the one hand you could be rich and successful and get a private meeting with powerful people and make the world better. But on the other hand it could get very lonely and depressing. And finally, the ultimate superpower, including functional immortality and limitless power. Reload a previous save.
11:03 I interpret verbal hissing as when you are “shouting” through your teeth. Like, you wanna be shouting, but circumstance or manners mean that you’re keeping yourself to normal speech or lower volume.
The force has always been soft magic. It doesn’t have clearly defined rules, even within the original trilogy. I think some fans become frustrated by the fact that a new thing gets introduced into what exactly the force does and it “breaks” canon. It doesn’t. The rules were never in stone in the first place.
So does Brandon. That was what he says, it looks great in the Visual Format, but it becomes a bit confusing to wrap his head around because he keeps trying to figure out how it works. But it is cool regardless.
Brandon’s absolutely right here when he says that the Novel version of Jumper is really good. It also has a sequel called Reflex which is even better in my opinion. I haven’t read the 3rd or 4th books in the Series, Impulse and Exo respectively, yet but it’s on my tbr.
My favorite superpower that I could have was to be able to control probability. Imagine it. I bought a lottery ticket. I make the chances of me winning this lottery to 100%. The chances my mother recovers from cancer to 100%. The possibilities are endless. I think it would be quite interesting to write about too.
Wow I'm very supprised it got rejected, it was really good and kept my attention the whole time. What an ending though. I love stormlight more, but this now holds a very special place in my heart and I wish it had a continuation (just a good ending please!) Now I have all the names of all the characters and places alive in my head, it's so hard to think that this is it.
It's hard to actually recommend reading it if you don't enjoy Grimdark, but the webseries Worm by Wildbow has some very fun power concepts/uses. For example: one of the author's rules for designing powers is that Prof. X style telepathy is not allowed; no mind palace, no direct mind reading/communication. But when you get strong enough, with fine enough control, is there _really_ a difference between Telekinesis and Telepathy?
Also it’s the fact that the stupid studio executives (former gofers and PAs) and the talentless hacks they hire to write their inane shlock just isn’t appealing any more. There are few good writers and even fewer talented executives left in Hollywood.
