super detailed video, liked👍 I'll be starting my first build soon too. Do you think I can use it as a guide? It's also a Quadmula frame, the Djinn 25. It should look similar, just a bit smaller🤔
I just finished building a Djinn F25 it’s a similar size body to the siren F3/F35 so the components should fit… it’s a little tighter in places but you should be ok with smaller motors (1404) and a smaller capacitor which will save you some weight
Are the Arm guards in this video called Arm Booties? For the Discus frame, cause in the 3D Description they look like they are bigger an also cover the motors? Am looking for just Arm bumpers that just pop on? 🙏
These are the booties… they go between the motor and the frame and are bolted on. They do cover the motors which is great for added protection. But I wouldn’t go bigger than maybe a 1404. So far I haven’t broken a motor or arms using them so they’re done really well. But if you want arm bumpers that just slide on you could ask TorontoFPV to design some as he’s pretty accommodating to requests!
Hey I've been silently following your FPV journey for a couple of months now, I've just started myself and went down a similar route to you, but instead of starting 5 inch I bought a Mobula 8 03 then realised it was to heavy to freestyle like I wanted , I then bought analogue stuff 04xpros with the idea of getting a Walksnail VRX in the future and I'm actually loving it even though I've tasted that sweet sweet video feed that DJI has to offer, I think I'm more of a performance junkie, I was just wondering how the Baby Hawk 03 is holding up was the jitter the 03 itself or was it the quad, I'm about to pull the trigger on it but your experience with it is making be hold off, have you tried putting a different 03 on it yet? My goggles 2 are just on the shelf at the moment collecting dust and I want a quad I can fly anywhere but will some decent power, it feels like the Baby hawk 03 is the only real option at the moment for a BNF
I tried so many things with the babyhawk O3 and couldn’t get rid of that jitter so I can’t recommend it… I’ve taken the insides of that and put it into the Quadmula Djinn25 frame to see if that fixes is but I ended up travelling a lot so haven’t had a chance to fly it more yet. But I know what you mean the O3 image is amazing, I’ve been testing whoops out with HDzero and analog but I wish DJI made a whoop sized unit! So I’m guessing you don’t want to try building your own quad? It’s probably the better way to get into the O3 freestyle at the moment but there are other BNF’s that have come on the market more recently. I haven’t flown these but wanted to try them out. The Five33 Tiny trainer now comes in O3 now too and is apparently amazing, the AOS3.5 is recommended a lot if you can find a BNF one. The list opens up more if you to the DJI vista version or O3 in 5inch is popular (I’d recommend the GEPRC Mark5) The other option would be to buy something that doesn’t have an O3 version and install it in there. It’s usually pretty simple. Your whoops thought you could upgrade the motors to a higher kv and then you’ll have that punch
hey what flight time do you get with the 380mah 6s? and at what throttle position does the quad take off? Can you like make a comparison of all quadmula sub 250g's?
I’ve been getting 4-5mins but I definitely need a calibration on either my charger or betaflight as it never reads 4.35 when I start flying. I can do a comparison video, when I’m back home I’ll check the throttle position but I’ve been flying the Siren F5 for a little while so I can’t remember off the top of my head for the F35
@@GarethDix do you think it’s worth it building a 5 inch in switzland? I would have to go get out of the no flying zones around the airports… but I can fly a sub250g here at my house
@Nik_FPV621 it depends on how easy it is to get out of those zones for you. There’s a few near me now that are ok to fly as long as it’s below 120m but I get so much more time flying Sub250g because I can just go locally. The 5inch feeling though is amazing though… nothing quite compares to it but you just need a larger area to fly it
@@GarethDix oh yeah mby Winterthur means something to you and I can pretty easily get there. What compares more to the 5 inch the siren f3 oder the f35. I think I’ll get a 5 inch but I’m curious though because my plan is to build a sub 250g after the 5 inch so I want so know what feels similar and could be flown by my house
@Nik_FPV621 that’s something I plan on testing more when I get back… the 3inch feels more like a 5inch at the moment but I think that’s just because the 3.5inch is 20g lighter… with the additional weight I think it will feel more like a 5inch. If you want to build Sub250g for the 5in feeling then it’s worth going with the 5in first as a reference. If you’re not likely to fly 5in that often you could just go Sub250g and not worry about it ☺️
Nice build, want to build the same. Is there any chance you have a spare quadmula frame that I can buy from you? Quadmula is currently out of stock for all the frames…
I did have a spare F3/F35 frame but started a build on it just before I left for the U.S. Apparently Quadmula are ramping up production again but everything is out of stock because of the earthquakes in Taiwan recently but shouldn’t be long before they’re back in stock
Hey, I'm a 16 year old from Switzerland trying to get into FPV, any advice for me? Planning to buy a 4 inch quad, 4S and later on a fixed-wing FPV (nano goblin or flik by rctestflight)
Take the time in the simulator… you’ll want to get out there as soon as possible but it’s really worth it! When you first start flying try and fly as often as possible to get your confidence up. Fly for fun but focus on one thing each session. It can be frustrating at first with the learning all the technical parts along with the flying but honestly it’s worth all the pain! And do consider a tiny whoop I always thought they were toy like and not serious quads but I’ve been loving flying them around over the winter and they make even the smallest areas feel like a huge playground
The DJI mini is pretty quiet… but I think that’s because it has a lower sound rather than lower volume. It’s possible though, it just depends on how you want it to fly and how you want to fly it… my Pavo pico is way quieter than the DJI mini… when you stand a few meters away you wouldn’t even notice it. My new 5inch build is pretty quiet if you’re flying it gently… but it screams as soon as you hit the throttle
@@GarethDix Do you think that Geprc Mark5 can be more silent than a dji mini if i am flying it slowly? I am willing to sacrifice battery if that helps.
@@EEEEMMMMKKKK a 5inch freestyle is probably not where I would go if quiet is the most important thing. you probably want something lightweight which will allow you to use smaller motors and get bi-bladed props... I'm thinking the Flywoo explorer, crux 3 or maybe even the 2fiddy if you used smaller motors on it (although it wouldn't feel like a 5inch freestyle) I'd test out my Mk5 vs the mini 3 but my friend just sold his last week. Why the need for really quiet though?
@@GarethDix Well not only it bothers me but also people start to look at the direction of the drone. The mini 3 has a pleasant for example air 2s is totaly annoying like bunch of hornets😊
@EEEEMMMMKKKK FPV drones tend to sound very different but they aren’t so quiet. But I would go with the Flywoo explorer or Crux 3 either of those should be quiet if you fly them slower… but the pitch of the sound is quite subjective
I was considering the f3 when it came out but ended up doing an Aos3.5 I run these same motors though on a mamba Aio. The Aos is a squished x as this appears to be also that’s why I wondered. This frame is far more durable I’m sure. I’ve blown mine apart several times. Had a motor fry over concrete and then a prop blow off over the same concrete. I run way bigger battery’s though. Limenier 850 6s. I originally cared about sub 250 but nobody ever sees me when I fly so I don’t care.
The AOS v5 frames have the arms a little further back in the body like a true X does which is probably how they get the props out of view by squashing the x. It does look like the AOS frames use a lot of the weight in the body for frame rather than the arms so hopefully that’s added protection for the expensive bits! I run larger batteries on my other Sub250g quads when I’m out of the city but then I just built a new 5inch which I tend to pick up when I know I’m going to the middle of nowhere
The standoffs shouldn’t be in view unless you’re running a very high camera angle. The props are in view on most x-frames used for freestyle… it’s not a cinematic drone. But you could go with the Djinn F25 which solves both of those because of the frame design. I’m sure they’re working on larger versions of that frame but it would likely end up almost being like a H-frame
Excellent video, brother! Quadmula is back and finally able to get manufacturing started again after the huge earthquakes that were affecting the day to day in Taiwan. We should start seeing products back in stock soon.
Ahh now it all makes sense! I thought people saw how you fly these and there was a mad rush and they sold out! I got to take my Siren F5 build out at the weekend and now I see why you love it!
That’s exactly what I was thinking, however the 550mah is slightly too heavy but I’m trying to find a GNB 530mah as that looks like it’ll be just under 250g just not as available where I am 😩
@chrisbee5481 I have titanium screws in the build already the TPU total (it’s lightweight) comes to about 2g. But maybe I’ll fly it over 250g out of the city and see how it feels
It’s a good question… as I got into the hobby wanting to do cinematic flying so the props were a just weird. But for freestyle the props help with a reference point whilst I’m flying… the O3 in the goggles makes the whole feeling more immersive in comparison the older vista system. But if I wanted to film scenery I would probably use a dead cat style frame or something like the EMAX babyhawk or Djinn25 where the props are out of view
@ackers33 I’ve done a quick hover test of the 25 I built and now want to see how it compares to the 35 just from the hover test though it is sooooooo different
@@GarethDix that's fine too I send you a video on insta of my pusher taking a beating all day long. eventually you gotta try it! I have T700 4mm version coming soon too! will still weigh less than those guys :)
It’s a tough question at the moment as the 3inch weight and smaller props make it feel heavier more like a 5inch but it doesn’t travel as far so it’s better for the smaller areas I fly nearby. I love this already but want to add 20g more to this to see if it helps with the flinging
3.5 will usually add a minute or more extra flight time & as Gareth said the 3 can feel like it has more momentum. On my light racer I like 3.5 but if it was for freestyle it would feel floaty so adding a thumbpro on top actually feels nicer on it. Personally 3.5 is so good cause you get great performance and as much flight time as most 5 inch freestyle rigs all depends what you want.
About 4-5mins but I need to check the battery calibration as it seems lower than what’s actually in there… it’s a little more efficient than the 3inch version but I’ve been pushing this one harder
@diggsit69 I actually don’t know the weights of all of them but I do know someone that does @torontofpv is the maker of the frame and is really quick at responding… he’d probably welcome the suggestion to add the weights to the frame description but it’s probably around the same as the original crux35 frame
It’s weird as there just aren’t as many walksnail BNF’s in this class. The 3 I reviewed here don’t seem to come with it as a BNF but they do have analog and HDZero versions. The walksnail VTX is appearing in a lot of whoops at the moment and some 5inch freestyle so it won’t be long before they’re offered in more 3-3.5inch quads. Lots of people are building Sub250g 3.5inch quads with walksnail though so it’s definitely favoured by builders. I currently have goggles for DJI, analog and HDZero but with the new moonlight kit I might have to get the walksnail module for my HDZero goggles and give it a go.
You’re going to love it… just make sure you’re in a large area as it moves way faster… but blip that throttle and flip it upside down and you’ll get why everyone loves a 5inch
@@GarethDix I wonder what makes a 5" drone to stay so floaty upside down in the air... My Cinebot30 goes down like a stone when I flip it during a flight (yes I drop the throttle to 0), so I have to watch it "more closely". :))))
@big7mac I think it’s partially because the additional mass means the momentum keeps going for longer as you fling it… I’m pretty sure if you just flipped upside down it would fall like the cinebot… but then the larger props might slow it a little
Darwinfpv are doing some really interesting things, glad to hear it’s holding up durability-wise as this would have been my biggest concern. How does it feel to fly?
I knew it,ive built my first quad.It was eachine tyro 69 in analog. My friend told me to build, and ive enjojed this process a lot.But i got bad news, this building thing does not stop actually im buildin more bcs after 10 quads ur faster :)
Honestly my apartment is now full of parts for different builds. I never thought I’d enjoy building as much as I enjoy flying so I can relate! I’ll tell my gf after 10 I’m faster (hopefully she won’t notice I have 15 already)
@@Ps5_ggamer I babied my crux35 because I didn’t want the arm to snap, I’m considering transferring it back into the frame and flying it like I’ve been flying the discus just to see how long it would last
@@GarethDix honestly mate I’ve crashed a fair few times now and it’s still solid, currently waiting on a new motor as it slid off the bin on takeoff and snapped off a motor shaft.. airframe still good
@Ps5_ggamer I’ve crashed really badly with other quads at speed and not had a scratch then I drop a quad as I’m getting it off my bag and break a motor! It’s always the way 😂
Gracias 🙏🏼
Error 25 is the brake signal cut off… I would try unplugging the light control (there’s a simple plug that goes under the main frame of the bike. Next check the brake connection wires… not the brake cables but the electrical connector just make sure they’re in and follow those wires to the bike motor to see if it’s been damaged anywhere. If that’s fine try unplugging those brake connectors and plugging them back in and see if the error still happens. It might be that the cables need replacing but just check it’s not an issue with the signal to the indicators causing a problem first.
I freestyle with my long range frame 4 inch 235g take of weight (analog) drone. Apparently that's not a thing. Also currently building a 5 inch toothpick style frame sub 250g drone.
Ahh awesome I have an analog VTX that I’m going to test out on a build… it’s so much easier to get it Sub250g . I’d love to be good enough to fly a 5inch toothpick but I crash way too much 😂😂
@@GarethDix haha yes,This hobby is really a rabbit hole in how much time and money it consumes. I crash enough but I mostly freestyle in nature, it's in my opinion a lot more forgiving than concrete/buildings.
The Crux35 is also my favourite sub250g freestyle bind and fly. I have broken 2 arms so far. I bought the grinderino frame and when I brake something the next time, I switch all parts to the grinderino. It's heavier but very durable, I'm wondering how it will perform or if it even works! I see you did a grinderino build yourself, are you happy with it? Grüessli us Lozärn
I do love the Grinderino it not only looks amazing but it’s soooo versatile you can pretty much fit anything in it. That said I hope you have one of the newer frames with arms that has the 9x9 and 12x12 mounting for the motors on the arms or the 1404 motors from the Crux35 won’t fit. But if not let me know I have some spare arms. It would be interesting to see how the crux35 internals work with the Grinderino frame as it’s much heavier so it may fly very differently… but if you do it an upload a video let me know!
@@GarethDix Thanks for your answer, yeah I got an updated Frame, so it would be possible I guess. Okay I will do that! Keep up your good work man, I enjoy your Videos!
Haha I've been trying to powerloop my legs (with no success) with my tinywhoop recently. No way am I going to try that with my mark5, don't fancy losing a leg, or worse a ball lol. You properly sent it in that last fly through.
My original plan for the video was to power loop through my legs haha… then I struggled with just getting it through so there will be a follow up video at some point… I’ve been orbiting my legs with a tiny whoop indoors to keep my practice in but as soon as the weather is good I’m giving it a go!
I bought 2 Crux35s and we've broken both frames in 50 flights. Definitely going to order some Discus frames. Good to see you so satisfied with the build. It's a great little quad with a fragile frame.
That’s the thing about the crux35, everytime I crashed I panicked it had broken… after over a month of crashing the discus frame I’m pretty confident that it’s not going to break anytime soon! Let me know how you get on with it
@@GarethDix I see you used the 3mm bottom plate. I was thinking of going thicker. Do you think you would go with the 3mm again? I've still got a few Crux frames to break but I plan on ordering Discus frames soon.
I took the 3mm as it's the recommended size from Toronto FPV (as it saves weight). Given the weight of the quad it probably doesn't need more than 3mm... and it flies very much like a CRUX35. but there is part of me that wants to see what the 4mm is like! I think if you fly bandos it might be worth going thicker, but the 3mm seems to be holding up really well so far...
@@GarethDix Thanks. I broke the Crux so quickly I'm thinking 4mm may be worth the penalty. I'm still analog so I think I can tolerate another 8g or whatever it is.
@@Kevin.L_ if you're flying analog you have loads of weight to play around with, so 4mm and together with the shorter standoffs it would be like a mini tank
I think it depends on what you’re after in a frame… the Grinderino is designed as a basher freestyle frame. If this were a dead cat the O3 camera would have less protection and you would have to carry two sets of arms in case of a breakage. But yes I think although this is O3 compatible it wasn’t made for it… I run a fairly low camera angle but anything higher than maybe 25 degrees and you get the frame standoffs in view pretty severely
Thanks buddy, glad your enjoying it! There is a 20 x 20 mount on the top plate hidden in the inner holes So you can mount the vista to it! If you go naked you can go from 25mm standoffs to 18 :) Also if you ever want to try something different build one as a pusher and toilet tanked on top. I'd say do that to your baby hawk and you'll be blown away. I've done 2 now and it's a whole different flying experience plus O3 with no props! See you around!
I'm pretty sure I looked at that top plate when I was trying to figure out how to mount it and thought... nah it's not quite lined up... and now I'm looking at it with the vista attached... it lines up perfectly haha!
@@GarethDix lol Yes it does I designed a 20 x 20 in there for vtx. With O3 or vista you can set it up int a way that if you had a spare ready with everything but the unit you can make a quick swap and keep going but since the bumpers it's been ultra solid. If you run a naked Gopro I'll send you my discus designed one It's 36grams :)
Re-uploaded with the sound fixed (hopefully). As a correction to what I said in the video - @TorontoFPV just mentioned there is a 20x20 mounting in the top plate hidden in the design, which makes this build EVEN easier... so that 20x20 3D printed adapter and additional screws shouldn't be necessary.
Yes the audio is much better in this one. I was going to say something but I didn't want to hurt your feelings and all you have to do is pin my comment and everyone will see that or you can pin your own whatever you wish. 😜
I have a Smart 35 HD. I replaced the AIO F4 FC after a crash with an AIO F7 FC and it has now a flight time of over 9 minutes with a 4s 850 Mah pack. I love it, the only downside I see is the hardmounted camera. I just finished building an AOS 3.5 V5 O3 with 1604 T-motor and F7 AIO FC/Crossfire receiver which weighs 252 grams with a GNB 4s 650 Mah pack (179 dry weight). Did have to do some weight reduction to achieve this weight. With a softmount camera I must say that I like it even more then the Smart 35. No props in view and fast. I purchased the parts through Aliexpress (Except the O3) and it all cost me a little over €400 total.
I love my 3inch build which comes to around 180g dry weight it’s the closest I have to something Sub250g that feels like a 5inch… I’m building a 3.5inch version at the moment but I was going to use the same T-mount mini stack. What AIO are you using in the AOS?
