Wow! This is my favorite Hummel's Piano Concerto No. 2. This work is a that only a "Master" of both composer and performers can perform. I had no idea that this site had been uploaded until now. What a wonderful performance. I would like to express my utmost respect to the superb pianist Else Biesemans and their accomplished members of the orchestra, who are using period instruments to faithfully reproduce the performance of Hummel's time. Thank you very much, from an unknown composer Nagamine, in Okinawa Japan.
Thanks! It's always a good day when you post a performance! It seems to me that a number of good-sounding Broadwoods and replicas have been turning up in recent years. My sense is that not long ago, the conventional wisdom (based on old instruments that weren't in the best condition) was that early 19th C. Broadwoods were historically important because their action is the ancestor of the familiar modern action, but that the pianos themselves weren't very successful compared to their Viennese-action contemporaries. But instruments like this one are changing that picture a lot. Is the concerto played in an arrangement, or is it just a tiny (one-to-a-part) string orchestra?
I have a question to everyone - how do you understand the last bit of Eiferschutz und Stolz: "Er schnitzt bei mir sich eine Pfeif’ aus Rohr, Und bläst den Kindern schöne Tänz’ und Lieder vor." Is it to say he is so proud that he prefers saying something nice about the hunter than looking sad ? Or - and the piano accompaniment suggests it - that he tries to depict the hunter as someone dangerous, some sort of Erlkönig? Thanks a lot!
Ich durfte diesen großartigen Mann gestern live sehen und ich bin noch immer ganz hin und weg von seiner Interpretation. Dann noch Andras Schiff am Hammerklavier. Ein Hoch auf die Salzburger Festspiele.
Very sad that there're only old people there... I'm a young man and I'm despaired about the future of classical music... Young people now listen to vomit instead.
Why this sprinter tempo? Its one of the most wonderfuł piece of JS Bach if You play it slowly with feelings! CPE Bach has told that his father often played very slowly. He was most impressed of J. Pachelbel. The Organs of that time were not so fast in the technic.
