The steelworkers of Rotherham ,Sheffield and Scunthorpe were, and still are, world class leaders of steel production. Shame on the Government for not backing this vital industry.
the music in this is the absolute worst, most anxiety inducing nightmare soundtrack shit I've ever heard. Jesus Christ. composer had to've a schizophrenic psychopath.
I recently read a book called Electric Arc To The Past, a time travel novel based in the 1970’s in and around Rotherham and the Templeborough Electric Melting Shop. It was fascinating to see the actual melting shop that was so vividly described in the book. Thanks for posting this amazing bit of history. 👍
As a present day Melter on a 150t EAF I really enjoyed this video. The transition from Open Hearth to Electric Arc was very interesting to watch. The control panel with the old switches and MW gauges brought back some memories too.
Great stuff! My grandad worked at Steelo's in the 60s and my brother is an electrical engineer at Liberty who worked on the new VAR furnace at Stocksbridge.
As the class 31 enters the shed by the Signal Box that looks like a fairly complicated set of point work is there a chance of seeing it a little more closely if at all possible thanks in anticipation
Now that's how a layout should sound.... Got to have the clickety-clack over the points and the joins in the track... That class 31 takes me back to my childhood, that's the locomotive my Dad bought me as a Christmas present.... It was a Triang train set called The Freight master if I remember correctly, with a mixed freight and an oval loop of track... Thank you for posting a wonderful video and it would be lovely to see your class 31 going around your marvelous garden layout soon... With the most kindest regards from Nige.
Second time round on the second run was more like, even the tone of the motor is just like the real thing and the speed had me thinking we are on the real thing. going along clickity clack, clickity clack. I think you should have sound effects in your loco, they are big enough so you should be able fix up something. Third run now, did we come out different? oh don't forget your PA system; DING DONG will passengers get ready at platform two, the Train for Blackpool south will arrive in 3 mins. Well I've got to say I enjoyed travelling with Train around Deepdale, hope to join you again soon ✔✔😃😃
I think that I must be odd as I love watching trains crossing over points and the more points the better! Why!! I have absolutely no idea why & the one part of your layout I love the most is the section at the far end of the shed where the trains enter what looks like a complicated section of hand built points! So now you know I’ll disappear before I do thank you for taking the time to build, film, edit & upload great videos 🛠️
I like this. Another great video as always buddy. Not sure why that Class 60 is wheezing but I wonder if a wee drop of oil on the worm gear bearings in the drive towers would cure it? I am thinking of doing my Garden railway as a dead rail radio control layout as then I won't have to worry too much about dirty tracks etc. I will be making plans when I move to the US.
@@BritishRail60062 it's got an ABC power bogie, unfortunately it's always been a bit noisy but to be fair it's quieter than anything RTR just the camera does a good job of picking it up
@@gardenogauge No problem, Thanks for letting me know mate. I am still learning about this wonderful scale. She sure pulls that train like an ox though :).
This is ridiculous and watching it is costing me data. Just superb. The detail is as good as, if not better than can be achieved achieved on indoor layouts. That track work is a pleasure to look at. Fantastic running session, great camera position and real bird sound. Well done and thank you to you all.
My Mum n Dads house @ 16:02 haha. Whata gem this doco is, takes me back to the 70''s. I remember having to sign a waiver on my school trip to the arc furnace saying if i died it wasn't BSC's fault and i stood 30ft from the arc on a gantry, probably the same gantry the guy is filming from and witnessed its scary power up close.
Really enjoyed this video. Thanks for running the Class 60 as well mate. When I make my Garden railway in the future. I am going to make it AI controlled DCC. I just need to work out how to add sensors and things into my model locomotives for this to work.
They don't currently 🙂 it's built from a kit. All the locos are either scratch built or kit built. The only exception are a Dapol Class 08 and my sound fitted locos (Class 20s and 37)
@@AluminumOxide the Stockbridge plant still exists but No.2 shop was closed in 2004. C furnace was scrapped about 8 years later. I worked there at the time. The EAFs Liberty have are at Aldwarke, N and T Furnace.
Fascinating film. Interesting in that this is not new technology. From recent news about Port Talbot I got the impression that they wanted to replace replace the existing furnaces with electric arc as an efficiency and environmental measure. Thank you for sharing
Arc furnaces get so high tech these days, its easy to forget they're not a modern invention. By the way this is a breathtaking documentary, and seeing the Open Hearth furnace is amazing!
@@AluminumOxide absolutely! All these iron making switching over to EAF and talking of it being new technology! Plants producing steel in 1 million+ tons a year and above have been going on for 60 years
