It’s deeply touching that I connect with the sentiment of this ghazal. The idea that love can surpass the boundaries of life itself is a powerful one. Mehdi Hassan’s rendition of “Zindagi Mein To Sabhi Pyar Kiya Karte Hain” captures this beautifully, evoking emotions of both love and loss, but with an undertone of timeless devotion. The thought of loving someone even after death reflects the kind of rare and eternal connection that many aspire to but few truly experience. If this resonates with your personal experience, it suggests that you hold a love that is not just fleeting or temporary but one that remains a part of your being, even in the face of life’s ultimate separation. This kind of love, as expressed in the ghazal, becomes a testament to how deeply someone can be intertwined with another person, where even the end of life doesn’t diminish the bond.
The ghazal “Teri Khushi Se Agar Gham Mein Bhi Shaamil Hoon” reflects a selfless kind of love, where the speaker accepts not only the joy but also the sorrow of their beloved as their own. This willingness to endure pain for the happiness of another speaks to a deep emotional bond and surrender in love. The poet expresses how even in times of distress, the beloved’s contentment is paramount, transcending personal suffering. Mehdi Hassan’s rendition intensifies this sentiment with his emotive singing. His vocal expression adds layers to the meaning-his delicate shifts in tone convey the profound acceptance of both happiness and pain, and the deep commitment that comes with it. The ghazal explores the idea that love is not just about sharing joys but also about enduring sorrows together, and that the beloved’s state deeply influences one’s own emotional experience. This theme of self-sacrifice in love is often seen in classical poetry, where the lover willingly embraces hardship, as long as it’s connected to the beloved’s will or happiness. I find this theme personally resonating with many experiences and emotions in his voice. It’s wonderful that Survji, that t u connect with “Teri Khushi Se Agar Gham Mein Bhi Shaamil Hoon.” The depth of its lyrics and the emotion that Mehdi Hassanji brings out truly speaks to the delicate balance between joy and sorrow in love. The idea that one’s own happiness is tied to another person’s, even in pain, is such a powerful and universal theme.
Mehdi Hassanji’s private mehfils were known for their intimacy and emotional depth, often featuring soulful renditions of ghazals. These small gatherings where I had a couple of opportunities, here in LONDON allowed Mehdi Hassanji to interact closely with the audience, creating a personal connection through his mastery of classical raagas and intricate vocal techniques. His choice of poetry, whether from Ghalib, Mir T Mirji or other notable poets, would often resonate deeply with the audience, allowing for a more reflective and immersive experience. The intimate setting also meant that the nuances of his singing-his subtle variations in tone, pitch, and delivery-highly appreciated. We appreciate this upload immensely. ❤.
I think this ghazal is one of those hidden gems which isn't familiar to many people. I was looking for it online and found only this one version with difficulty. Such a poignant ghazal with an equally poignant and soulful rendition by the maestro! grew up listening to him, but never got tired.
