I’ve been trying to figure this out for the longest time. My name is Emmett Parodi, but it’s my name so it doesn’t stand out to me. Idk what its like for other people
Thank you so much for your video, I have a query. My last EP has been aproved, but, when the released date arrive, will Soundcloud upload automatically the EP on Soundcloud too? or I need to upload by my own? Thank YOu so much
in August 2024 the service ist just a nightmare - monetizing song I am holding all rights ist just impossible - Verifying emails does not work (link within the confirmation email already exspired) - support is non exsistent - the help center is almost useless when it comes to non-standard problems - and even the chat bot gave up and is not responding anymore - I don't think SC is very trustworthy at all - I prefer a professional distributor like DB or RJ - this is just "Kids wanna play with the big boys" - so sad - SC has seen better days
Thanx for video. For first releases im used CDBaby but now I'm start using LANDR with Pro Disctiburtion plan and I thing its verry good and one of the best for now.
Well said! I’m kinda at a crossroads where I’ve rebranded to Tapepusher and now I’ve an album ready so it’s my last chance to stick with TP or rebrand before the album goes out. Which is a better name in your opinion: Tapepusher Living Memory GiraffeWave Mike Entropy
Pretty much. Basically all the stores (iTunes, Spotify, amazon) outsource the actual uploading of music to their platforms to third party companies, some of which are kinda shady. But there are more and more free options popping up, so that's good.
Oh man just wait until you find out there are no more free distrubtors not only that Ditto (my distributor) scammed me by taking 99% of my royalties and now they don't allow me to use my own Isrc codes... Totally Fkd up
Ok I have a problem. I want to release music, but I also am a stage performer. I do theatre, and so my branding on social media is my natural name. Which is a great stage name, McLain Hunter. I’m torn with whether or not, I should create a separate account for my music, which will mean choosing a different artist name, or conjoining my theatre account with my singing one to just be my natural name McLain. I like my middle name too, Elise. I just am torn between whether or not to use my name. And if it has that “It” singer quality to it if you know what I mean?
I really like the name McLain Hunter! It's a great name for a music artist-plus there's no one else with that name making music so that's a huge plus! When people search for you they can actually find you! I'd recommend just keeping everything together in one account under your name. Social media is muuuuch more manageable without separate accounts. It's cool to see a more complete picture of a person on their social media account, and blending theater and music seems natural. Elise is a beautiful middle name. With or without the addition of the your middle name I think your name is fantastic. 💛
Thank you for this video, just the info I needed to hear! I sing and write songs/ play my own music and trying to figure how " to get it out there". I CANT AFFORD TO GET RIPPED OFF. Did you wind up changing to CD baby?.or Distro?
Basically it's what portion of the song will play on iTunes when people preview the track. Also, it's the default start time when people use the track on Instagram or TikTok for a video, but users can still choose where it starts in those platforms if they want.
You can sign up for this along with United Masters or any other music distribution platform, just can't have the same tracks uploaded to the same stores (Spotify, etc) if you already have them uploaded and hosted on another distribution platform. But you can upload new releases on SC for Artists and live your old catalog on United Masters. Or you can use SC for Artists for the extra SC exclusive features
Hey, having trouble and understanding how this process works I have my song approved now. Do I have to wait for the partners to distribute because I keep checking Apple and I don’t see my track up. Do they eventually put it up after waiting for a while or do I have to apply?
It wouldn't matter except the ecosystem, payment demands and monetization requirements that the platforms force upon us. So, I play three different instruments. Currently, my website is just my actual name + the word "Jazz." That isn't unique and won't draw followers on YT (because I'm not famous), but seems necessary as a "one stop." Note that Taylor Swift doesn't have this problem! We, as artists, are selling OURSELVES. All this "branding" stuff is anathema to an artist's soul, but commerce demands it. It's a quandary, for sure! I'm trying to grow my YT channel, and I'm getting more views with a fake name. But do I want that fake name to be "me"? Lady Gaga isn't her real name (Madonna is). Since my fake name has "sax" in it (no, not "Jeff Sax" like a lot of the kids are doing; I'm older), that isn't great for my piano project! And using my real name wont' sell the piano project either. So far, I'm just using the fake sax name in the title, thumbnail and description, not my YT channel name.
Yeah, it's that artist dilemma of self-expression vs playing the marketing/branding/advertising game in order to make a buck. The thing is, art and self-expression is part of what it means to be human, so selling it in any way can feel a bit off. It's cool that some people can make a living off their art, but it's literally not possible for everyone who makes art to do that. And that's ok, because art is more important than money, and I'd rather have the freedom to create than feel bogged down by trying to sell myself. All that to say, use a name that you want to use, even if it isn't the most marketable. And make the music you want to make, even if it's not popular. Keep playing that sax bro! ✌
@@freshlysunlit Thanks, I have a couple of "stage names" and a couple of "You Tube Channel Names" that I like. I guess my issue is deciding on which ONE of them to "market." I may try changing my YT channel name to one of them to see if it bears fruit.
@@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton It's tough. I've been in the same dilemma, had a bunch of different ideas for names over the years. I finally decided to just go with one and not overthink it. I found it deciding on a name was holding me back from actually making music and releasing stuff.
@@freshlysunlit Yeah the problem is the RU-vid channel names I like are not really the artist names that will fly in the stuck-up Jazz world. Is "FreshlySunlit" your stage name for live performances?
@@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton Maybe you can be the one to spice up the stuck-up jazz world! I haven’t done any performing with this name yet, but I would use it for that too!
When i tried this it said I had to complete "earnings > payout" before i could distribute the track, but i already complete the bank and tax information. Am i missing something? or is it some sort of bug? thank you
Hey man. I have been thinking a lot about my artist name. Could you suggest some ideas? My name is Rohan Gaur. I am a multi-genre music producer(love dubstep and futurebass). (earlier I was thinking about ROHANON, no_ROHAN). Suggest more man please. or something different
Who can help me please. I choosed distributing my track through the SoundCloud for Artists, but still I doesn't see my track on Music Platforms! I texted to support, but they still silent! When SoundCloud will upload my tracks on all music platforms which they promise?? I started distributing the track on April 4, today is the 10th, so it's been 6 days. They don't answer me in support. How long to wait can anyone tell me!!!? Thanks!!!
I have a question. I just submitted my first track. Now, how do I proceed to create my Spotify profile? I have a Spotify account, but not an artist account. I don't know if there's any difference.
This video deserves a lot more views. I'm having a hard time finding information about this subject and your video is shedding light on all sides! After talking to a playlist curator, he told me that if a playlist is consistent in genre, it'll do better. That means that his playlist would suffer from adding one of my songs if I'm tagged as "fantasy" and his playlist is all "pagan folk", even if that one song I'd like him to add is in fact pagan folk. He advised me to make a separate project (band/artist name) for whenever I try a new genre. On the other hand, there is my artist name that I've built a small audience for. I want to grow that audience, yet if I release songs in a totally different genre, what will that do to my audience? It's a really hard question to answer whether or not to have multiple artist names. I've changed my name to Bart the Bard, it was Bart Zeal, because it fits 80% of the stuff I make a lot better. But I can't just change my Spotify name, so I'll have to start a new artist account there. With 0 followers. I figure it's best to do that and then put those outlying songs, as far as genre is concerned, on my main Bart Zeal channel. Which then made me wonder if I should make even a bigger distinction, because Ive made sci-fi, cowboy, fantasy, and pagan folk music. Do I need 4 artists names? Will that negatively impact my current single artist name? It's a really tough one!
I use the distribution feature and looks like TikTok has a check mark when distributing a song ... But when I go on TikTok I don't see my song in search. Do we have to make a Music Artist page on TikTok for our songs to show up in search?
You can put songs that are already on Spotify on SoundCloud as well! You just can't add songs to Spotify that have already been added to Spotify through DistroKid or other distribution platforms.
Hey man, thanks for this vid, I signed up for Next Pro and I'm wondering what happen if you want to distribute an Album, and not just a single song. Do you know if you have to upload one by one and then maybe connecting them? I've no idea. Thanks in advance!
Hey! Thanks for watching! For an album you select the multiple track files and it automatically compiles it into an album. I made a video about this back when it was called Repost by SoundCloud, but the method is still the same! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SttTgIZWvwM.html
what about "It looks like you're trying to include additional information in your title. Please add artist names, collaborators, and versions in the correct fields" ? any ideas how to handle this?
They like the title to be only the title, instead of having "(feat. artist)" or whatever after the title. They have a separate spot to add featured artists, producers, songwriters, etc.
What a pity...i had 2 cut my dreadlocks off because i m going bald...infact i went for an HT.....u should have kept them Greetings from Milan Roberto 😊
