As a 30-year resident of Clark County and Vancouver, I agree with StTaylor10 for the most part. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars have been poured into subsidizing commercial developers so that they could build what amounts to an overpriced mall for tourists next to the river which is too expensive for the majority of Clark County residents to patronize. Its not for us. Meanwhile, the rest of the downtown business community (the actual revenue and tax generators), and especially uptown, are treated by the city as if they don't exist. Not to fear though - soon the monstrous 7-story I5 bridge replacement will plunge Clark County into a decade long existence as a giant construction zone and eventually tower over the waterfront, blocking the view of Mt. Hood from the waterfront, bringing Tri-Met's Fentanyl train over from Portland and tearing a swathe of destruction through the city's oldest and not-coincidentally lowest income neighborhoods from the river to Hazel Dell in order to make room for widening of I5. "Progress" is great; ain't it?

The weather in Vancouver WA sucks about 5 months of the year, and is "meh" about 1 more month before or after that 5, depending on the year. Summers are great. If you like sunshine all year, or get depressed in cloudy weather, don't move here. If you like seasons and enjoy rainy weather, it is made for you!

I remember your excitement about the new development at Vancouver Innovation Center, which will double Fisher's Landing population, add a substantial amount of traffic, and greatly increase the student-to-teacher ratio in nearby schools. What I don't recall is your concern about people not voting for such a crazy project. Now, the city is making our streets safer, and you are surprised that there is no public voting involved. I understand - it's different; no money is flowing to realtors from safety initiatives :) You can't see people biking along 34th, perhaps because there is no bike lane? Not many cyclists are found along McGillivray, maybe because they don't want to use a three-foot lane squeezed between traffic and parked cars. Half of McGillivray doesn't even have a sidewalk. Is Vancouver not a bike-oriented city? Yes, and believe it or not, it wasn't a car-oriented city a hundred years ago; at one point, there wasn't even a city here. That doesn't mean we shouldn't move forward.

Hey! Love your videos. Used them a lot when considering what neighborhood to move to in the Couve, with that said, I just wanted to put out there that cars are a very inefficient and unsafe way of traveling around a city. It might seem counterintuitive, but road diets (like McGillivray) that focus on other modes of transport are better at moving more people faster: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CHZwOAIect4.htmlsi=wemVz499NrrNSVBb&t=1017

I also love my bike, for recreation, and use it a lot in the warmer months, but there is no practical way I'll ever be using it to go to work, appointments, etc. Same with my MIL who has four kids (how does one transport a family on a bike 🤔), and my elderly grandparents who live nearby. I love the intent, but the practically is just missing in my opinion. Cheers!

@@LivingInVancouverCamasWash Yeah super helpful! Your one video with a rapid fire review of each neighborhood in the city a while back was really valuable, so thanks for that. I'm not saying everyone should use bikes only, many great cities invest in dedicated lanes for buses and trams, and safe pleasant walking/rolling areas (where cars aren't whizzing by). Ideally, a family of any size would be able to walk/bus/tram within 15-minutes to any destination they need without having to own and maintain an expensive machine to do the majority of their daily tasks/errands. I know a lot of this isn't possible in the current state of the city, which is the reason we need to start now to undo the mistakes of the past city planners and the McGillivray project is a big step in the right direction.

@@LivingInVancouverCamasWashhow do you think people in other countries do all of those things without a car? There are cargo bikes (Urban Arrow, Tern, etc) that allow you to carry multiple children, even up to 5. In most other first world countries, most people are using bikes and transit to do all of the things you just listed. I highly encourage you to try and go to some appointments, get groceries, or visit your family nearby by bike, so you can see how easy it is to do everything by bike instead of driving. The world’s most livable cities are the ones, you guessed it, with little or no cars. Heck, even in America, the most visited and vacationed places are ones with very little or no cars, like our amusement parks and universities. I completely and respectfully disagree with your opinions in the video, as would most people around the world. Cars are the least efficient way around a city and completely ruin the beauty of our cities and landscape by these huge, wide, lanes that are terrible for people and small businesses. I’d highly encourage you to travel around the world more and see how nice cities are that prioritize people over cars. Munich, Utrecht, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Vienna, etc. Could you imagine what Venice would be like with a 4 lane road through it? I’m looking forward to finally bicycling down McGillivray safely with my children once this project is done.

Unfortunately, cars don’t work in cities. As Vancouver grows and becomes more dense, the only thing you’ll accomplish with vehicle lanes is more traffic. A famous Danish urban planner said “You get what you invite. When you invite cars, you get traffic.”. We’ve already seen from other cities that when you build proper, safe, and nice bicycle infrastructure, people use it, and it lessens the traffic from people who have to drive. Our cities shouldn’t be designed for cars, and we’re WAY too overbuilt for them as is. I think you’ll find as we become more walkable, bike-friendly, and transit friendly, you’ll see a lot less traffic on the roads because people naturally choose the alternative since it’s better for their health, their financials, their community, and the environment.

This is a major change. Nothing to gloss over. There is already a bike lane. There is already a sidewalk to walk on. In this case, money doesn't equal a sensible decision. The U. S. has built our infrastructure on cars, while other countries built their infrastructure on bike mobility. Is the public transport here good enough to make this work? To me, I see the way McGillivary utilized, and its more like that of a highway. The lanes are not straightways, but rather, they bend to the left and right, with high traffic. So why not, instead of getting rid of two lanes, get rid of the median strip, and add two lanes, one each way? Maybe move the bicycle lanes over to a parallel street, and get rid of the bike lanes on McGillivary. Put in that white road rash to curb speeding, or paint in visual cues so that people think there may be bumps coming up ahead, or just simply, put in bumps. They've been put elsewhere, excessively. Make sure all trees are cut back or eliminated, so that signs may be easily seen. Make the signs more visible. I have witnessed 2 bicyclists within the past month that did not even stop or look back to see if there was an oncoming car when they got to the end of a block. They had no rear view mirrors, and just kept riding on through. (I almost didn’t want to disclose this because it sounds so convenient for my argument, but really, in the end, these incidences really did happen.) Why were the people who live on those streets not made aware of this decision? They and the community in that area deserve to know what’s going on, and how it will impact their safety, and property. They are the ones who are impacted. So I can’t imagine driving on that street with only 1 lane each way. I ask: 1. Was there a Safety audit/assessment done by a professional company that knows this business, commissioned by the City? Free from bias? 2. Who does this benefit, and why? (I haven’t really heard much on that). 3. How many injuries or fatalities have happened due to the number of lanes that are already there, and what were the circumstances? 4. How is this going to be a benefit during the winter, with snow and the cold? 5. And when it's raining? Slipping and sliding away... 6. Does this change really make it safer for bicyclists? Really? 7. What happens when a bus stops? 8. And what happens when an Ambulance/Fire/Police need to stop on the road, and cars slow down to take the time to have a good gander? 9. Is it going to be easier for the people who live on that street to pull in and out of their driveways, and will this change result in accidents? (I can see someone getting all stressed out, just trying to leave or get home, over trying to get out of the way of the cars behind them, or rushing into the lane just to get onto the road.) 10. How many bicycles vs. cars does this impact? I can easily imagine at the very least, a thousand cars (probably more) going through there every day. Bikes??? In comparison to the cars? I’m really trying to rationalize the decision over the ratio/over the safety. After everything is said and done, the end goal is the safety of all people, right? Is that the goal here? Does this really accomplish that? I really want to see that Safety Assessment before I can really see this as a good idea.

You stated that Vancouver is not a bike centric area, but with the increased developments happening maybe it should be. I for one am happy for the increased bike lane and hope Vancouver will extend and broden bike lanes much more throughout Vancouver. As you sit in your comfortable car and burn up fuel traveling from one property to another i can't really feel that sorry for you, especially since your fuel, transportation, and time is a business expense write off.

Thanks for commenting and watching. You are welcome to have a differing opinion about whether or not Vancouver should become bike centric. To be clear, I too love bike lanes! I probably didn’t take enough time in the video to let people know I love biking (likely more than the average person in Clark County). In the warm months you can catch us on our regular and e-bikes at least 3-5 nights per week. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’ll never be biking to work, appointments, the dentist, and certainly families will still be using cars. More importantly, taking away a driving lane is the issue. Those lanes are heavily used and it’s going to have an unfortunate impact. When the city makes new roads, I’m all for there being a small bike lane like we have on so many of our streets. You make it sound like I’m committing a crime by driving to my job 😂. Maybe re-think your wording a bit and remember I’m a human behind the screen 😜

For me, McGillvray is already lost because of its 25 MPH speed limit. The road was designed for 40 MPH and that's the speed that feels right to travel on it. If the speed limit there remains 25 then I am not going to use that road, even in its present configuration. The change in lane striping there doesn't concern me (although I understand the reasons that others are concerned, which include traffic blockages for emergency vehicles and also long traffic buildups during rush hour) Meanwhile, 34th is still 40 MPH and I fear greatly that the speed limit there will be reduced to 25. If that happens, then that road will become useless to me even though it is in a very convenient place for me to get in and out of my home in The Glen. I simply cannot stand to drive at that low speed on such a capacious roadway. (My view about McGillvray is not the popular one at Save Our Streets. When I hear people speak at their meetings, they always sound like they agree that the speed limit on McGillvray should be 25 MPH and that the only thing Vancouver ought to be doing is enforcing that limit better)

The last home I sold the realtor representing me staged my home and included it as part of her service for no additional charge. She had a company bring living room, bedroom and kitchen furniture for staging. Hanging pictures, mirrors, rugs plants and backyard furniture were all included for no additional charge. This was on a home with a sell price between 750/950k and not a multimill home. If a realtor includes staging at no additional charge for her customers that would also increase their ROI without costing the seller anything additional. Is this what top dollar really gets you in Camas ? It's actually shocking that for "now reduced " 2mil that's all u get. If u look in Issaquah and or Bellevue or other high end places in northern Washington, they offer sooooo much more from A to Z . It's also a much more prestigious area. I think Camas is a WONDERFUL place to live and raise a family, but it for 2mil that's what u get then I am genuinely shocked. FANTASTIC VIDEO and work. I've followed u for a while and if I ever end up buying in Camas, ur definitely my go to 🤝

I can't say I disagree with you :) New construction prices in particular are shocking. There are a lot of other incredible options for $1.5M-$2M in Camas and Vancouver.

I’ve lived in east Vancouver since 1996 and I’ve yet to see a homeless person in my area. I’ve also never been in a traffic backup in east Vancouver.
