One of my reactions is my feelings are hurt so bad because I feel like the noise has been made intentionally to hurt me and in my right mind I know that’s not true but that’s what it feels like that it’s intentional harm

You never get used to it never ever I can’t even eat corn chips, because of the sound of it in my own head skyrockets me to instant rage. Isolation is the only coping mechanism for me I’m 16 years old I’ve not gotten married I don’t live with people I don’t like to be around people

Withholding food is horrible, but I find when it comes to main triggers, miso’s tend to harbor extreme, cemented hostility and demonize them for actions the non miso world would consider innocuous (eating) or minor. If the stepmother had a legitimate reason for locking the fridge (e.g., she was on a diet and withholding food from herself), she’d still be a “monster” and “cruel” in her daughter’s eyes because she’s a main trigger. It’s revealing that there are no actions or words a main trigger can do that will make them less demonic - because of the disorder. Not them, but the disorders distorted perception of them. You’re even accusing her of modeling hitting of her child. Yet she was livid about her son getting hit, and you brushed off the sisters actually hitting him. Do you understand the lunacy of hitting a child for making normal child noises in the non miso world, and how upset a mother would get? This reminds me of the distortions and splitting caused by borderline personality disorder. In that one, mere inattention will cause splitting. Here, its chewing.

Some phobias are also unavoidable. I have misophonia AND Kosmemophobia. I can't leave the house or watch tv or even be around most other people without suffering. It sucks, and no, exposure doesn't help that particular phobia either. And it's not a fear phobia, it's a repulsion phobia. Literally I was not built for this planet. 😅😢😅

As a great-great grandfather and a great-great grand uncle (retired military) with misophonia going on almost 15 years...hearing this story was almost more than I could bear. I am doing my part to raise awareness and - hopefully, one day, help us find an inexpensive and readily available cure for all of us wounded warriors out there, whoever they are, wherever they are, whenever they are. Stay strong, sweetheart. You are one of my inspirations to keep waking up every day.

I've dealt with this disorder for 40something years. Most people haven't even heard of it. When I have brought it to people's attention, whether personal or professional, it is typically dismissed. I hear, 'why don't you wear headphones to dinner?" Or at work, wearing headphones is a safety hazard when the real safety hazard they should be worried about is when I snap from being pushed too far. Most people think the most enjoyable thing you can do is get together with others for meals. For us, the prospect is a nightmare. I really do wish this was recognized as other disorders and would do anything I can to spread the word. There is absolutely nothing bratty about it.

Yeah I wish I could work from home too. I am considering quitting this job because it is just ridiculous. If people work better with certain accommodations, why not just let them use those? I mean, you want them to be productive right?

I read the transcript of her story. Terrible. People do not understand this disorder or how difficult it is to live with it. I didn't even find that it had a name until 2012, though I've suffered with both misophonia and misokenisia since I was about 8 years old. Periodically I would search for it on the internet. Thank you for sharing it and for your work on this issue.

haha I like Hannah Alonzo too :D I was binging that for a while. Anyway, I am struggling at the workplace right now. My collagues trigger me, I can use headphones luckily, but it is inconvenient if you have to collaborate on things. Also, for me it is way too cold in the office. This is not related to misophonia but the coldness stresses me out so much. It would be so much better if I just had my own little space. This would help with my misophonia too. Women get cold more easily and unfortunately I am surrounded by men. I have to wear so much clothing and with summer and the AC on, I am getting very sad. Outside it is too hot but inside I am just miserable because it is too cold.

Wonderful information as far as it goes but the video cuts out in the middle of Dr. Mannino's sentence. Hopefully, the rest of the presentation will also be posted, especially since the presenter had just previewed that he was going to discuss some theoretical treatments and the video does not get to that.

Hello, I took the test and my husband who is not a sufferer :) , too . I have a severe version of it, surprisingly, chewing is really not a bother to me. The most unbearable are noises coming from other apartments, all of them, like crossing the walls they transform to such a frequency, which kill my senses. I feel better being outside then inside. Also chair dragging and cars stationing , ICUs , music which is turned on by others, loud talking by person who speaks to me, the list is endless... I determined exactly when misophonia started. I have certainly never ever paid attention to any sounds before that. Starting with 33 it developed gradually, with major aggravations after flu infections. I hope it has a chemical physical explanation, which can be corrected, otherwise we are doomed. I hope one day Dr. Mercede Erfanian will find a cure for misophonia. I will agree to any tests proposed by Dr. Mercede by skype or any other way. Thank you for your work.
