Larkins got a poor decision here. Given out LBW for 46 when the ball was clearly missing leg stump.

When you watch Mike Gatting bat, particularly when in full flow, there is no telling that he's not in anyway among the highest run getters of the late 20th century, in the league of Border, Miandad, Gooch etc. A big underachiever. A series of misfortunes and personal attitude issues.

This repeat was shown on 28th May 1986 when rain stopped play in a B&H Quarter final match between Essex and Notts. I was sat at Chelmsford at that game hoping for the rain to subside and Essex to win having put Notts into trouble at 39-3 chasing 196. Neither happened and the next day I wasn't there to see Notts win by 3 wickets. Good that you have managed to get these highlights for us to enjoy, thank you.

In a career in first class cricket that lasted 21 years, Stuart Law scored 27,000+ runs at an average of 50+, yet he only ever played 1 test match for Australia. A travesty for a man of his talent!

As a schoolboy, I saw Colin Cowdrey bat a number of times at Canterbury at the tail end of his career. To me, he was a strangely diffident batsman, often playing with excessive caution bowlers he had the strokes to dominate. Every now and then, he permitted himself the luxury of a cover driven boundary that demonstrated this fact. His fielding at slip was obviously less sharp than in his pomp, but there was really nowhere else he could field. His build was 'comfortable', to say the least, and he was not a fast mover. Most people thought he played on too long with nothing to prove, but there was one last glorious hurrah in the ton he scored for Kent against the Aussies in 1975. I saw that innings. He was 42 years old then and he made good runs against an attack that included Lillee, Gilmour and Mallett. The applause he got from the Aussies was generous and well meant. A man not, I think, given to any great show of emotion, his pleasure when he reached his century was evident.

Actually India had this match in their hands.. but they dug their own grave.. well set batsmen like Srikant and Kapil Dev just threw their wickets away. . But the shocking dismissal was of Sunil Gavaskar who was bowled to a ball he shud never have very very surprising

This is back in the day when the BBC had one cameraman on duty seemingly perched many miles from the action! The best thing that ever happened to the TV coverage of cricket in this country was the end of the BBC's monopoly. Cricket coverage has improved dramatically. Even the BBC has been forced to up its game!

Got to know Sachin and Kambli were ball boys for this match, 4 years later they played world cup together. Gavaskar opening instead of Shastri was blunder he would rarely score runs under Kapils captaincy, what was Chandrakant pandit and Kiran More doing together? backup keeper
