Just now been diving into Beads after my system was mothballed for almost three years (house renovation, don’t ask 😮) I also have an original Clouds which I still love so won’t be getting rid of it. Excellent patch examples and interesting sounds, very nice presentation too, as others have mentioned, so thank you for the clear and concise deep dive. Subbed. 👍🏼🙂
Wanted to listen to this again but forgot it was Tim Dillon so I just spent like ten minutes searching for “Alex Jones Modular” “Alex Jones Eurorack” “Alex Jones Morphagene” which was probably rly confusing for RU-vid
Hi there! Thanks for sharing first of all, it really helps. May I ask if when Cascade is waiting for a gate to trig the envelope, you can still here your audio source on the vca out?
Hey man could you tell me what attenuator and inout modules you have i didnt hear you say what they were. I am trying to build a very similar rack for my electric guitar and fx pedals. Thanks man. Im subscribed now awesome stuff
Thanks I appreciate it! I have the intelijel 1u modules for that. Quadrax and the input, output modules as well. I also use a instrument interface input from befaco for my guitar and mics.
Inspiring! I'm on the same journey myself. I'm basing my rig around Instruo Arbhar and Qu-bit Nebulae to create ambient backing soundscapes that I can improvise over.
I assume most people who come here are schlappi psychos like me... this is an excellent example of use and is well assembled and isn't just four on the floor thanks my man you made My day ,seriously great work..
hey thanks for this, a question: when i use shape A1 (attack near or 0 ms) i hear audio clipping no matter what the sound source is. Any clue on why this might be happening? Thanks
Most likely you need to turn down the voltage of the envelope. Try putting it to 5v your vca or whatever your modulating might only take 0-5v. I can’t remember the A1 envelope but if it’s a fast attack that can cause clipping.
okay... great module (obviously). but this is a really great demo as well. & when you drop those drums against that little patch at 6:33... oh, my heavens!! lovely stuff. bravo!!
Hey! Really interesting video, I finally started Modular in hardware a few weeks ago, it’s way more addictive than software I believe. Anyway I found your video very well made with nice ways to play around beads, will definitely try some stuff out there! As well I really loved your beat repeat mode, actually I really enjoyed the sound of the drum beat, what did you use for it? Thanks for your time and the sharing!
The drums were BIA as the kick and Plaits for the snare hi hat stuff. The wompy sounds was a neuro bass sound design I did in ableton and put into my morphagene to sample. That was pretty much it.
Nice! I'm surprised there aren't more videos on Eurorack and guitar, it's the way forward if you ask me, but still seems really niche for some reason. I use software because I can't justify buying rhe real thing, but if I ever went hardware I'd get a similar setup. Maybe an Arbhar for granular and Qubit Databender to FSU. You definitely have the right idea though.
I agree it’s not as practical for guitar players obviously. But in a studio situation if you want unique sounds and effects there is nothing like eurorack. It’s really not a ton more than someone making a pedal board for guitar. Just not practical for live situations.
