I arrived at Camp Kinser in July of 1992. I was 17 years old( one of the youngest marines on the island). They told us to not go to BC street, that was my first stop, if you know, you know 😅
Was there in the summer of 2022, I love watching old videos of the depot and seeing how 24 years ago it still looked the exact same and I can easily recognize everything.
I went through the Depot in Mar-Jun of 1984 (Plt 2026) and my first Duty Station was across the bay at NAS North Island. After my SDI left the Drill Field he was the NCOIC at the PMO, so I visited with him a few times. After the Corps, I transferred to the Army Guard and in 1998 transferred to the Air Force Reserve as a C-5 Loadmaster. On one of a few trips back to North Island, I drove one of my squadron-mates over to the Depot and gave him a tour almost exactly like this!! He saw some recruits getting thrashed in The Pit and he was like "Holy shit!!". Even after all this time (40 years) I can remember all of these bldgs, roads and the layout of the Depot. Semper Fi, Marines!!
I took a military hop from NAS Whidbey Island down to North Island one time. They cancelled the flight back, so I had to buy a ticket and fly out of San Diego or I'd be UA from my unit in Seattle.
I was an MP at MCAS Futenma between 89 and 90. I left there in November of 90, a few months before this video was shot. Raising and lowering colors was one of our daily duties. I wonder if I knew anyone in the video. What a trip to see this on here. Thanks for posting it!
@@Fenkner Yeah! The platoon guide seen in the video, we are still friends and I shared this with him! Yeah that training platoon was no joke, there was a lot of dudes who didn't make it to graduation. One dude got sent back to "day one" with a different platoon. I feel blessed to this day that I made it and earned the title.
@@zacharyfindlay-maddox171 Sorry for the sloppy recording! I went back to watch the part you're talking about and I'm annoyed with how shaky the video is. I guess we didn't have image stabilization back then LOL!
