I did something similar to my sabvoton build. but what i did change was that i nerfed my phase amps a lot rather than battery amps. before i had great acceleration and could go up any hill but my controller was hammering my battery at any speeds. after i lowered phase amps it uses a lot less battery at lower speeds but i still have decent mid t high end power and speed. it moves pretty slowly from a standstill or going uphill at low speeds but then thats countered by pedalling through it. I almost doubled my range on my route to work (its an offroad footpath with about 0.5 miles of road at the end)

I replaced my 500 W TSDZ2 with a 48 V 750 W TSDZ8 more than 2000 km ago. I use it mainly for commuting to work, which is about 15 km each-way with a couple of small (50 m) hills. I LOVE IT! It is much, much smoother and has oodles more power. In fact, I only use it at a power setting of 3 from a possible maximum of 5 to stop it being too fast. The mounting is good, although it did need to be re-tightened a bit at the 1000 mile (~1600 km) service that I gave the bike. I took the throttle off as I was not using it :)

I like simplicity. I did not like cables and display. Is it possible to use TSDZ8 without display, speed cable, throttle etc? This is my plan: I build this system with everything. I choose level of assistance. Then, I remove everything except motor and battery. Since, motor works when i press to pedals. It seems it can work with only battery. Is this possible? Thank you in advance.

I have installed 2 Bafang 750 mid drive kits now and neither of them have EVER made my bike wheelie or go out of control. Recently I detuned both bikes to more gradually deliver power on the onset of peddling. Mostly to lessen the feel of the assist. But, not for the over dramatized wheelie or out of control thing. Not even on setting 9 will they do wheelies. You have the 42 tooth front sprocket? If you do, and this is probably why you are doing wheelies. Most riders should be using 52t front sprockets as the smaller sprockets are for mountain bike set-ups.

Both my bikes stop motor support within a tenth of a second when I stop pedaling. This usually is enought. But on the mid drive bike I installed one on the rear break lever anyway becaus in lower gears the motor might be hard to stop if something goes wrong. On my rear direct drive bike I'm perfectly happy without break switch, but I installed a seperate switch to start recuperation manually if I go down a long hill.

Why not The ToSeven DM02 of 01 (I have only installed a few so far, but I have been impressed)? TS messed up factory programming on their TSDZ2, but there was a time when its lightweight and torque sensing made it ideal for most of my customers (installed a gross of them). My experience with OSF has been disastrous. Bafang requires so much extra wiring, it is heavy and their antique chips make it slow to respond to cut-offs. I don't have any customers willing to invest in The CYC Photon though I hear it has come a long way from the initial problems that scared me away. Would really like to see a comparison between The 8 and both The TwoSeven motors (Bafang and CYC programming right at the display). While I have been impressed, I have only seen reviews by wholesalers.

that's basically the max level of Ampere the motor will "suck" out of the battery. this way I allow the motor to get more of it
@StarsAtNight1
@StarsAtNight1 Месяц назад
@@LukeLorusso Does it limits the peak power? I searched online but get mixed answers.. Have you tried it to confirm this? For example if you would limit it to 6A you would basically get a 53v x 6A, 318Watt peak motor?
@LukeLorusso
@LukeLorusso Месяц назад
I'm not sure I understand your question. It's supposed to be an Ampere limit, in both cases: peak and constant. I raised it because I'm aware that batteries can provide peaks higher than the declared capacity, if necessary, and I don't want the motor to prevent them. But it can be also used to reduce the Watt/h of the battery, as in your example. In this case, again, both peak and constant A will be limited
@StarsAtNight1
@StarsAtNight1 Месяц назад
@@LukeLorusso I'm still doing research because I'm thinking of buying it. From what I have read this motor is a lot more reliable than the tsdz2b. I have seen a review where the tzdz8 has a peak power of 1100W, my goal would be to try to get it more in line with the e-bikes that can be bought on the market (that have a peak power around 600/700/800Watts). So it would not be classified as a Pedelec that requires insurance. This would also result in less wear on the drive train.

Hey joaomarveloso, those are lot of km! 😄 Look, a Tongsheng motor is less energy hungry than a Bafang. But if you need long range, you need high capacity batteries. At the end of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e1F4lZeCRUs.html I mentioned a double battery setup. So, if you go 48V TSDZ8, double 20Ah battery, low level of assistance, you might be able to acheive it... but then your bike will also be way heavier! Thanks for your video. I just installed this motor myself on my old bike and WOW ! It is awesome! The torque sensor is really great and feels natural when pedalling. It's also very quiet, you can barely hear it when riding. Of course if you just want to use throttle or casually ghost pedal, it's not the right choice, but I wanted something that still feels like a normal bike and this is it! As for the TSDZ8 tuning, I have no experience with the TSDZ2, but it feels ok. I have the EKD01 display and level 1 and 2 are useless in my opinion, but starting from level 3, the assist is really great. Throttle is also ok in my opinion. It's true that it's a bit slow to start, but ramps up fairly quickly. Finally, custom firmware seems to be on the way for this motor. No real OSF yet, but the possibility is there, so I guess it's just a matter of time. Tsdz2 rider here, been riding it for couple of thousand km's so far. You're 100% correct on the fatigue part, I even got knee pains during multiple rides because of the power needed for my legs to activate the motor assistance. Turned out my torque sensor was badly calibrated. Installing open source firmware and calibrating the sensor with them transformed the bike for me. Now, I can ride in assist level two without feeling I would be better of on a normal bike, let alone level 3 and 4. Still also not entirely happy with the clutch system, with the motor off it's so much harder to pedal then say a shimano mt200 with torque sensor when turned of. That surely can't be good for efficiency, I should consider trying to replace that clutch to see if it improves.

I have a 750w kit. The big problem with this engine is overheating which prevents the engine from reaching maximum performance. I made some changes following the instructions in some videos and installing aluminum heat sinks. The situation has improved but during the hot season I will never get 100% of the performance. I don't think that installing this firmware will have any advantages as the main problem with the tsdz2 is due to a mechanical design defect.
@MarvinWestmaas
@MarvinWestmaas 4 дня назад
750w stock firmware will behave worse as OSF set for 500w. Also, Tongshen did you dirty, because in reality your 750w is exactly the same as my 48v 500w. Identical, to the last nut and bolt. Something to do with lawsuits as well ;) Also done the cooling mod, alu insert and top plate + thermal interface material where needed. It's not enough, not for 900w at least ( and it's not even high summer ). Seems to be fine with ~750w set as max battery draw and using mainly the second and third power levels. The mechanical issue is the spindel, but if you ride the bike as a 'normal' commuter and you're not overweight, you're fine. I actually ride mtb tracks and in my 4k km I haven't had an issue yet ( I did install the recommended extra bearings, same time I did the cooling mod ). I am a lightweight though, so my spindle thanks me for that I bet. The other design issue is the heat dissipation, but that's mainly because the motor was intended to be 500w not higher. The cooling kit does fix this for a large part, I just didn't want to buy the big external heatsinks because I felt it would give away the thing aint 'stock'. You do need those, the alu inserts only improve heat transfer from the motor to the casing/housing, but the housing itself just lacks any real heat exchange surfaces of it's own. Anyway, kind of wished I waited a month and gotten the tsdz8 instead. Same pricepoint, lots more power and fixes both design issues present in tsdz2.

I have set up the bbs02b on over 20 bikes.. The b at the end of bbso2B signifies the later controller that has PAS set as priority over the throttle.. The old bsbo2 had throttle priority over PAS.. This is why the bbso2b sucks balls.. When the system detects you turning the crack aka pedalling the throttle is disabled... WAIT! You will say no its not, it still works loser.. Yes it still works but only if you twist it to 100% anything less than full throttle is ignored.. Now.. The best way to set this controller up is CUT THE GREY PAS WIRE!! Get rid of the useless PAS,, the pedals are there for your leg power and should not be a system to add power to a bike,,, maybe on a 250w but that's it,, Make your bike throttle only!! You ride your bike like a bike man, then you twist in some VARIABLE POWER with the twist throttle or thumb throttle,,, NOW READ ON... You controller is 25amps right,, you PAS 1-3 or 1-5 or 1-9 depending on your display settings.. Set it to 1-9,, NOW what happens if it's on PAS 1 smart guy?? Then your throttle will have a variable sweep from 0 to 100% of around 3amps.. You can use that to just barely add power say after a long ride you need to get home and you just tap in a bit of power as you go,,, PAS 2 will be like 5amps PAS 3 say 7amps and so on.. You get the idea,, if you put PAS on 9 your throttle will be a variable controller from 0 to 100% of 25amps... You would be surprised on how little power you need to have fun.. In PAS 6 with you pumping the pedals as soon as you add some throttle ya jump to 35km right away.. You can simply click the PAS number up or down depending on your riding conditions and adjust the amps available to the throttle as you ride,... Your bike will feel so much more natural you won't ever want PAS again... Your drive will last way longer and your range will jump by 30%.. I've put over 25,000 km on a bbso2b and pulled it apart and it's still perfect, you just regrease it and maybe a bearing or 2... I could go more into the controller programing but you can research that... Look up "cut the grey PAS wire"

It'll overheat and die on you sooner than you think. Its a great motor once you put some heatsinks on it, outside of this its barely adequate as obviously, a dead motor isn't much use. I'd go as far as to say it's almost fraudulent the state in wihch this motor is sold given the serious heat issues it has. Other niggling issues such as premature clutch failure, and otherwise poor quality components (for example, the pedal axle is known to crack and snap) really let this motor down. Extra modifications such as adding bearings and shims can help, but ultimately what it needs is better made components. For the average ebiker/non-tinkerer, this motor is absolutely not suitable. In spite of this, i love the OSF aspect of it and for that reason alone i'm very fond of my TSDZ2(B). Particularly in an economy/society whereby manufacturers are "software locking" down everything behind paywalls and extortionate fees.

How many issues have you personally had? I'm lucky so far, according to some on the internet. 4000km without any issues. Sure, I did add the additional bearings when I did the cooling modifications. But stock firmware should be fine without the cooling mod, and the spindle issue is very much dependent on the rider and riding being done. It's a weak design, but I'm a lightweight and I can go over jumps and drops without issues ( I actually do take my bike on the single track here ). I seen many pictures of people with broken spindles, most of them are twice my size. Besides, I totally agree with you that tsdz2(b) right now is now what I would recommend to people. Tsdz8 is much better :) I almost feel sad for not having waited till it came in stock when I was looking to buy.
