The 2003 series was probably the first anime I had ever seen, and for a long time I looked for it based off the scattered memories I had of some episodes and the opening theme
Thought I HATE what they did with Kaoru, this is a RIDE. I adore the Yuri melodrama. I wish it went harder on the endings, but it being based off of a 70’s manga, comphet is to be expected. Granted I’m not yet finished, but I know some story beats. Either way, I am hardcore enjoying it!
Love the description... a long road trip with gods credit card and for emotional healing. 😂 I do really enjoy watching this series, but even if it comes off as gay... especially in season 1. Never bothered me. I like the main plot, and wish there was more progression. Especially when you bring in guys like Okoku Sanzo / Dr. Ni. Then of course we have that shock ending in Reload Blast. I'm really happy they went back and did Zeroin, mainly for the Dr. Ni arc. It was hinted at, but it was something that should not be skipped. Loved Burial... you never mentioned Saiyuki Guiden. That was the original 3 part OVA series that went over the gangs past lives. Though Reload Blast did fix one major problem with it... why Goku was targeted and what set off the chain of events for their execution. I hope we get new Saiyuki soon... it's a series I highly enjoy and is a must watch when it's on. 9/10 for me.
I missed Captain Harlock, Niea_7 and Gintama, Cowboy Bebop would've been my No. 1 and the rest is more or less at the right position. Nice job 😀👍 subscribed!
I found Rose of Versailles a week ago. I already finished it and my life is transformed. (I was on break that's why I finished it so fast okay? I just could not stop watching...) this anime was so good, and I am no history wizard but I really enjoyed everything about this anime including the historical aspect of the "historical drama"
There's a really fun, but short GeGeGe no Kitaro game on the PS1 called "Gegege no Kitarou: Gyakushuu! Youma Daikessen". It's a simple run n' gun but with beautiful art and music. It's what led me to this video because I wanted to know more about the series. Thanks!
I never had a chance too read the manga. I adore Genshiken still. It did take me a while too appreciate the new series of more female cast because i was so attached too the main group. Now that i am older i get it, but i could Understand if the creator had difficulties writing people of opposite genders or if it was a certain mental sphere. Just more difficult. Or if they were pushed into certain choices from the publishing. I personally can understand sparks of rage, but i suck at writing writing long term vengeful characters or certain levels of characters holding grudges. Another aspect, is. "Write what you know" which the better written characters could come from inspo of knowing people like that, and certain characters. Knowing people are around with certain likes or traits, but not knowing what they are thinking. Due too not being close or they carry a more internalized narrative. But that is a guess from what i can understand.
Fun fact: the soundtracks for Tiger Mask (1969) and Tiger Mask II (1981) are composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi same person who composed the soundtracks for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z!!!
@@bobsamurai Man, even the brutality of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z reminds me alot of the brutality from Tiger Mask, but not as gratuitously violent.
Tomu Uchida directed a 5 film adaption in the 60s and NHK´s adaption ran for a full year but also grafted another 1/3 to the story after getting through the novel. The Cyborg 009 mangaka made a manga based on the novel and so on. Look at the Japanese Wiki article for the book (with a translator). It´s one of the most adapted books of the 20th century.
Dis anime is the fist ting I’m see of ishinomori. Im see it on a vhs som haw last couple of episodes on swedes so im nostalgic on dis one only luck on my profil pick you understand
You are pretty bigoted by telling that those men are gayish and sexuality dubious all of them are straight as fuck! You view them so much into a westerner white leftist view. Bullshit. Full bullshit.
I would give a 7 out of 10 for this anime, simply because of the unique theme and setting. Almost nowhere else can you find any anime with dinosaurs and cavemen. The same with the medieval knights theme anime WITHOUT fantasy and magic. Only "King Arthur"(1979) is mentioned, again made by Toei
You seem lukewarm on the show but it sounds pretty interesting, it has dinosaurs and the antagonist is a T-Rex, those two things alone sound worthy of my time. It isn't 12 episodes so I won't watch it anytime soon but if I ever get out of my 12 episode anime per week binge, I'll eventually give it a look. Also haven't watched a 70s anime in a while despite liking those I have seen.
Ryu is one of those anime that are children of their time, for better or worse. Like a lot of other Ishinomori's adaptations it takes the basic characters and instead of following the original plot it finds an episodic premise and follow it. You can see that with earlier works like the 1968 Cyborg 009 or Rainbow Sentai Robin. I guess people weren't sure about making series with an internal continuity at the time (with exceptions like Ashita no Joe or Tetsujin 28). The animation is... janky. It's not poor, the animators clearly tried a lot, but rushed the details, like keeping Tirano's shape consistent, making him look like a boneless sausage. Mediocre, not bad, just average, needlessly violent but the early 70's had this phase of edginess that is so amusing.
Love your reviews, anytime i’m curious about a retro anime you’re the first channel I go to! Have you seen Maison Ikkoku? That’s probably my new favorite
It’s really nice that your content is like no other in the anime community, I’m tired of all the modern anime so it’s nice to see someone who covers old anime and does reviews about them, watched astro boy anime’s thanks to your videos
just started watching this recently ...its good im giving it a 10/10 so far bc i like to be xtra generous with ratings and give the benefit of the doubt but its very high quality very well put together. my fav studio production I.G and finally a great eng dub!!
Heres the thing...i think project d starts weak but grows then you have wtf they done with god hand and lan evo arks...lan evo suppose to be place where Takumi is like...Here i was thinking shingo is bad one...But now...My fury will burn asfalt behind us, he burn with it and i give mayby easyest but best win that was seen for project d..but it dosen't matter...Now only thing that counts is to put punk in his own flames of corruption...Insteed we got sucks to be Keskie...but i must drive for project d as best as i can...season 5 is just fanfic...Also this show is better when you not see structure or schemes and focus only on directoring

hahha with gridman universe i remembered more gridman than dynazenon, but was a great movie, altough watched a summary of both anime and read the synopsis of all dynazenon chapters before the movie
I wish more ppl would watch this anime it’s hard to find any fans of it. It feels underground and since it first is old(like me) it sucks to try to recommended it to people. I don’t mind the last season, but I do agree with what you said.. honestly I just wanted more episodes. I’ve actually been in friend groups that watch anime together and stuff like that so it really hit home even the drama stuff really hit home. I just wish it had more. I don’t know if this will ever grow more fans since now it’s even older I can only hope
Thanks for this comparison. I watched the original Star Blazers as a kid and just fell in love with it. I almost joined the U.S. Navy after high school because of this show. Something derailed that for me be nonetheless, this show had a big impact on me. I'm glad to see that it still has a heartbeat.
Maybe someone already said this? Shōji Kawamori was the Chief Director for Plus and is also the creator. Watanabe is my favorite anime director, so I had to double check because I don't generally credit him with Macross Plus.
This was on mainstream TV late at night in the mid 90s in the UK. Apparently it wasn't successful in Japan or the US but it has a cult following here in the UK. It was one of the first animes I ever saw as a teenager. What the British dub did with someone's art is in one way criminal but the hard rock soundtrack and American and British voice actors putting on fake American accents with swearing ever other word makes this so entertaining. When I watched it for the first time in 20 years and laughed multiple times because of the dialogue before even the intro started, I knew I was in for a good time. I wasn't wrong.
Sorry to hear about your brother. Glad to see you back always appreicate your videos. Mazinger Z was enjoyable dated now but I enjoyed it. How about a cutie Honey review eventually?
