A selection of videos showing a few of my projects, hobbies and adventures. I'm a retired industrial maintenance guy with 40 years of working with some VERY talented folks who taught me so much over the years. All this "knowledge" now helps keep me busy in my shop and on the farm.......and out of trouble with my wife!! I hope you enjoy the videos and please leave comments to let me know you dropped by!! Have fun....and always make sure you take time to enjoy the buzz!!! Take care!! Keith Half Tracks and Honey Bees L.L.C.
Hello Keith, I like the insulation set-up of your inner covers. Your method has me thinking about how I can improve my covers. I have a request for you to do a video on the Ecowood treatment that you applied to your hives. I want to try it but I'm getting conflicting advice.
Glad you liked that!! Here's a video I did on the Eco wood..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sX8IMOYvpcU.html I'm very pleased with it!!!!
We've been talking about keeping bees but I'm not sure how to start or where to learn what we need to know to do it correctly. Your videos are proof we need a lot more know how. Any advice on learning how to do this?
Hello!!! Glad you are asking questions BEFORE you start buying stuff. Beekeeping isn't an easy or cheap hobby. A good book to start with is "Beekeeping for Dummies". An easy ready with tons of great info!! Other great RU-vidrs for beginners are Fred Dunn, Kamon Reynolds, David Burns, Bob Binnie, Brucebees and Mike Barry. Also, check and see if there are any local beekeeping organizations in your area you can join. A good mentor is a VERY valuable resource for a beginner!!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!!!!! Thanks for stopping by!!
I wonder if the staff at your grocery store looks at you a little funny when you walk out with all that sugar. I love the channel, it’s informative, but still fun. Thank you for going out of your way to make these. I hope you have a wonderful fall and I hope everyone in your family is OK after that horrible storm Helene. Kathy
Hehe....I always get funny looks with a buggy full of sugar. I guess they think I'm a moonshiner!!! We are fine, but the mountain counties are destroyed. They have a tough road ahead of them. Thanks as always for stopping by!!!
We were lucky and only got about 4 1/2". Further west they got over 20" and one spot measured 30". That much water flowing through hills and valleys was catastrophic.
@@keithspillman awful and catastrophic event. I’m wanting to make a video this week, but it hits me on how we can just go on doing normal with that going on. I’ll be just happy go lucky with my video and bees and something like that is going on with peoples lives and loss. It is awkward for me. I’m picturing folks I met in NC at the conference that are from Asheville, especially a few that wanted me to speak at their meeting in November as I met them face to face, and I wonder if they’re ok. Never did hear at all back from Greg Rodgers. Don’t know if he’s good or not. And the vice president of the club. Is she one of the missing? It’s heartbreaking. I remember being here when we were hit by Katrina and not know who was here and who was missing was horrible. I have friends back home trying to get cleaned up from this storm Helene right now and even they, with all the destruction they’re in, are just heart broken for NC and TN. It’s a horrible thing. I’m happy for folks like yall that were spared, but just heartbroken over what’s unfolding each day.
Same here Mike.....just can't stop thinking about the folks still stranded and waiting for help. I heard Greg Rogers was OK.....but I can't confirm that. I'm getting a lot of photos and video from folks up there helping.....and many many communities are just gone. Electric infrastructure washed away....lines aren't down....they are gone. MANY bridges gone. Help is pouring in from folks all over the place. But FEMA yet to be seen in many places. I too feel guilty for things being "normal".
I was kind of grumpy because I didn't have WiFi and couldn't get Internet. When I did get WiFi after 3 days and saw all the damage here in the Southern Appalachian Mountains I realized how good I have it. These devastated towns are my get-a-way towns and it makes me sad to see them destroyed. Glad you are okey. Looks like your bees are doing orientation flights with new workers taking to the skies. So are some of mine.
I have so many questions about all this. Whats the liquid?, Why are there marbles on the plate too?, Are they your local hive that ur just giving fluid to or a random wild hive?, Are u the king bee that i have been told about all these years?!?!?!
Sugar water.....1 cup sugar and 1 cup water. Marbles are for the bees to land on. They could be my bees or other bees....hard to tell. Not the "king bee"......just a beekeeper having fun!!!! Thanks for stopping by!!!
I am glad to hear that your home had no real damage. And it seems like the bees are also happy about the storm passing. I hope we have no more hurricanes this season.
The bees should be fine, but that spider seems a little aggressive to me, I would introduce him to the afterlife! It’s possible you might wake up with him on your pillow “unalive” that spider!!
Hello Keith, I will keep your family in my prayers. And actually everyone who’s being affected by Helene. Is there anything special you do for the bees during hurricanes?
