Hi
I'm Howzitboy and these are my little video hiking adventures. I mostly do the trails on the east side of the Koolaus since I live by Ala Moana.

I stick to the easier trails since I hike solo! Can't be getting stuck on a ridge somewhere by myself.

Hope you enjoy my videos and feel free to leave comments (good or bad)

Aloha!

Add: Now days there are a lot of hikers getting injured on hikes so before you go hiking, make sure you do you homework first!
Learn how hard the trail is, how long it will take you to complete it, the trails condition (see if there were any landslides blocking the trail, erosion making it too dangerous, clearly marked so you wont get lost etc),
bring along anything you might need for your hike like water, cell phone with full battery, food, first aid, whistle, small mirror, map or gps or gps app for your phone, emergency poncho, emergency blanket..etc,
have a hiking partner! tell family/friends where you are going and when you will return!

Has anyone ever gone to the top of Likeke Falls? I want to try. The falls are just below one of the Pali Hwy tunnels. So the source my guess is 600 feet from the top of the falls. Guessing spring fed.

Thank you so much! Went on this hike once and didn’t go this far at all. I slipped so many times and went airborne a few times. Maybe that’s why I am single cuz that pipe crossing seriously scares the shit out of me cuz I would slip or slide across in embarrassment. Just don’t want to die falling when I want to die having big Os instead. Great footage for reals though. Practically one expert

I live outside the valley, around a mile or so, and I can see these falls, and I can guarente you, if you tried to hike these falls in the rain, it would be impossible. These falls rage during heavy rain, as much as Manoa falls.

Your Documation of the this semi ancient "river-fall run through it " You nailed it . Growing up in Keolu Hills-Kailua 1967-1976...i spent manu an hour ...leaving class via Kailua High....and off we went to either bellows beach or maunawili falls(*)

Hey man, I know it's been 7 years but you don't happen to have any of the raw uncut footage of this exploration do you? I'm making this entire building in Minecraft and the reference material would be a huge help!

Cool place to explore! Looks to be Battery Arizona off Kahe point. They actually had the gun turret from the USS Arizona after it sank. Some good videos on RU-vid of this place from other explorers.

I lived on Fort RUGER three and a half years located on Diamond head avenue when I was 5-8 years old! Will never forget it and thanks for these nice memories! We used to walk out the back door when my dad was home and walk up the mountain to the crater! I have lived a fairly blessed life!😊

It's sad to see the decay of the area. I used to take my daughter to Paradise Park. They had a cool dinosaur exhibit. I was hoping that someone would take over the operations, but unfortunately that was not to be. I also miss the Tree Tops restaurant that was at the top of park. I love your videos...please keep making them. Btw, when I was younger (decades ago), my friend and I used to go hiking. We hiked up one of the streams near the park. We came across several small waterfalls and one (nearly) dry waterfall. We finally got to a waterfall we couldn't climb. On the way back we passed by a stone marked with a cross and some other markings (that I forgotten). My friend later did some research and found that a boy got hit on the head and killed by a falling rock. Maybe you can find that spot on one of your hikes.

You went through Maunawili ditch and tunnel to the back of Waimanalo valley. The water is taken from the Maunawili watershed to supply water to the farmers in Waimanalo. Otherwise it would flow downhill to Kawainui Marsh. I'm pretty sure the tunnel is not open to the public.

I remember climbing up the Kahala side of the hill to see one of the Crater Celebrations/Sunshine Music Festival back in the early 1970s. I forget which year it was. I normally went in through the front entrance, but decided to go that route since I parked on that side. I don't remember that it was too hard. No rock climbing anyway and I am not one to shy away from free soloing those rotten rock mountain peaks.

The music's like the music for a documentary about the dying whales... The hike is awesome. and I've watched the video three times. I just put (J Boog) on Pandora and mute the rest.

If you go to the top of the falls and follow the stream on the right bank, in a short while you might notice a faint side trail going off to the right. Go along this trail just a short way and you will see it climb gradually to the right. Once you start climbing, the trail becomes more defined. Keep going for a few minutes until you come to a junction. To the left is a trail that climbs, with ropes to aid you in the beginning on the steepest part. If you go straight ahead instead, you will be on a contour trail. Both options bring you back to the Aiea Loop Trail. The trail to the right is more rugged. It climbs to a ridge running parallel to the Aiea Loop Trail, with a valley to the right in betweeen. As you follow the ridge, you will see the valley getting narrower and narrower. Eventually you well get to a game control fence, and shortly after a T-intersection, where you will turn right. Contour around a hump and soon see the Aiea Loop Trail junction. Turning right again brings you back to the upper trail head, a little more than 2 miles away. Turning left brings you to the lower camp ground, a little less than 3 miles away. The contour trail straight ahead climbs gradually. It is narrow and partially masked with low vegetation in a few spots, so slow down at these spots and lean to the left into the hillside. If you fall off to the right, you might end up in the hospital. Near the end, the trial turns to the left and begins to climb the hillside at about a 40 degree angle. There might be a rope to assist you, but if not there are lots of trees and shrubs you can grab onto. The trail here is very wide. At the top, turn right and gradually angle down to the Aiea Loop Trail. The upper trail head is less than 15 minutes away. If you are a beginning hiker, do NOT take either of the two options. If at any point you want to admire the scenery, come to a complete stop and hold onto something. Always watch where you are putting your feet.

This is the best Ka'au Creator videos I've seen! Thanks so much. 40 years ago I tried to hike up to Ka'au Crater from Palolo valley, but never made it. Got to the pipes, the trail faded out and never found that first waterfall. Next month I'm going to O'ahu for a hiking vacation and may try to hike over from Awawaloa peak (Mt. Olympus) since it isn't too far.

Just came across this video. I explored this site back in the early to mid-90's. There was very little trash or graffiti, in the site back then. It had other civil defense suitable locations and estimated capacities written on one of the chalkboards, for that side of the island. I remember the top of the very top ladder was a little loose. The view out of the portal gate was a little different back then as well... (I am intentionally being a little vague as to not give away it's location). Your video brought back a lot of memories, mahalo.

Fun rock scrambling up to this peak. Mahalo howzitboy for the hike and for videotaping this hike - I don't even remember hurting my hand that day, haha! My cousin Darrell has since passed away (4/20/2020) but I will always remember him as my hiking buddy as well. It's wonderful to watch this video of him hiking. I miss him and often watch videos and look through photos of our hikes together.

I live right by this trail, thanks for the cool video! Somebody know as Spiderman died up there in 2018 after falling 30 feet. I'm guessing it was that first cliff he was rapelling off of. Hard to find any info on the incident.
