Just a guy who likes to tinker on cars in his spare time. Lately have been focusing on BMW projects of my own, friends vehicles, and some cars to flip.

Is it possible to change the plastic Upper coolant hose that goes into the block with 3 bolts without removing the intake and just taking the DME out? I really want to do this as a precaution before it leaks but don’t want to remove the intake since I’ve never done it and seems a bit complicated. Thanks and great video!
It would be sick to see a first time drift build , however since space is an issue maybe just take the aero kit that you want off it and throw it up for sale. I’m sure someone would pick it up quickly given it’s manual and a slick top !
Yah it’s one of those things where I have room to do it, but not for another project on top of it. So idk. Mbe fix a couple things so it’s sellable and move it on
When I bought my first e46 the red oil light would come on, but after changing the oil it never came back. I don't know if it was just really low or what but I'm glad I never had an issue with it.
I ordered an oil pressure gauge to verify pressure. It sounds fine so don’t think it’s an issue. Also found video from the previous owner and light was on when he was driving too. Have heard that sometimes it’ll stay on after a cluster replacement wasn’t coded properly. It def has had a cluster replacement
Is this kind of failure more common on n52 cars than m54, im starting to get a similar noise on start + glitter in the oil😥. Its ok tho the car was 1500$ and has a 6 speed so its not a total losse.
Rod bearings aren’t really a problem on M54. This car seems to just have been a result of oil change neglect. Just tore down a M54 in my latest video that was run on only 2 quarts of oil. Even with catastrophic engine failure, the rest of the bearings looked fine surprisingly.
Hi Rob. After watching for about a year I finally picked up a 2001 330ci project. Im in Canada, and where I live parts are beyond scarce. Im missing the engine air filter box. The only thing local is from a 2002 325i.The internet says it doesn't fit. Is that correct? Thanks
My guess is it was burning oil ( like all M54s do ) and the owner may have not known this was an issue never checked the oil and simply burnt through most of its oil! I check my oil level once a week on mine
@@dexietyy7922 if they’re not leaking it - they’re drinking it! That’s for sure. Probably a bad ccv or common ring issues. I’m sure that low oil light was on for sometime tho! Owner blew it up and then left it and took his wheels lol. Also found lots of rubber on the rear wheel well openings. Sad such a decent car was treated this way.
"Ridden hard and put away" ...bone dry!😬💀 Thanks for sharing your curiosity with us, Rob! Now I'm trying to resist buying that camera / scope you just added to your toolbox!😅
I have a friend that is selling me one just like that one but clean with 46k miles what do think is a fair offer because as a classic friend hi want me to buy the car but he wants me to make a offer if you can help me with that I will appreciate it thank
Assuming it’s the same spec - 330ci manual - with that low miles could be $8-10k. Maybe more but likely will take some time to get. The low miles is nice but still a 20+ year old car that if hasn’t had done, all rubber bushings likely need replaced. Cooling system still needs replaced.
@@robsweekendgarage thank you for taking your time i know you are a busy young man i have to sold my 328ci a few years ago and now IM ready to get one back 🙏🙏🙏
German Corola? Thats our german Mustang and i live in Germany and own a E46 330d. E46 is the best BMW model ever built and it's not just my opinion, most Germans think the same here. The engines in particular are unique compared to the newer BMW models. Have fun with your 700 Dollars investment :)
I certainly don’t mean any disrespect with that comment. Just that they are ubiquitous like a Corolla. I absolutely love this chassis - currently own 4 and just bought a 5th today!
Nice find, at least in terms of the bodykit you wanted :) I don't think it can have a welded diff if you said it didn't move when in gear with one driveshaft hanging down? If it was welded, and assuming the propshaft is connected and the clutch is still in this world, then you should have rolled right? :)
That bodykit is really a very aquired taste. Not doing your beautifull 330Ci any favours i.m.h.o. But i love this channel and it's great content. Also, it's your 330Ci. Also i can understand your wife's reaction when you dragged your latest price home😅 It's so ruïned, that poor 323. I was really scratching my head. How on earth is it possible to compleatly demolish a car to this poor condition. As a petrolhead, i will never understand. Good Luck on the swap, Cheers from the Netherlands.
There are so many cheap clean e46’s down here it’s crazy. 3 more coming up in auctions soon locally. Should find out what it takes to import one! I bet it’s cheaper than rust repair
Hi. Can you help us with the part numbers? I already changed my filter housing with an aluminium one. All perfect but my coolant still going down from another place.
@@robsweekendgarage it is my source. But after de filter housing change I have not any drop on the floor and not a clue about the possible coolant leakage
That HF trans jack definitely helped with my swap. For me, getting the Starter to line up was the difficult part. I probably took more time trying to do it from the bottom than if I removed the Intake Manifold.😅. Sorry to hear you have a squeak and that you'll be pulling everything out again. Right before you said it I was thinking "Maybe it will go away by itself?" Like you said, "Probably not.". Sigh. We invest so much time, effort and money. Finding a balance of enjoying these cars and working on them to keep them going is brutal sometimes. Hopefully it won't keep you from missing many more Autocross Events. You got this!
The jack was much better than heaving it off my chest lol. Wish it had a crank adjustment for the tilt instead of a locking wing nut. Also there was zero room for the buckle for the strap. But worked great otherwise. Took the car on a two hour ride yesterday and seems the squeal has fixed itself. So who knows - I imagine it’ll still end up being a problem at some point. All in all it’s so great to have it driving again.
Found the primary o2 sensors were reversed causing the majority of the running issues. I did replace the crank sensors with OEM in another video. Been running great since.
I have an 01 325 with the factory nav the mine has a tape deck on top and a little side screen I put a blue bus connector in so I can listen to use my phone I absolutely love it
I think that’s going to be the ticket. I have the Eonon unit in the 330ci but even in the coupe sun glare can be a problem for it. Can’t imagine how bad glare would be in the vert. Plus old school cool!
instead of second guessing- I would recommend you get INPA or ISTA to help with troubleshooting. Check all the fuses related to CAS and Aerial for Comfort Access (if the car comes equip w/that feature). Also make sure your BTS line is not blown as this will shut off power to all function except the flasher and could also be the no-start, no crank issues. Good luck
My INPA is not connecting. Thought I mentioned that in the video. Am trying to sort that out. I was able to scan with another tool I have with BMW specific software and only codes I have are C91E in the JBE I believe and A3B2 A552 in the cluster. There are a few fuses with no power, namely 37,38,39 and a couple other mini fuses that I don’t recall off hand. No fuses were blown. BST is not blown. I have full power to the jump point and two junction spots under the hood. No codes in CAS or FRM. I can even do test functions and see that I’m pressing the window switches, DTC button etc and it’s registering that I’m pressing them but nothing is happening.
Yah I find all kinds of crazy stuff in these. My fav so far is the red vert I bought had a bunch of magnums in the trunk and a tailor receipt for a pair of pants with “fix crotch” on it. My man was packing heat in a different way lol
As a test, take the battery out of the key or take that key far away from the car and see if any behavior changes on the car when trying to turn it on opening the door trying to scan codes etc. If the behavior doesn’t change with the key completely away that tells me it’s not reading the key at all or sensing it at all so either the key module has a problem or that key is not coded correctly. The mechanical locks are correct that doesn’t mean the electrical parts is correct
Newer BMWs are super finicky about battery voltage. try a fully charged battery and a jumper box if you have one. the ground strap from the engine to the chassis is a known issue
