My name is Christie, and I am the owner and creator of this Channel. I have been loom knitting since 2015.
Looming Crafty Fiber Arts concentrates on loom knitting tutorials. However, I do enjoy needle knitting, crochet, spindle spinning, and paper beading. Occasionally, I will also have tutorials or reviews of different fiber arts in the above categories.
***Also, if you are a lefty and need left-handed tutorials, you have come to the right place. ***
Cottage Looms on Etsy used to make them. They don't have a shop on Etsy anymore selling looms. I am not sure if they take special orders or not now. However, if you are looking specifically for a loom with metal pegs, check out Kiss Looms. They aren't cotter pin pegs, but what makes them different is their peg/pin design. You can find them at kisslooms.com, and you can also see how they work by doing a search on youtube.
Hi kk from nz perfect rolling of your beads i will have to find a bead roller that size wasnt into using lot strips until i see you trim the ends ok great tutorial learnt alot thanks very thorough more vids bye from kk nz
Thank you. I am new to this and I cannot get the beginning tight enough. I am right handed but I do everything like this the opposite like I am left handed. I don’t know why 😂😂
You can work this stitch in the round, but it won't look the same. When working, the stitch flat panel rows 3 and 4 have alternating purl stitches because you are working one direction and turning and going in the opposite direction. When this stitch would be worked in the round withrows 3 and 4, the purls would all be on the same peg going in one direction instead of turning with a flat panel. Parentheses representing wrapping 2 pegs as one, Flat panel Example: Row3: ( k, k) p Row 4: ( k, k) p For the in-the-round it would look like this: Row 3: ( k, k ) p Row 4: ( k, k ) p I hope this makes sense.
Can you tell me how wide to cut the strips? I love the beads you make. Your voice is very soothing, and you took the time to explain. I made several different beads years ago and just recently, started again.
Thank you for your kind words. They are much appreciated. These particular strips were ½ inch at the wide end cut down to a pointed taper at the small end. If you wanted them even larger, you could definitely make them 1" at the largest end instead of ½".
I have a ? But can't find a recent video,,when using coconut oil to coat your toothpicks " do you soak them or just rub it on & let dry? Idk 🤷♀️ any recipes on treating your toothpicks or skewers? I hadn't worked with them til now,,much more comfortable,,but didn't know how to treat until now thank you so much! ❤
I really didn't measure how much coconut I used. What I did do was dump a whole box of rounded toothpicks in container with a fitted lid and if I were to guess maybe start with a teaspoon amount of pure coconut oil and coat them all with your hands moving them around and back and forth. I left my cover off for a day or 2 and went back a few times a day to make sure all the tooth picks were good and covered moving them around. If they need more coconut oil, add more, but I didn't need to. If they seem to have too much coconut oil, add more toothpicks. After a couple of days, I put the lid on and left them. Store them in a cool, dry place. I have some I coated years ago and still use them. I haven't had to add any more oil, either. They will eventually absorb all the oil and last for a long time. Don't put them in the refrigerator. If you do the coconut oil, you will go back to solid form again.A shelf where it's cool at room temperature will work just fine.
Also, if you want to add essential oils, you can. If you do decide to add essential oils, I would put your coconut oil in a bowl and add the oil(s) you desire and then mix completely with a spoon before adding to your toothpicks. This way, the oil(s) will be evenly distributed.
I absolutely love your channel! Your tutorials are the best - I’ve watched quite a few. Plus I love Victorian, antique, distressed, vintage so your ideas are right up my alley. Thanks for sharing! I’m also into yarn - crocheter here and I’ve done watercolor, too!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am partial to Victorian and old, weathered, rustic, distressed things, too. I have some more ideas I want to cover in the near future to designing paper beads.
Thank you! Yes, I sure do. I have been planning to get more back into paper arts and paper bead designing, but I have had health battles that have thwarted my plans. I do hope that in the near future, I can get back to the tutorial ideas I want to do. I absolutely love and enjoy paper arts!
Thank you,for your video.I've been making beads for about 20 years.1 of my favorite papers to use is construction paper to do acrylic dips. And copy paper for marbling paper.I go crazy when I see paper.lol
Please help, have followed your video for Figure of 8 cast on and thereafter wrapped yarn as before and tried knitting the same Figure of 8 stitch. Stitches were very loose and does not look as compared to pictures I see on the web. What yarn must one use for loom knit projects, is it one has to use only Chunky yarn. I live in Mumbai, India, very keen to learn looming.
You need to know the gauge of your loom. You can figure this by measuring from center of one peg to center of a peg next to it. This will give you the gauge. If your measurement is ⅝ then you will need to use a #5 Bulky yarn or a #6 Super Bulky yarn. If you're gauge measures ½ then you can use a #4 worsted or a #5 Bulky yarn. If your gauge is ¾ then you need to use a #6 Super Bulky yarn or a #7 Jumbo yarn. So, knowing your loom gauge is very important to match your yarn weight to.
I’ve used church bulletins (order of church service) to make paper beads. The weight of paper is good & the picture on the front makes good coloring of beads.
You can use paper beads to make all kinds of things. Jewelry, bowls, other containers, embellishments for clothing, beaded curtains, ornaments, frames for pictures, covering for more ergonomic pens, pencils and other hand help implements, decorative ends on icord, coasters, I've used paper bead discs to make whorls for my yarn spindles to spin wool, really anything you can imagine.
I used this stitch recently, i only came across your video about 2 weeks ago. I whipped up this beautiful stitch on a extra long scarf for my grandmother and it really is a beautiful stitch to work with. Not complicated and looks amazing!
Hi Christie, I have a Great Pyrenees dog that I’ve been saving the fur I brush out that is pretty. He is 11 yrs old now and I want to do something as a keepsake because I sure love my boy 😢. I have been trying to figure out how to comb and card then spin his fur for a scarf 🧣 maybe. This has been a gift to find you. Keep on crafting ❣️. Ps. I’m trying to join the FB group. Just found it also. 😊
I have seen so many spin their pets fur. It's really neat and seems to make the softest yarn. Many have told me they like to blend it with another wool because sometimes the staple length is quite short. There is another group on Facebook that is dedicated specifically to spinning pet fur. Spinning pet fur is called Chiengora. The group is called Chiengora Handspinners group. I'm not sure if they wheel and spindle spin or one or the other, but it would be worth checking out to I think. If you haven't been admitted to my Facbook group, let me know.
