I worked as a valet at Toyota dealership back in 2015 and after nine months of being there, I was offered a job at the lube tech unfortunately I turned it down because I didn’t feel like I was good enough at it. But I think I want to try again.
Opening up a small to medium shop OF YOUR OWN is the ONLY way being a mechanic makes any sense any longer. The business model is UPSIDE DOWN and makes no financial sense at all. Or be a mobile mechanic. AND - ONLY the young - healthy and strong can do it - and not for long. Meaning somewhere in your 40's - IF you didn't already injure yourself on the job or off the job - your back and body will start DISABLING you from even being able to do THE JOB. AND BY YOUR 50'S - you will be literally unable to do the job at all without extreme daily pain.
I have been an automotive mechanic/tech for 35 years have been there for computer control start until now and it has been tough especially here in California. My advice is to look for a different trade as cars are lasting longer, it's not like we pull cylinder heads off at 75 or 100 thousand miles and as this tech says you so much $ in your tools, I think I'm at $$$$. I have seen more guys come off the SNAP ON truck and say my wife is going to kill me !!!!
Aye just started school today as automotive school i wanna get out school work at a car dealership or oil shop and get good pay i wanna know how to be fast and sharp !
seems the more the population goes up, the less they feel they should pay us because they feel they have that much more many options of people who in general need money and a job.

Congratulations on the achievement dude. I'm old and i just got back into automotive service and repair. I'm a T-TEN drop out. I left to drive trucks. Now im on week 3 as lead tech at a pepboys. I did 3 years at Lexus. Everything is exactly the same. Same BS just what you make of it. TF's 1234yf? Lol not as fun as i remember. Real cut throat and back stabby. Wish you the all best, dude. Speaking on behalf of ppl with children, If you have em working nights = only seeing your fam on weekends which sounds horrible. I dont have kids of my own but I see the struggle of my coworkers who do.
What's up man been following for a while now great work as always...anyways I've done head gaskets on these and engine swaps. my last engine swap I get a P0aa6. I don't have a Toyota scan tool so i don't have the sub code to isolate the HV bleed. It's not in the HV battery because code doesn't trip Key on not ready but trips right away Key on ready in neutral which tells me its in the inverter or ac compressor. I suspect the compressor as a decent amount of water entered the motor connector. resistance (not on hybrid side) climbs to around 4 mega ohms. But AC compressor works fine. I suppose I am writing to you because you make mention in this vid about blowing out the AC compressor in the past. was it the same issue? AC working but p0aa6? next step is resistance checks on the HV side of the compressor. Anyways...any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you

Congrats bro, I was on second shift when I first switched to the heavy truck side for 2.5 years. I actually liked it until having a kid, was fortunate to finally switch to days. Good luck in your new position 🤙🏻
Congratulations! What a coincidence that I left the dealership life to fleet service a few months before you. Best decision ever career wise! I'm glad your advancing and enjoying what you do. I feel fleet service renewed my love for the mechanic field in seeing the fruits of my labor first hand, when I help a driver get up and running. I hope the young guys see there are other sectors in the automotive field to make a living in.
It depends on you. Each person has their own circumstances. Community school is cheap, but you need to take all the prerequisites, unlike trade school, where you learn the job itself. To each his own. Community college, although state-funded, has its own issues, too. They don't have enough instructors because it does not pay well, and no placement assistance for some colleges. So, it is up to you. There's no one-size-fits-all concept in life.
I’m a Toyota expert tech currently working to be a master. I went through TTEN which is a Toyota school. First year as a tech I made 38k, second was 51k third was 56k and this year I’m in route to make 58k-60k hopefully more if I get my last cert and a couple classes
