can anybody please help me understand, am i missing tutorials in this game? i really like the mechanics of this game but i feel like nothing explains it to you. i was stuck in that pirate cave because i did not know equipping items had an affect on the over world (talking about using the flint on the gas) or when using scouting to avoid battles that it won’t work if you don’t have animal training??? like where in game is this information? i think they are cool mechanics but not many games have mechanics like this so how am i suppose to know???
Each of the music levels summon different monsters when you play The Devil’s Aria on the world map. The 4th level one is the easiest one that also gives great exp.
Your video has a lot of great info in it, & as far as I can tell is the only guide of its kind on yt… And with that in mind… I think you REALLY should consider editing it heavily. I say the following constructively bc it was really difficult to sit through: First and foremost: re-record your audio when you don’t have a cold or sinus infection. You are sniffling, coughing, clearing your sinuses all on mic and it’s awful to listen, borderline gross. A re-record would help too bc you are stumbling over your words constantly. It’s extremely difficult to follow what you’re giving guidance about and it kind of undermines your intent to guide/educate Also, when you suggest side quests etc in detail for certain skills, the video just sits at a menu while you’re talking and stumbling and clearing your throat. You should fill those gaps w b-roll of you doing the quest and clear up your audio. I’m sorry this sounds hard, but I think your video could be great and no one else has made something like this.
One more for now! The Imperial Capital’s inn has a meal called shortcake. Eat it and have Ray equip his passive skill that has a chance to not consume a use after battle. This meal gives you +430 percent item drop rate for 5 battles! (More with Ray’s skill) also adds +30 percent to Accessory Factor Effect, which means that +80 percent you get to surprise attack bonus from your Capes of Illusion become over +100 percent. (I think it caps out at +400 percent, not sure though.
Other tips: each character has to make their own best weapon. Midas makes Kavacha Plate (best armor for Ray and some others) and Nina makes the Aegis Guard. (best armor for all others) If you’ve done this farm, fol will not be an issue. You can use your retries, the 180,000 fol needed is nothing at that point. The characters will learn talents while creating. It is said that it is only possible to make the best stuff only once a character has obtained 4 talents. This is not true, I created Ray’s when he only has 3 talents, but I couldn’t get JJ’s weapon until he had his 4th talent. Seems to just be FAR more likely to create them if they have the talents, so you should do it. To obtain the talents, use the corresponding item creation type over and over until you get it. Google character talents and you can see which ones they get. The other enemies in the Delve drop good stuff. The bats with the frog spawn drop Capes of Illusion, which give you +80 percent surprise attack bonus. This is useful for experience and fol, as I was getting 5 times to both for having 6 equipped to my other characters besides Ray. To make the fights go quicker, I took all my characters attacks off other than Ray, and had them all buff with items instead and gave them resurrection items as well. For Ray, I think Boulder Crush is just his best attack, and I spam it. With his best weapon and that attack leveled all the way up, you’ll be one-shotting surprised scumbags, like you see in the video.
Shortened explanation: Use alchemy to aquire two Philosophers stones. Make Raymond’s best weapon and armor. Go to Den’mohr’s Delve and fight monsters until the hardest ones pop up. Save at the cliff and reload until you get the Scumbag mob to spawn. Check if there’s a gold one, if not reload.
Isn't replication an evil specialty much like pickpocketing, which will reduce character affinity and make it harder to acquire some nice things via PAs and good endings for everyone?
The only two that reduce affinity are Contraband and Pickpocket. Luckily they made it logical in the sense that if your characters see you do bad or illegal things, they start to dislike you.
So, Does anyone know if there's a way to auto scroll through the text boxes in the cutscenes? I remember doing so on the Switch, but don't know if there's a way on the PS5.
I go over the character specific talents at 10:43. As far as missable items, I’m not sure. I imagine there’s a ton considering it’s an old jrpg and there are missable characters.
@@Yusei255 Oh yeah, you can just copy what I did. Just make some saves and mess around in the creation. It'll come to you and you'll see what characters will learn what. Since the specialties take little time to perform you can get a lot of data super quick. And I just really like Welch, I'm not even sure who the best characters are in the game.
@@jishna5090 yeah I also Like welch, mainly for the voice since it's the same VA that voices Neptune from the hyperdimension neptunia game's And since welch is on basically every SO game.
No. There are like 4 or so of the scumbags that have a chance to be metal on reload and you'll get one or two (I've gotten four) quite often when you load.
But most of the damage you'll do is 1 per hit and spells are useless even on earth mode at 5000+ Str and I believe this game LACKS the Scumbag Slayer weapon to KILL them in 1 hit.
@@veghesther3204 by the time you get to them there will be a story point right outside the Capitol. If you've done that then you have the ability to unlock synthesis through Welch and start upgrading your ores. You can make weapons using those ores that will allow you to easily one-shot them.
@@veghesther3204 I'm only level 49 with Elena, and using her starter weapon and I kill them in about 2 hits on average using her attack "Assassin" and some Cyuss accessories
Are the skills that give you more stats or skill points per level also retro active or are you screwed if you waited for a while to start putting into those skills? I got cyuss, Ilia, and Roddick to lvl 45 at Portsmith simply because I just enjoy grinding while listening to podcasts and havent messed with the skill unlocks yet except for maxing out determination. Am I now kinda screwed on the extra SP with enlightenment?
Technically yes, if you don't get enlightenment maxxed out asap you miss out on that sp BUT once you do max it out, you will quickly have more sp than you could possibly use by level 100ish.
Unfortunately if you've maxed music out with everyone I believe you're stuck with the hardest boss in the game when playing the Devil's Aria :/ unless you have more characters to obtain that can learn music.

The divine force was great! I haven’t beaten it but I’ve played quite a bit and enjoyed it a lot before getting distracted from other games but i want to come back to it asap. I played this game for snes way back in the day around the time it first got patched, but i was so young and it was so long ago I don’t remember anything really. So im happy to play first departure which I just purchased. Are you excited for the second story remake!? I can’t wait!!!!

That’s awesome I didn’t even realize that the Star ocean 2 remake was coming to ps5 I thought it was just the switch. Good call on getting a ps5, I need to do that myself I’m missing out too much! I have an Xbox X but I haven’t been able to play ff16 and I haven’t been able to forgive myself for missing ff7 remake- now with part 2 of the ff7 remake on the way I really need to get one ! Sorry for the long comment. But I also have another question- do you remember where to get determination? I haven’t gotten far yet in this one I’ve only just went back in time and delivered the statue to the item shop. Will I simply find it by progressing naturally?

And you'll have to buy it at a shop with the 3 dudes. It's been a while. I searched and it seems to be at these places: Portmith, Autanim, Tatroi, Astral City, Tropp, Safe House

Wow, this guide is excellent and I appreciate you so much. I know this video is old, but I have a question that I can't find on the internet and I feel like this is the most knowledgeable video on the web: How does talent blooming work and when does it happen in the game? Is it worth reloading the game about for the SP bonuses? I'm very new to Star Ocean, read a tip about this on the fan Wiki, and can't find a single other piece of information about this. Again, even if you don't have an answer, thank you so much for all the great info!
Thank you so much! That means a lot, really. By talent blooming do you mean when the talents start branching and creating specialties? If so, when it starts would depend on how early you got determination maxed. Assuming you did it asap, if I had to guess, I'd say around level 50 is when you'd be able to have all the specialties you need to do what was described in the video. Don't quote me on that though. The SP bonuses aren't really necessary unless you REALLY want to optimize your early game. If you maxed out determination really early on you should be able to max out every skill in the game by level 100, which can be grinded to in a few hours once you get to level 40 or so, around the time you get the Walloon Sword. The max level in the game is 255, so don't be worried about missing out on anything. :)
I'm slowly giving up on this game. I can't fight the monsters the 2nd time you go to the purgatorium. my battle group are all in level 60's. I tried to learn about crafting better armor and weapons but these forums and websites either don't have enough information or I can't find any results at all!
Rhythm Sense = keep composing until you learn a song then perform it until you obtain rhythm sense. Took Millie a few performances to get it but I had another character learn it on first performance
When the guy explaining can't make a sentence without stopping in the middle, forgetting his words, getting lost in the menu, adjusting his throat, saying uuhhh. Way to make your video twice longer than it should. So unorganized and 30mins explaining video without timestamps, if I want to re-listen to a point I have to scroll through this whole mess of a video.
I was going to type out a long explanation about how it was spur of the moment and uncut, but I think whiney bitches like yourself are better handled with one specific sentence, that sentence being, "I don't give a fuck what you think, and neither does anyone else."

I'm glad you got some use! When I made the video I decided I was just going to talk and time got away from me. I understand it wasn't as concise as it could've been, but it was spur of the moment and I just wanted to get the hard to find info out there.
I know this is a pretty old video, so there's not much use in commenting at this point. This video does cover how to break the game with IC in very broad strokes, and will definitely help players, but it's missing a couple key things. The biggest thing missing is a mention of the Violin song "Hail the Goddess", which increases IC success rate while it's playing (Super Specialty Orchestra also does this, and makes it easier for characters to learn Talents as well). Determination is just as valuable as you say, but I have never found the Training or Comprehension Specialties to be worth the massive initial SP investment. Learning Talents on a character gives them 100 SP each, and leveling with the Trumpet is still extremely potent when unboosted. There's also a secret about Rainbow Diamonds to save a ton of SP: if you wear them, they temporarily increase your Specialty Levels by 1, letting any character act as if they have Level 10 abilities when they've only spent points to reach Level 8. This particular thing is not well known, even by people who have played SOFD/SE many times so I can't fault it for not being mentioned. Startup money can be handled by the skill Purity, it flat out gives you Fol when you put points into it on a character (totaling 100,000 at Level 10). Once you get set up to make Philosopher's Stones though, money is just irrelevant, as the guide does show. Lastly, it was a bit strange that Customize was only mentioned in passing, even random usage of it can produce weapons much more powerful than those you can buy in shops. Show those Trumpet enemies who's boss.
Thanks for the info! I'll pin that for anyone in the future who wants to delve more into the game. I made that video with the limited knowledge I had at the time, what you see from the gameplay was the basic extent of my knowledge and I wanted to just talk and clear up some confusing things I had encountered in my initial research.
All This would have been nice to know before I started playing this game and reached near end game because the game doesn't explain anything and hard punishes you in alot of way. Not going to lie this entry into SO I actually hate for many of reasons, but at least the other entries are better so eh. Good guide man, thumbs up. I wish I found this video a lot earlier.
Thanks man. I agree, if it weren't for my love of the Star Ocean series I'd probably hate the game as well. It's overly complicated for no reason. But it allows you to go on a power trip with some effort and research, so that was fun at least.
The Second Story/Second Evolution is by far my favorite. First Departure is my second since it's visually and mechanically the same. The third one was ruined for me once it was revealed to all be a virtual reality. The story and cast were just lame. I havent finished any of the others. I've always given them a try but they always seem to have a very lackluster cast and sub-par stories.
The consensus is that everyone likes Second story and is ranked number one on everyone's SO list. Play integrity and faithlessness and compare it to SO3. SO3's story, characters, game play, levels of content, and replayablity are far superior of integrity and faithlessness. I will say integrity and faithlessness's combat is slightly better (or just updated SO3 game play). First Departure is the only SO I will never play again because it littlery is the worst entry, I'll replay all the other ones with no problems, just the not FD or FDR. Plus If I was going to introduce someone to the SO series it probably would be either 2, 3, or 4.
@@kunckles213 Till the End of Time was the very first JRPG I ever played. Picked it up randomly and gained a lifelong best friend in high school (14 years ago LOL) from it, so I may be a bit biased saying it's the best. I barely remember Second Story, I played it on PsP a long while ago, so I can't speak on it. The remake of FD makes me hopeful for SS though! It's hard to say what I'd suggest, but I deeply love the series and even found a way to enjoy Integrity and Thoughtlessnes... I mean Faithlessness. Haha but I agree, as it stands, SO1 would be my last pick. My list goes: SO3, SO4, SO2, SO5, SO1.
@@tylerhassett9120 I've heard people say they hated the plot twist in SO3, but I absolutely LOVE it. You can't say it's not at least shocking. But I agree, the stories for 4 and 5 are not that good. I'm just a fanboy so I've played and enjoyed them all.
