We were both so young 12 years ago… I was even younger than you. It makes me tearful to realize the passing of time and how it can feel like it’s left your true self behind and the present you is just a memory of who you were, now in an aged shell of a body. Because aren’t we the purest expression of ourselves, our most honest selves, when we’re children? Do you still lay in a hot bath while doing coke and drinking whiskey? Do you hold onto pieces like that of your past self?

@@cornbreadzizzle7445 No brother I dont do coke and dont drink anymore. I kinda feel bad for younger me hurt lil guy trying drown himself in abyss of hedonism. I never said to anyone but I glad I opened up to you stanger. Aged shell of a body part got me tho not gonna lie)

must have been considerable desire after ww2 to salvage german culture by reaching back; fischer-dieskau did a great job, schwarzkopf too in a way

"Music, earthly mirror of the heavenly kingdom and my consolation. What would life have been without thee! My humble thanks and my blessing." - Gerald Moore An die Musik Josephine Foster Du holde Kunst, in wieviel grauen Stunden Wo mich des Lebens wilder Kreis umstrickt Hast du mein Herz zu warmer Lieb entzunden Hast mich in eine beßre Welt entrückt In eine beßre Welt entrückt Oft hat ein Seufzer, deiner Harf entflossen Ein süßer, heiliger Akkord von dir Den Himmel beßrer Zeiten mir erschlossen Du holde Kunst, ich danke dir dafür Du holde Kunst, ich danke dir

Moore + F.-Dieskau = the most perfect combination ever. They sound like a single instrument, their synchrony and volume are telepathic. What else can I say? Thanks for posting this wonderful piece.

The good old days when an accompanist could have his own TV show. One of the best videos of a live recital of DFD and Moore - one of the great musical partnerships. It would be great if there were so many more. A good example of Moore's tone, starting at around 6:00, and then in the final passage, he could get a soft, luminous, singing tone from the piano.
