TheTomJon, welcome to the channel my friend. I have a playlist featuring all the dolphin videos if you enjoyed watching the version 2. The version 3 build has started as all parts has arrived and the new build and speed run video will be coming soon so stay tuned. Rotor Flex 👍
Jeffdoesthis, now you’re taking and making it a bit more of a challenge as we can now start getting serious ! I’ll gladly hand the crown over but just be aware that my V3 Dolphin will be built soon and when you see this peace of art that crown better be well polished and ready to hand back! Epic achievement by the way and good work…. Rotor Flex👍
Hi_desert_rat, I totally agree. The sound of a big 2 stroke swinging a prop is amazing. If you enjoyed that let me know as we have bigger planes and some with smoke systems that I’ll do a video on if this type of video gets enough interest. Thanks for the comment….Rotor Flex 👍👍
Hi, Can you share the .stl file or the 3D file for the motor mount used on this model? The part that goes right behind the aluminum plate attached to and holding the motor. Thank you
Johnd1841, yes certainly no problem. I have spend a fair bit of time looking at different mounts but this one ticked all the boxes for me. www.thingiverse.com/thing:5147947
Awesome, thank you so much!! It's a great and aerodynamic mount, allows clean airflow to get to the motor. Your Dolphin looks amazing, too bad it had the mishap. Hopefully you will rebuild it soon. That's a Five33 Champion edition 2207 2070kV motor, isn't it? High kV for 6S. What size is your prop? Looks like a really nice motor for the task. Amazing speed achievement, keep up the great work. Just unbelievable.
@@johnd1841 yes it’s the five33 champion edition. It’s definitely high kv for 6s but it’s proped on a 5x5 so not loading the motor up to much. I’m waiting on delivery of another dolphin air frame so the build will resume soon. Again thanks for the comment and happy to help a fellow rc enthusiast out….Rotor Flex 👍👍
We no longer fly big petrol at our club because of noise and fear of losing the field. Fun Police are everywhere these days....Nice planes though, they look like readybuilds?....🤔😏🇬🇧
Englishturbines, we are luck that our flying site is well away from any houses so the noise isn’t an issue but the fun police have definitely spoiled it for a lot of sites. Yes both aircraft are ready built kits, I have an early wot 4 that was a scratch build but only seemed to be the earlier ones. Thanks for the comment….Rotor Flex👍
Hey EnglishTurbines, well spotted my friend. Yes I think taping them shut on the V3 is a great idea. I have uploaded a new video of yesterdays flying at the field with our big petrol planes, check it out and let me know if you’d like to see more of that type of content as I’m trying to grow the channel but would like some advice from my subs👍 thanks for the comment and stay tuned for more…. Rotor Flex
Brian, a keen eye for sure spotting the roof of the van 😂. Was a great day and nice to finally get the weather to do some real RC flying again….. Rotor Flex 👍
@@torquedude yes the weather has been brilliant! Unfortunately didn’t get out in at as I was painting garden walls and fences🤮but I am looking forward to the next spell of good weather, hopefully it won’t be too long away. Did you get up to the NW200 anytime this week? at least the weather was good for it for a change. Happy landings and keep her lite.👍👍👍👍👍
Rcplaytime, thanks man. They sound even better in person and the smell of the 2 stroke oil on the passes was amazing! Again thanks for the comment…Rotor Flex 👍
Point taken re the audio as there has been quite a bit of feedback, I’ll make sure to change it up a little on the V3 build. The 75c battery is one I had laying around but I have sense upgraded to a much higher C rating. Thanks for the comment and the honest feedback is much appreciated. Check out my latest ‘HUGE XL RC planes’ video, the audio is hopefully more to your liking. Rotor Flex 👍
Thanks for the honest feedback, it’s much appreciated. Music is something we all have personal taste in and is good to get some constructive criticism. I will try to make the sound tracks more universal in the future👍
Nice Job! This is just my opinion but I will say that for a speed record to count, the plane should stay together and not yard sale it's self into the ground. But, this is a street fight so there are no rules and anything goes. I am working on my Swordfish right now but soon my LiPo battery will be in and I am betting you are going to loose the crown again! Plus I am going to land my plane in one piece like a man.
I should join this..ive a beefy motor running a 7x6, a 7x10 to try, a few mods and now running at 2300mah 6s since my 1550 coudlnt output the 70amps for long enough..
Sorry, but a speed record is more than a short moment flashing a number in OSD while diving. Hold that Speed about 5 sek in a level flight and repeat in the opposite direction, than I will be impressed.
GramGrindt, I 100% get what you are saying from a land record but being a pilot myself I have to disagree as the only true way of recording an aircraft’s speed is via airspeed. I have a digital airspeed sensor so I’ll add it to the next build. The 5sec hold at a constant speed is not achievable with a lipo battery as the amp draw will pull the volts down when hitting the max C draw. A piston engine or turbine can sustain a much longer continuous speed as they do not rely on a spiking energy source. Stay tuned as the version 3 dolphin will be a record smasher!
@@torquedude I am looking forward to see your v3. I know about the problems with setting a speed record. But when the Voltage drops to far in a 5sek full throttle, you need a bigger Battery. For an official guiness speed record for RC Planes a level flight about 100m in both directions is needet. Under this criterion its mandatory to see the top speed at least for 1sek in the OSD. For accelleration without dive you Dolphin must survive ~5 Sek full throttle. In my optinion this is a good starting point for your battle with Jeff does this. Good luck.
Chrisbee5481, welcome to the channel. Yes 8s would be much faster but I am trying to improve on the current setup via aerodynamics. The v3 will be using the same motor/battery setup but trust me when I say it will be much faster. Maybe the final video I could do a motor upgrade just to see what it’s capable of…..Rotor Flex 👍
TacticalFPV, I had upgraded the servos and reinforced the control surfaces by carbon fibre skinning them so the only thing left is wing flex. The v3 I am building will have the wings fully reinforced, carbon fibre skinned control surfaces and height torque servos for good measures. The V3 dolphin will definitely handle the extra speed this time. I’m also making some major aerodynamic mods to the V3 to massively increase the top end speed so the max speed figures should be interesting. Stay tuned buddy as you don’t want to miss this one ….Rotor Flex 👍
@@torquedude wow, yea I just remembered the build video for this plane, that carbon fiber skin should have been enough, so it would seem. I’m building a dolphin now that I hope to do high speed runs as well and your crashes have helped me a lot, thank you for your sacrifice! Looking forward to V3!
@@tacticalFPV that’s fantastic that your building a high speed dolphin. I will be uploading the build of the V3 so you can try some of my new aerodynamic modifications if you want to get the most out of it. Any questions you have during your built just drop me a message, I’d be happy to help 👍
This a fun contest! The Dolphin is not really the best for speed, I love them and have two myself....but for raw speed a Mini Drak is hard to beat - Mine did >160mph in level flight, mind you it did pull 137 Amp on the 4S battery 😁
I am happy to report that all electronics have survived the 142MPH crash and AtomRC have posted my new Dolphin airframe. Stay tuned for the new improved, faster version 3! 🚀
Failure in mid-flight is an automatic DQ. The rivalry is still alive. My dolphin ejected it's motor once and floated for over a half mile before landing safe. It died 2 flights later much like this one, nose first!
HelloDonkey9, unfortunately I don’t do voice overs on my videos as not everyone wants to hear the Irish accent. It’s narrated only. Stay tuned for the v3 faster version. Welcome to the channel 👍👍
Hiya big fella (I) think it’s time to laminate your next high speed model, it will make the foam stronger and more efficient at high speeds. There’s plenty of videos on the tube to watch to get some good tips, painless 360 has a video covering how to cover. Keep up the good work and the pressure on poor old Jeff. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Brian, yes the wings will need reinforcing on the new one as it will be travelling a fair bit faster than the last one! Still deciding if I’ll skin the wing or cover it. Cheers for the comment Brian and I hope your still flying these days👍
@@torquedude Yes was out last Thursday when the wife was getting her hair done 🤮 Just went to New Mossley with the Avata to have a look at the latest new build, it’s a place now where there’s lots of building taking place which is good to see. Can’t wait for the next chapter between rotor - flex and Jeff 😂👍👍👍👍👍
My mate crashed a wing before due to wing flex and the fact that the servos are underneath. It’s harder for them to push to bring the elevons up and the servo rods bend. I will fit my servos on my dolphin ontop and strengthen the elevons. It looks like you lost the hatches in yours, you can see them fly off just before it crashes.
what flew off the plane at 142mph? cover the next Dolphin in gloss auto vinyl wrap. super slick, light and strong!!. my AtomRC Mobula is super strong and stiff after wrapping.. Loved the video series and the soundtrack!
Jarestaniland9117, the part that flew of the plane mid roll was the rear compartment hatch. The funny thing is that the hatch was from my previous build and had survived the previous crash. The running joke at the field after the crash was that the hatch knew what was coming ( big crash ) and decided to eject before impact 😂. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel 👍
@@torquedude that hatch flying off could of caused the crash. I had it before. I think the wind pressure can mess with the barometer or something els on the fc.
@@ttucker2073 yes I was thinking that also but then I realised that the death roll started before the hatch came off so that has me thinking wing wobble due to lack of strength. My V3 will be able to stand the extra speed with my new mods ideas. Just waiting on the delivery man arriving so I can get started👍
Michaelrothman4602, thanks for your comment. The buying options unfortunately do not come with video transmitter or radio receiver. You will need to purchase them separately. The dji goggles along with the 03 air unit is a great setup for your video and a lot of people are using the T16 radio for their rc controller. Hope this helps. Welcome to the channel…..Rotor Flex
Danpenry8899, welcome to the channel 👍. Yes I found that the elevons in the previous version had to much flex that lead to a similar crash so when I built this one I carbon fibre skinned them but in hindsight I should have done the whole wing. Stay tuned for my version 3 build where I’m going to make some serious aerodynamic modifications. Thanks for the comment….. Rotor Flex.
I would say your camera and transmitter sticking out on the nose is 10 to 15+ mph loss... Power doesn't give you that much more speed.. getting rid of drag does
RIP V2. I've seen your friendly competition with Jeff from the US, and I've just built my dolphin, and it's as slippery as a real doplhin!!!. ;) NB: I'm from Wales... a fellow celt. :D
DugDiamond1, welcome to the channel my friend. Thanks for the comment and I love that you’ve built a dolphin, fantastic airframe and fly great straight out of the box. Stay tuned for my V3 version as you’ll love the aerodynamic modifications coming! Thanks again….Rotor Flex.
Hey DINSTAAR-FPV thanks for the comment. No worries losing the V2 today as It means that you get to look forward to the V3. I had plans to make major aerodynamic mods to the v2 after another speed run test so you will see these modifications straight away on the V3. Again thanks for following along…..Rotor Flex
