Hi, the simple answer is no, as you need to press through the comb to take out a cell. I think if you used this technique on plastic comb you would more likely damage the cell and its contents. Someone may have perfected this process for plastic comb but we're not aware of it. You can always substitute a couple of frames with wax foundation to be able to do this in hive that uses plastic combs
We have provided some details in the description as to where you can obtain a cell Punch Kit. The one used in the film was purchased via the BIBBA website
I read Manley's book Honey Farming so often that the book became dog eared and tattered. I lent the book to someone who wanted to know more about beekeeping and it was never returned, I shall have to get hold of another copy. Does anyone know of Manley's final resting place and also the whereabouts of some of his out apiaries? As I would like to visit.
Thank you for your comment. We have started some enquiries as to Manley's resting place, we hope we may be able to answer your questions in due course. In the meantime, we would invite to get your replacement copy of Honey Farming with us, we can offer original publication in hardback from our second hand collections or a modern reprint in soft back or hardback
Following our enquiries, we have had communication from a relation. They have informed us that 'Robert is buried in Church Hanborough (near Blenheim) churchyard in his mother's grave. The apiaries are just about all gone to housing now'
@@NorthernBeeBooks Thanks, Most helpful. It makes sense that he's buried at Hanborough as I believe that is where he was born, I shall have to go on a search. Regarding his book Honey Farming, I have since located a replacement for my "lost original" otherwise I would have ordered from you. Thanks for your help. I have many happy memories of Beekeeping, I no longer keep bees. My brother and I did once do some volunteer work for Oliver field, and there was an interesting old chap who lived in the village where I come from (Shrivenham) called John Sharp. I have no doubt he would have brought books from you. Other people I used to know where Bill Mattingly and Dennis Harmsworth. Maybe you have heard of them, sadly all passed away now though!
The only thing I've noticed with doing vertical splits is if you don't get the hives off quick enough it ends up making some angry bees. . Wow did you see how many bees were on his back
The Manley book is a wealth of information and exactly as he says a good read. One of the most interesting things was he mentioned the mistakes he made as he started out.
