That shot of the brown house in Peachland at 6:48 is from Trepanier Bench Rd looking down at Buchanan. I grew up near there. A friend of mine lived in that brown house.
I just streamed the video the other day, awesome documentary! Growing up in Kelowna, Burger Baron was part of my life in the 80s...I was more of a red sauce guy, but still enjoyed the Mushroom ones now and then. Now that I live in Edmonton I can still get my fill ! Anyone have the recipe for the red sauce?
So many good burgers over the years! Especially at the Swan Hills location when Ziad was running it! Hands down the best! Gourmet burger with zucchini sticks!
Being from Edmonton I was very interested to watch the movie. It was totally ruined by the background music. They would do interviews and the music drowned out the people talking. I gave up after about 20 minutes.
Unfortunately we learned from multiple Paramount+ Prime subscribers that the movie an audio mix glitch which causes the music to overpower the dialogue. This only affects the P+ Prime add-on and apparently it doesn’t affect the experience on laptops and tablet/phone apps (not that these are ideal ways to watch). We hope to fix it soon and then we hope you’ll give it another chance. Sorry again.
The Burger Baron in Edmonton on Ft. Road, not sure if it’s still there looked abandoned for years. I lived and worked near it for years. Never saw a car or a person in or near it. Then one day I saw someone go in. Our crew went in and asked if they were open now. They assured us they’d been open for many years! This was in the ‘80’s. Not sure how they survived. Certainly not selling burgers!
I just listened to the CBC interview about the Burger Baron documentary! I can't wait to see it! Jerry's Burger Baron in Hanna is an important fixture in the community. Great pizza, great burgers, shakes mmm...popular spot for locals!
Looks great, can’t wait to see it. TERRIFIC topic! I’ve eaten at a few Burger Barons in AB during my time there and they were absolutely mysterious, entirely unique to each chain, and I always wondered WTF was up with that?! This is a story that needed to be told!!
When I google Burger Baron, it also shows restaurants in Chicago that appear to be unaffiliated with the Canadian Burger Barons other than having the same name. What's up with those?
One of my favorite burger spots in Edmonton when I came here from Ontario in 1979 was the Burger Baron on 99st. They had the best fried onions. I'm still trying to capture their unique taste while cooking burgers.
Glad I’m not the only one who’s been confused and intrigued by BB my entire life. Never went to the one in Lethbridge, tried Kelowna once and it was a mistake.
