Satin for Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane is a little to dull, semi gloss on light colors. Ben Moore is fine for satin. Maybe a mohair roller is practical also.
Lots of good tips but according to what I see at 9:45 this is not a 'factory' finish. I can still see brush strokes. I don't believe any brush work can compare to a good spray. I think anyone wanted to do this should go and buy small paint can and do a test. It is true that not anyone wants to buy or rent paint sprayer or want to learn how to use it. Paint one half of a test board with this method brush and other half with home depot spray can and compare which one is closer to factory finish.
I bought the HDepot Behr cannot paint and it’s suppose to be self leveling….i used a roller and this paint did not leave a smooth finish not self leveling at all…..
I have used this and a two part conversion varnish and to be honest, there is no difference. This stuff is bullet proof. I spray it using a Fuji Q5 HVLP system.
1:45 that sounds like you're rubbing a wall. a smooth finish should have hardly any sound at all. when i rub my hands on my kitchen cabinets i hear nothing. Scuff-X is intended for walls, not cabinetry/builtins
Why would a DYI person with old beat up wood cabinets use BM Advance with the 16 hour dry time if he could use Insl-X Cabinet Coat Satin with short time and get on with his life?
Im positive i got a bad can or something because uh damn it had no color at all, went on clear and off yellow. As a painter that used PPG often i was pissed at how garbage this product was....the enamel is even worse. Added months of work to an RV reno
This has been my go-to paint for all my woodworking. BM dealers do not do a good job at pushing this paint and instead they push the more DIY friendly Advance. For the pro, this is the better product IMO.
Thank you Sir. Tenant moved out. You helped with my decision. $80 for 5 gallons at Ace Hardware. I need 3. Talking about saving money with a nice mid grade paint!
I would love the link for the other video for cabinet paint!!!! Need to do my kitchen and there are about 24 cabinets to paint 😑 I want to only do them once! 😂
Used this today paid $52 at Lowe’s added flowtrol covered great went on like butter put a very rough finish .tomorrow I’ll put on the second coat.but I’ll go back to Behr much smoother and I think a little cheaper🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This was such a a great video, thank you!! I'm curious what do you typically use for exterior paints? And also if you don't mind, do you have an opinion on SW's new(ish) emerald rain line? I'm a pretty die hard Emerald girl for my interior projects and just starting to get bids for my exterior (I've hired for interior but defaulted to doing it myself after a really bad experience a few years back at an old house, so I'm nervous for the hiring part). Thanks!
I bought this for the first time today (May 2024) in a dark green to be applied to my outdoor deck which is already a dark brown. I brushed it simply because I don't want to deal with the overspray. I'd be a week just covering and masking areas I don't want affected. So far, I am pleased with the coverage.
I wished I watched this a few weeks ago, we bought a new fiberglass front door that I painted and wife picked a sherwin williams color so i decided to go with Emerald urethane as reviews i read said it dries to hard and easy to clean surface plus only had 4 hour recoat rather than 16 hr recoat time with my normal go to BM Advance. BIG MISTAKE this SW paint is awful! Yes it applied really nice, leveled out (i sprayed it) beautifully but and BIG BUT it scratches so easy and doesn't like to be wiped clean. I sanded near the door so the dust went on the navy blue door that I wanted wipe off, I was wiping dust off lock when my finger nail barely touched paint left a scratch that i had touch up (2 days after painting) then there were some smudges from install that i soaked a paper towel with just water, it left a mark where i lightly wiped door clean that needed touch up. Should have used my usual Advance, have sprayed several cabinets/vanities/etc.with it and that leaves a rock hard easy to clean surface. Looks like at some point in near future I will be repainting door with Advance.
