I agree! The trick was one of those ones that I used to use quite a bit. It came up on twitter and I realized that it wasn't widely shared. Hope it helps out! Thanks for watching.
Hey John, this is a fun tip but, at least with Revit 2022 or later, you can no longer <Ctrl> copy reference planes in a view title family. So hang on to those title block families with reference planes added because you won’t be able to replicate with new families in newer versions of Revit.
For some reason I can't make my central zone to 1080 height, if I add a second zone my main zone goes to 1000 and the smaller doesnt want to go less that 114 or something
It should be doable. I have been meaning to test in a newer version, but have not had a chance. The biggest obstacle is if they change the ASM version. (Autodesk Shape Manager) which is the geometry kernel.
Left a reply on the post as well but truly an amazing breakdown. Thank you so much for your time and effort spent on this! So many pieces of Revit families that have separated mine from more "professionally" made ones are becoming clear. Will definitely be watching this a few more times to take it all in.
And here is that AU class from 2017! www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Flexible-Families-Learn-Make-Your-Families-Stretch-and-Flex-Never-REPEAT-2017
Hi nice crac! I have query, I’d like to hide some Generic Annotations family from my sheet, We can control by VV in the sheet but I’m wondering which node could have that? Cause the node you use you have as a first input VIEW, but for sheet should we have a node SHEET stead? Thank you, Love your channel.
How to get all wall elements of the specific wall type that I need? for ex, I want list of all the wall of the type: basic Brick Wall that I used in the model
Hi guy. Dynamo for Revit is Broken for sure ! I'm having a problem using the FamilyType.ByGeometry node, and more specifically the "Category" entry. I want to create a conceptual mass (link from my templatePath) and the associated category is "Mass". However, when I launch my script, Dynamo reports the following problem: "FamilyType.ByGeometry operation failed. Category with name Mass not found". I should point out that I'm launching the Dynamo plugin from a conceptual Volume Family window. Do you know where this error could be coming from?
Hey John! I hadn't realized this had changed ... and quite a while ago. I was looking for nodes to list all families regardless of them being placed or not ... I thought All Elements of Type paired with the Element Types would grab all families whether placed or NOT ... that doesn't seem to be the case now -- maybe I'm wrong?
I need to do a massive rehaul of the custom tools we have but I am still pretty new to it all. Do you have any recommendations on sites I can use to help me learn what each node does? I would prefer to use only native nodes and only use packages sparingly if possible because managing them is a hassle and getting an entire team to set up their file locations can be taxing as well for this to work in multiple offices. I saw a video from BIM Guru talking about how this new change will probably weed out and make a few packages obsolete is no one cares enough to update them. I am just not sure of the best resources to learn each of the nodes. I have tried looking into the Dynamo website but I feel like its just as confusing there to understand what everything does. Any thoguths?
So revitAttac converts DWG to Revit elements? Great summary, handy for people coming up to speed. The net8 change will be interesting, maybe a good thing for unsupported tools that hung on for dear life. Fortunate that most firms wont be in 2025 too soon! Align annotations is a welcome change. Hopefully eventually we see prefiltering with iselectionfilter, users at work love the tools I've built using it for quick selections vs filtering back slow ones. Feels like a tool that was built for it but never used completely above the hood to its full potential.
I definitely like to “pre-filter” for selection based tools as well. I tend to collect elements that are allowed during a known slow process like syncing (utilizing an event handler). That way I have those elements stored somewhere already for quick access.
Thanks for lists, i was searching, and searching. I got problem (bug) and need to try other version Dynamo .. i mean Revit to hope to gain other results. Edit oh gosh as Revit 2024.1 i have 2.18.0 and maybe 2.18.1 And that have huge problem with strings like "010" or anything that have only numbers, and zero is in front of it :(. ....... I really hate Revit 2024, it is the worst in my experience so many minor problems, and even Dynamo version for R2024 sucks :(.
can the watch node be set as Output in revit 2022? cause i set it and it DOES NOT show as output.. the script just runs. and that's it. i would need the list with the IDs so i can click the element and see where they are on the current plan.

Is this a 3d model text nested in a generic model family ?
It is! With a parameter tied to the model text. Why not just model text? Creating model text via the API is more complicated (but not impossible). Generic models offer more adaptability.
Thanks for the video... Would you know how to get the "Fluid Type" parameter value from a pipe element" All Pipes have a System Type, it shows the Piping System and the Piping system contains the"Fluid Type" parameter value... just not sure how to get the value.
Walls are a system family and not loadable from an external RFA. But for any loadable families, you could batch load them with Dynamo or a plugin. Though, I wouldn’t advise just loading everything in your file.
