The problem with this country is about the mindset of the ruling class. Highly paid politicians and their equally highly paid public servants, hold tightly to the view that welfare recipients are the equivalent to convicts. They deserve nothing but disdain and to be treated like criminals. nuclear energy is incredibly safe its actually one of the most efficient , produces no co2, and also you can recycle nuclear waste and you are left with almost no material furthermore an atomic bomb nuclear test has nothing to do with a nuclear power plant. you clearly have no understanding of nuclear power, nuclear management or even nuclear waste storage.
Much improved nuclear reactor designs are possible, low energy output, long fuel life, which much lower risk. Sure current designs are bad but better ones are possible, hence nuclear energy research and development should continue but bad reactor design should not be implemented. Sounds like they are betting on a better reactor design, hence the long lead time.
