We are Orca Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that collaborates with some of the world’s top research institutions and environmental groups to address and take action on the most critical issues now facing wild killer whales. Our urgent attention is on the Southern Resident killer whale population that inhabits the inland waters of Washington State and British Columbia. This population of orca whales is listed as an Endangered Species due to diminishing food sources, pollution, and noise pollution.

Let’s just let them decline. If we let them continue as a species, they’ll continue to sink innocent cruise ships. And they might even evolve a way to kill all humans on the planet!

Well it's just like the Grey and Red Squirrel, the more aggressive Transient will eventually take over the Residents Territories. So help save the Residents food source. If you need people to do anything, you better come straight out and ask them.👊✌️

Southern resident killer whales eat “Salmon” as well as other species of fish including black cod. They do not feed exclusively on Chinook salmon. Stop pushing this narrative.

@@TheDaragh How do you know for sure? It seems that they are eating what they can find when they are hungry. In Canada, Howe Sound fjord, I heard that there are plenty of herrings, so we know that they are eating those. If they choose to eat salmon instead of the other « available » species around (not sure though) there might be reason for that choice. Right?

The Penn Cove captures are the reason the Southern Resident orca dolphins are still endangered as of now. The last captive SR, Tokitae, died this August just before her eventual release.

For those wondering, transient and resident orcas prefer not breed with each other. Last time it happened was 10,000 years ago.

now an overwhelming urge for salmon sashimi has washed over me. they look very healthy and happy. hope we get plenty of chinook running this year to keep them well fed. sad to think we won't be here to see any of these beautiful Orca breaking Granny's record...... but I hope someone will..... go team J pod!
@OrcaConservancyOfficial

We also hope they are getting a lot of food. Just yesterday a report was released that indicated 10 individuals from J, K and L Pods were appearing in poor body condition caused by nutritional stress. So we have to keep our foot on the gas to make sure these whales will have fish to survive.

@@OrcaConservancyOfficial seems like our greys are also having a tough time getting enough to eat lately. and there's another el Nino starting this year too...... that usually means big ugly red algae blooms. food tends to go off when it's not refrigerated properly huh.

if we continue to treat our local Orca with respect, dignity, and care..... our local Orca will continue to leave our rudders and boats alone..... as they always have and will.

There are a couple of boys here in the Salish Sea that are pretty famous for playing with crab pots, boat anchors, and even boats. One went viral on RU-vid several years ago for causing a small collision of a moored sailboat into another because he was playing with the anchor and moving it around, which caused the boat to move around. Orcas are curious in nature and sometimes play with things that they shouldn't play with, which is what we believe is happening with the population off the coast of Portugal.
@JuandeFucaU
@JuandeFucaU Год назад
@@OrcaConservancyOfficial not sure I would characterize what's happening off the Iberian coast as just being playful or curious like our locals. I certainly don't blame Orca, especially for disarming a perceived threat, and hope no humans allow themselves to be harmed as a result of the Orca's actions. it is their territory, as much if not more than our own..... as they were here first and those are our rules..... supposedly. I had an old friend who worked at the aquarium so I had an opportunity to interact with Skana occasionally..... bittersweet memories..... much prefer seeing them swim free.
