Was Kady a tennis player? I see a lot of concepts from tennis, such as the unit turn, the lag, transfer of weight and finishing over left shoulder . I have been wondering myself how can I hit harder so this video is most welcome!
Excellent breakdown, thank you!! I’m wondering if she is trying to impart topspin on her stroke also. Kind of looks like it I think. Also, not clear what direction the paddle face should be on contact. I think it looks pretty much vertical although maybe slightly angled down. Thanks again! The slow motion breakdown of footwork is terrific!
It depends on how high the contact is and what type of spin (if any) she wants to put on the ball. Often it’s quite vertical and usually a touch open depending on all of the above. No one size answer for this.
Great lesson. I love the slow-mo breakdown. Indeed a personal video analysis/comparison would be highly helpful. 👍 Time to get out the tripod and camera.
dinking has always been the worst part of pickleball- and all of the top paddle makers have turned to POWER which proves it. I called this two years ago, dinking sucks.
Notice the difference between forehand and backhand slice movement. The forehand is not really a slice but more like as flat shot with face open initially but not much slicing on o flow through, unlike backhand
I’m trying hard to improve. I noticed here that on deep returns his wife’s paddle went over her left shoulder. My deep return went into the net. What am I doing wrong?! And that was it-lack of proper form. Also, his feet are always set-no spaghetti feet. 🦶 other pointers here also good!
I have always found it a little harder to summarise Nicole's videos compared to other you tube coaches. The penny has just dropped as to why!!!! Every sentence she uses in her explanations is filled with vital gems of information..... no rambling.....just straight-forward, critical hints that make such a lot of sense for her followers like me. Excellent work, Nicole.
Coming to pickleball from tennis two years ago, I used topspin right off. Felt so natural. That said, the hardest drive for me to return is a backhand slice with power (talking to you, George S).
Great concepts here- combination of mental and physical part of the game. As I progress in learning pickleball, countering is next after getting over the fear of bangers! With the onset of longer paddle handles- do you change your grip or grip location when doing a defensive block or offensive counter ?
Yeah i can see why a lot of people forget to have fun. People are very competitive and can be sore losers. Different age and skill levels can make the game not as fun with some. We have people who only want to play with certain people.
Riley's positioning of low and wide with forward leaning upper body and paddle far enough in front plus high enough seems to buy him more time to adjust, watch ball into paddle, swing compactly with contact in front and quickly back to ready. I struggle with that ready position so lose time, get off balance and lose eyes on ball. Great to see it done correctly to be more ready and balanced so more able to watch the ball.
Very basic and simple rules which are great. However you said you need a 2 bounce rule between server and return. You advise the non serving player to get to the non return zone which I understand. But what happens if the opposite teams returns the ball toy partner who is in the position to return a volley because of your advice. Should they let the ball bounce and attempt a return or should they play they volley because they have got themselves in a position to to return it? If they should avoid returning then your video should advise both players staying in the.touchline until it has been returned. I want to commend you for an excellent demonstration of the sport but 😁 lesser advise the benefit of a forward player in a 2 bounce situation from serve
Nichole, you are without a doubt one of, if not THE very BEST pickleball trainers I’ve EVER run across. I thoroughly enjoy your RU-vid videos and have learned and applied many of your teachings to my game. Thank you so much for the great content and keep it coming.
I have been doing lobs as far back as a few years ago, when it was poopooed by everybody as low skill level shot. LOL Not anymore! I have a pretty consistent lob and use it often. I am not called the "Lobster." :) Great video, Nicole. Lots of great advice, as usual.
I guess the big question is whether we should be changing grip throughout a game, during a point? I tend to use a slice return on my backhand, as it is an easier shot to play - especially if using a continental grip. But is there enough time to see the serve (or any shot for that matter) is coming to my backhand to change grip and deliver a top-spin shot?
Often there is enough time and sometimes there's not. Pros are constantly making grip adjustments. Use a grip shift to your advantage when there's time.
