I was there at that match, and was a season ticket holder at BWFC in that season. I was with my late Dad, and we were late arriving, and going down Manchester Road to Burnden Park, so went into the Railway End as we usually went into the Lever End. This goal was almost in front of us. Worthington was an outstanding player. So much so that the actor Bill Maynard (Selwyn Froggett) used to go to every match Frank played in. 'Big Frank' only played a few games for England as he was a bit of a maverick . A truly skilful player was he.
The season we (Ipswich) looked odds on to go down before Christmas, then had a great revival and should have stayed up, only to throw it away again. Sliding doors moment in our clubs history that season. Still saddens me to this day
You can't train for that, it is 100% natural talent and it is rare as clubs and coaches drill it out of the players most of the time. Whorthy was an underrated genius, who could turn the game in a heart beat. Yet another sad loss to the game.
