Probably you could also pretty easy modify it for DS3231 RTC chip. Sure not a 1:1 pin compatible replacement but nothing a separete piece of pcb couldn't do the trick. With the DS3231 it should be accurate enough to only be set once or twice a year. Yeah the naked crystal RTC's aren't the most accurate. But hey many of the kit are quite fun to build and use at office desk etc.

@Hasitier
@Hasitier 4 года назад
Mine works but only for a hand full of screws until the battery dies. I measured the battery and I took barely a charge (about 400mAh it could take). In such a power device I expect the cell to take something from 1500 to 2500 mAh especially if it’s from Bosch. So I have one with a bad battery. The seller sent me a new one. When it arrives I will make a follow up I think.

Mito Fun nice to hear that but i do not intend to mod mine. At least not now. My question in my video was if it is normal that the green charge indicator blinks 20 times after every use of this screwdriver. Can you tell me if it is also the case on your unit? Because I’m the users manual (at least in the English one) there is nothing written about it. I want to understand why it is doing it and if I might have gotten a faulty unit.

I have no idea if it's borked or the correct behaviour, but who doesn't like blinking LEDs!!!! I'd want it to blink 40 times, and I'd change the LED to a blue one! It's 100% worth voiding the warranty for a blue LED!

I made this clock kit some months ago, and have always wished it were more accurate. I used your project as inspiration to convert the clock to NTP synced time. It took a while to figure out how you hooked up the TM1637 board to the clock, and I had to use a different Arduino script as I couldn't get the Brian Lough script to compile. I still need to figure out how ti incorporate DST into the script I used. Even so, thanks for the inspiration! I'm thrilled now that the clock displays accurate time.
@Hasitier

Hey, thanks for the comment. Brian recently updated his code. So maybe give it another try. I also had to find out which versions of the library’s to use to get it to compile. Thankfully Brian is really helpful. Maybe ask him if something is unclear. As my clocks run fine I did not update them since the video was made, so I cannot tell you what’s needed to get the actual code to compile.
@maximo9480
@maximo9480 5 лет назад
Does your code include DST adjustment? If so, would I be out of line to ask if you would be willing to share a copy of your code?
@Hasitier
@Hasitier 5 лет назад
Max Imo the code I run is an earlier version of Brian’s code. It already had DST correction in it and also the actual code has. I spoke with Brian yesterday and he told me that he had updated his code a few days ago. Maybe give it a try. I can take a look if I find the code I used when this video was made. But then I would also not be able to tell you which version of which library’s I used back then so it might not compile easily.

@Hasitier
@Hasitier 5 лет назад
Hi, the sketch is from my fellow RU-vidr Brian Lough. He recently updated the sketch. I did not try out the newest version so I cannot tell you which versions of which library’s will get it to compile. You might ask him yourself. He also commented on that video so just ask him by replying to his comment maybe.

@Hasitier

As far as I know that is not possible with the code in its actual form (allthough you would have a valid time with the rtc). I did not need this functionality so far. As i am not the author of the code you might raise a pull request to add this functionality in the original authors GitHub.

"Take one of those chips ... and throw it away" :D Yeah they are nice programmers! Thats a good idea with the ZIF socket, I must buy some! Amazing lab! So much cool looking stuff. I will do a tour of my work area soon, I think you will be disappointed by the lack of electronic equipment I have though! (No PSU, no Oscilloscopes etc) Nice collection of DMM too! Have you used any of the logging or bluetooth on the new one? Thanks a lot for the video Michael, I actually really appreciate you making it, not just for the attiny stuff but the lab tour too. Brian
@Hasitier
@Hasitier 6 лет назад
Yes, dropping this little Attiny on the floor was not planned at all but if one hand tries to hold the phone and this phone than is in the way so you can’t see what you are doing this is exactly what happens:-) For the things you do mostly (esp and Arduino programming) you really don’t need a lot of tools. But it is nice to have. And I collected those over several years. Electronics is my hobby since I am able to hold an iron and this started at maybe 7 or 8 I think. I just got to play with Dave’s new DMM for about an hour or so (you know the little ones stealing your time) so I tried not out the logging. Unfortunately there is no app for iOS available until now and because I have no android phone to hand I also could not try this but maybe my father wants to get rid of his old android phone, than I will try. Maybe I will do a little hands on video. Suggestion for your live show tomorrow: you could surely easy add a stop watch and a countdown timer. I hope I can participate tomorrow. Regards Michael
@BrianLough
@BrianLough 6 лет назад
Yeah i find it tough work to do anything with one hand anytime I've tried it, I guess I'll have to show off my solution when i do my tour, I kind of showed it at the last live stream though. Yeah I agree, I kind of want to buy them, but I actually am not sure if there was ever a time I needed them. I tend to even not to do lower level stuff where I would need to see the sequence of a signal, normally my DMM telling me if it's high or low is usually enough! I'm pretty new into it, I did Electronics and Computer engineering in college, and I did some modding of consoles around that time, but when I graduated college I went into software development and never did anything with electronics til about 2 years ago when I bought my first few arduinos/esp8266 Nice ideas! I was thinking of making a stream timer which kind of fits into your ideas too, so if I tell my wife I'm only going to stream for 30 minutes I don't end up streaming for 100 minutes like that last time :D
