If you want to experience a St. John's, Newfoundland Screech-In Ceremony, I recently posted the following video from a road rally that 40 or so friends took across Newfoundland back in August of 2019 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lsG0vYBxamE.html
Thank you so much for sharing this. It's so wonderful to hear this all. It was such an emotional journey and there's so much heart in all these songs. I tracked it (as best as I could) below. If anyone has any corrections please feel free to tell me. Cut From Away: 00:30 - You Are Here 06:10 - Explanation of that 08:15 - Costume Party (Diane/Bev) 12:50 - Dialogue about the collaboration 13:56 - Werner Baldessarini 20:20 - Salvation Army and Moldova story 22:00 - Some version of Darkness and Trees (Russian) 24:10 - Story of how the first draft of the show was sent out 25:33 - A tribute to mothers/It's in the Job Description 30:44 - About the show and things they miss they cut 36:00 - What became On the Edge 42:55 - Explanation for the next song 43:13 - Bob's Song/Something's Missing 46:30 - Explanation for the next one 48:25 - I don't know what it's called, but Lead Me Home? 52:58 - Washington 56:30 - Welcome to the Rock (Original)
25:34 - Let me break ALL your hearts: Beulah Cooper, one of the women for whom the character of Beulah Davis is named, had a son, Aubrey, who was a firefighter. That's what allowed her to connect and sympathize with Hannah. Aubrey passed away shortly after the Broadway premier of Come From Away. I like to think he was excited to finally meet Kevin O'Rourke, and that they're good friends now, just like their mothers. "Our candle's in the window."
Thanks for posting this. What’s amazing is I heard some of the lines that were cut in the pre-Broadway show in Toronto in 2016. I miss the line about the chalkboard drawing of a goose.
You are welcome! I am always reticent to record anything in a public performance - and hold no ownership rights over any of this. This night was different because a slice of history was being offered to an audience for the first time and it was an important history. I tried to capture it because it was important - and honor the troupe and the family who made this possible. This show inspired me to travel to Newfoundland in August to explore in my own way. I am happy to say that I have made connections with several different islanders who are so much like those of the play - but different in their own spirit. Authentic and wonderful and people I look forward to being lifelong friends. I am now living my own connection to the island - which is the real magic of this story.

Thanks for posting your video! I was part of the route planning for the Iowa segments of MTTS, and it is fun to see someone share their experience with the route. Glad you got to do the Field of Dreams! We had brainstormed making that part of the official route, but the logistics of getting several hundred cars routed thru there made it a non-starter. But I knew the baseball fans would know it and make the effort to find it. Sorry to see you didn't make it to the stop at Amana Colonies for your free treat! Looks like you took I-380 to I-80 -- we purposely took the route thru the Amana Colonies to US 6 to Newton. Much more scenic and avoided all the truck traffic, and doesn't really take that much more time. Hope you enjoyed your time in Iowa!
Greg - thanks for your comments and for all your work in helping to prepare the Iowa welcome. I think I was in touch with some of your team before the event to ask about the Field of Dreams alternative. Getting so close, there was no way that I would let that one get away... Yes, I can see how the normal number of cars on a stop would make for a challenge there - but it would have been so great to have a baseball field full of MINI people.... I had a great time there - everything I had hoped for and I got some great photography done as well as the video. After I left, I realized that I had spent way too much time at Field of Dreams - which played into my route choice. I wanted to drop over and reconnect with the Amana Colonies but I was guessing that by the time I got there the MINIs would have been packed and gone. I got to Des Moines at a comfortable hour for dinner and the Interstate wasn't too terrible. I felt like I got to see some of back country Iowa - which was great - and in Des Moines everyone was thrilled to see my Field of Dreams T shirt.... The greatest memory was the drive through Stuart Iowa the next day and the welcome with T shirts and other gifts being rained into my open convertible. Just wonderful. I have had friends who have done RAGBRAI and other events in the State - and I feel now like I touched a little of that welcome. Thanks again and I hope to touch down on another MTTS some day !!
Thanks so much - its just a frigging iPhone 5. Kind of blown away by the audio quality. I cupped my hand on the speaker / mic end - but I wasn't expecting this range of quality. Video is HQ and good but the sound blows me away.
Thanks for posting it Walter. I'm gonna have to catch Neil on the flip side. "Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" ( lewis carroll "Jabberwocky")
Agree Totally. Its rare these days to see a 16 minute piece (rare in itself) taken to almost a half hour of sheer guitar and musical brilliance. The connection between the players was amazing - and the winding down of the piece was part of the fun, the thrashing beating hulk of this song refusing to die. This was the best thing I have seen live in at least a decade (some old King Crimson shows come to mind).
...and I have almost a Terabyte of video and images still to process from MTTS 2012. I won't post every second on the road (though I have a lot of it) but hopefully the best bits...
