I grew the Big Yellow Simpson this year too, but I think mine were a bit different compared to yours. Way more ribbed and flat, and the flesh and particularly the skin are a bit hard, not very smooth. Taste was okay, not special. Maybe the variety is not very stable? Got the seeds from Tomatotifou.
I agree, Alex! Suffer Well is THE best tomato…ever. I felt like I’d died and gone to tomato heaven. Checked all the boxes for me and has become my all-time favorite tomato! I also adored Shake the Disease. Can’t wait to grow all the new Duran Duran and Beastie Boy varieties next season!
Looking forward to growing Suffer Well next season. I have a few other Depeche Mode varieties but none of the others that you showed other than Suffer Well.
Excellent video and review, my friend! ❤️🍅 The origin stories from Bill Yoder were so interesting; it was meant to be that Depeche Mode had songs that matched each tomato’s characteristics 🤘
I really enjoyed this review of new varieties and hearing Bill’s story about developing his series, and of course loving the beautiful photography of your reviews as always! 😍
Depeche Mode is my favorite band, and "Strangelove" is one of my favorite of their songs. Even though I already have waaaaay too many tomato seeds, I might have to go for this one.
I saw your channel so many times over the past many months and just thought it was a computer generated thing for clicks! Oh man, I have never been more wrong! You have the best Tomato review channel on RU-vid! Simply amazing for you to grow and highlight so many insanely delicious looking varieties! 😂.. keep up the good work. Do you have a support system setup? Store? Subscription service, etc?
I have never seen a list that I had to watch 3 times! Taking notes and pictures! Every single one is now an obsession to find! I’ve been chasing heart/Oxheart varieties from Eastern Europe for awhile and can’t get a solid list from anyone! Anna’s sweet and Russian 117 are the only choices that people seem to agree on as solid! Please name me a few dense/sweet/rich/amazing red or Pink Oxhearts from Russia/Poland/Ukraine, etc. I’m trying to learn more, please excuse my ignorance if I listed the wrong source countries.
You should try Boloto (Swamp), Zloty Ozarowski, Spencer, Gritzyk, Superexotic, Altai Orange. They are from Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and Ukraine. I'm not sure, but you can try to find them on tomatoeden. Good luck!
It’s really tough to compare your warm-ish to cold growing conditions compared to my Hot and Humid conditions.. trying to figure out if any of these beautiful tomatoes even have a chance in my climate.. ex. July/ Aug will exceed 100 degrees F many days with 75% humidity.. 90 degrees and up from Mid-late June through mid September.. on average.
You do an amazing job brother! Great explanation and amazing photos! I’m shopping for compact dwarfs for indoors… under 4’ with largish slicing tomatoes! You bring options in spades! Just wow!
This is a nice tomato. Most yellow tomatoes are pretty mild, but this one has a lot of flavor. Produced decently with the ridiculously hot summer I just had.
I live in Samoa, a tropical climate in the Pacific with high humidity most of the year. I grow Blood moon, all the Gondwana varieties, rosella purple and a few others. I grow them in ten gallon pots. They not only thrive but they also produce lots of fruit. I grow the seeds in May-June then transplant the seedlings in July. Come August and September my tomatoes thrive as these are the coolest months of the year here! So yes, nothing ventured nothing gained. By the way my indeterminate big beef tomatoes are also thriving and I am loving it. Still need to explore other dwarf varieties later now I know what I have learned so far.
In our greenhouse out best tating is>>> #1 Champion2 #2 Moskvich #3 SF Fog #4 Early Girl We have just harvested out first fruit off out Ace 55 plant. It was good, but we need to taste a few more before passing judgment. !
Uluru ochre is definitely a fantastic tomato. I'm growing 4 dwarf varieties this year, and unfortunately it's by far the least productive in the heat. Rosella purple is doing very well though, and the taste is almost as good.
I live in the tropics and would love to try growing dwarf tomatoes. Temperatures are between 20-30 degrees Centigrade, and I have grown determinate and indeterminate tomatoes successfully. These are of the heat tolerant varieties. Are there similar dwarf tomato varieties that would grow well in these temperatures please? Would love your feedback thanks!
My Goodness this is the best tomato video I have ever seen. Thank You for sharing this. You are the Tomato King. The colors are so cool. orange and yellow and purple OH My!
Sounds like somebody let their small child name the tomato. Reminds me of the time my little sister tried naming our first family dog “rainbow puppy” and “friendship dog.” Good thing she had an elder to set her straight. We finally diplomatically settled on the slightly-less cringe title of “Prince” lol
Alex, great video! Different subject but could you at some point do a video on how you string your tomatoes. Seems unique and I am interested in seeing what you do.
Thanks! You can see a little bit about how I string tomatoes in this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TsKRdwKj2PU.html&ab_channel=LUCKYGARDEN.
Growing Starfighter Prime and Dipper's Delight this year. Two very different plants. Prime is the classic lanky and thin stems oxheart that need a tall trellis for support, I had to increase my 5ft trellis to 6.5ft to accommodate it. Dipper's Delight is very stocky and sturdy, haven't fruit yet but I'm already liking it a lot as it's growing stocky in containers and putting out a lot of blossoms. I don't grow too many dwarves because I like growing massive tall indeterminate plants, but Dipper's Delight is looking like a very prolific one for container growing.
After watching this vid I come to the conclusion you dont know tomatoes and the reason behind this thinking is you dont have Brandywine which is an heirloom and the best tasting tomato and by the way the cherry tomatoes dont count when comparing varieties.
You're an awesome tomato gardener and conosieur of tomatoes! Do you have any videos of how you fertilize your tomatoes at planting and during the season? Many thanks! John McHatton
