Really should post the sales price so those of us looking for a fastback can decide to pursue, or give up after clicking on 3 different links only to be brought to more RU-vid videos who no price. They made a lot of 68 fastbacks w/302's that are priced all over the spectrum. If you run across a 67 /390 4sp let us know, with price.
YOU seem to forget about the 16X Rotary engine that Mazda has been working on for over 10 years. It's a1660cc, long throw eccentric shaft engine designed for low end torque, and have a 7500rpm redline. It was expected to get around 260 to 300 naturally aspirated hp. Combine that with THREE electric motors? YEAH! 350hp sounds about right.
I owned a '66 A code (289 4V 4 speed) in '68 that me and my Dad installed a K code engine from a wrecked hipo Mustang. When the 302 J's started showing up we kind of scoffed at them as far as being a performance car, as I recall they were rated at 220 HP, whereas the K code 289 was rated at 271 and 306 with headers/intake manifold/bigger carb.
For those that don't know (perhaps he mentions it in the video, I only watched the introduction), 1968 was the first year of the 302...prior Mustangs with SB V8's came with the venerable 289. Also as a tidbit about the 302, it was used as the basis for the GT40 LeMans winning cars of '68 and '69, which had 5.0 liter restrictions those years.
You never rode in my Uncle Wayne's 57 Chevy pickup. It was an original V-8 overdrive truck with 4:11 gears. However, my uncle raced stock cars and needed more power. A full race 327 was the ticket and that little 3100 would scoot like you can't believe. He could ruin a Corvette owners day with no trouble.
Look closer and you will see that the casters chewed up their nice shop floor. And as others have mentioned, trying to work inside the engine bay would be pretty much impossible with the hydraulics right in the way. The only way to do it, would be to back the car on it every time. Thanks, but I'll pass.
Tributes and clones are very nice to look at and pro b ably drive and surely theres a market for them but the price of this units should reflect what they are and is not originals!!! In my 71 yrs i have seen so many so called originals that makes me wonder if all of the big 3 are still producing some of this cars, of course all builders and auctions have made sure that this cars are out of everyones reach, bottom line is when nobody buys these cars at over inflated prices i guess auctions will b out of bussiness, sorry about ur luck
Absolutely gorgeous. The color of the overall paint is so crisp. Very interesting the verification for GT original type. Here in Mexico, for sure I will find only 1 or 2 as the GT is so rare. The car is a candy on fourwheels. My compliments for all those beautiful ponies.
Why is the windscreen frame the same as the body, that's an only 1969 model year. The BL fender badges look wonky. Miata seats are not concours either.
If you run a 11:1 compression non computer controlled engine with 91 octane you have to retard the timing to the point where the thing is basically dead. I am telling you this from experience
Exhaust cools off faster than the rest of the engine. If you really want to prove it's a "cold start", show me the temp of the t-stat housing... compared to the concrete under the car. Old cars should never be hard to start anyway. They were designed to start easily just like modern cars. If they're tuned properly, they'll "cold start" just fine regardless of ambient temp/weather. I honestly don't know why people make such a big deal out of "cold starts". Nice car though... I like to see survivors that look just as good as restorations.
- Yeah, a properly tuned carbureted car starts as soon as the first piston comes up... don't even hear the starter cranking it over... unless has been sitting undriven for some time... Today's EFI cars crank over several times while the computer figures out where all the engine parts are... Young people think we used to buy new carbureted cars that barely started and ran crappy... I only wonder why anyone ever bought a new oddfire V6 car... LOL!
some one commented on the video why did they get rid of fuel injection.. he said he worked at the plant at that time he said the engines were all tested with natural gas , just way easier , but then there was fires too many...and no more fuel injection because fires there
