Hey~ from a guy who as been fighting the wind (and his brush, and his palette....) while painting, grab some binder clips for the sketchbook! it helps so much! and I like the splatter! I do the same!!
Thanks - the artist roll is a Faber-Castell roll. It's actually a bit much for what I carry as it fits 45 items and I typically bring 15 or so with me.
I just did a little plein air watercolor over the weekend... it was so fun and I was surprised how quickly time passed and shadows/lights changed. Anyway, these sketches are great.
I just got a Sailor Fude (fooday i think) pen too (the green one) and I’m trying to get used to it as well. Great piece! One day I would love to join you guys (USKtoronto) I just haven’t been able to make any of the times work. Thanks for taking us along!

Quack! Your duck has a lot of personality and your pen drawing is amazing! I've seen another RU-vid plein air artist, Leslie Stolz, use a terry wristband (tennis players use them) to wipe her brushes on. Thought you might like that idea. How brave of you to experiment on camera! Ever try masking fluid? Your choice of subject matter really appeals to me -- gotta try it. Thanks.
Thank you again for your painting. Would love to see your painting supplies. I am think to get Daniel Smith palette that you are using. I am a beginner of sketching but I think this palette will last me a long time. Is that a good investment? Thanks again for what you do.
Thanks Pearl. I would like to do a video on supplies but I’m relatively new so still exploring. I do use Daniel Smith paints and I enjoy them but I’ve only ever used one other paint set (an entry level Windsor and Newton paint set). The Daniel Smith I really enjoy though I’ve heard that other professional level paints are just as good. I’d recommend talking to someone at your local art shop - good paper and good paint does make the process more enjoyable.
Wow 🤩 your video is wonderful, very inspiring. I also take classes with the artist Pitó Campos, an excellent teacher………… But you have been a pure and genuine inspiration🎉👏👏👏👏👏👏you inspired me to paint outdoors and this country is spectacular for that😍 congratulations and thank you so much from London, Ontario 🇨🇦.
Can you show us your camera setup? You’ve positioned your camera in such a nice way so we can see everything of what you’re doing, which is absolutely great and educational. I’ve wanted to film myself drawing but just can’t quite get the right camera angle. Thanks!
Hi Annie, I use my phone camera with a gorilla grip tripod. In this video I wrapped it around my bike handlebars to get the shot. It’s not a perfect method and depending on the location it’s harder to find a good position.
When I saw 'High Park' I had to take a look...and I was intrigued with how you manage plein air and landscapes (my subjects are portraits human and animal and florals at a desk). I've lived in several neighbourhoods in T.O. including H.P., and as a sailor, visited your sailboat video too...painting and T.O. felt like home!. Anyway, my recent visit to a family chalet in the Laurentians has me wanting to paint it - How to do landscape???!! Foilage???!!! I'll be checking our more of your videos.
Thank you Janacvk. I’ve struggled with landscapes and nature scenes but I really want to improve because I enjoy being in nature to draw. I took a Domestika course by Daniel Pito Campos on landscape watercolour that I learned a lot from.
I like this takeaway from your normal urban sketching. Could you do more of the nature simplified watercolor/ink studies? Thank you for your time and talent!
Love this train painting. And I cannot believe you got those letters done so well w that big brush! Well done. You have command of your brush, that’s for sure. It’s nice to see you learning new things and analyzing as you go. I have painted for a long while and am still learning-there’s so much to keep seeking w watercolors. That is for sharing!
32:40 Is it the case that reality, as it were, appears differently than in a photo? Maybe the light was different and/or changing? I wonder... In any case, the sketch and washes--quite lovely. Thank you for taking us along on this journey 😊 Wishing you great and lasting health🌺
Yes, the light would definitely have changed from when I took the photo and the camera lens is different than the lens of a human eye. Thank you surrected for the comment and nice wishes.
Love love your watercolor painting. What highlighter white pen are you using? It works really well for highlighting. I use gouache white paint which is cumbersome to use. I like your pen. Would you please share what brand and what pen are you using. Thank you from Canada.
Thank you Pearlkally - the pen is a Posca paint marker. It’s funny I just picked up a tube of white gouache to try for highlights and I do find it cumbersome.
Very nice airy sketch. Captain Tom is my sketchy hero as well. As for waterproof inks for fountain pens I can recommend Platinum Carbon Black ink or deAtramentis Document inks. Both uses Tom as well, I like more the first one.
I'm no expert but I tend to like my trees when I barely put down an ink outline and build the leaves out of paint splotches or dots, rather than lines or swirls. Then I layer darker spots and lighter spits to make it feel more 3d. But I'm probably not the one to take advice from hahah
There is a rig for overhead filming made by neewer being sold on Amazon that looks pretty good. I also have model railways and I often do how to video’ s but often the subject us out of frame🤣
Cars are challenging. I have been sketching the. cora few years now and it doesn’t get easy. Wheels are particularly difficult but I like your comment about not producing a computer drawing. I probably make it difficult for myself trying to make them realistic looking when I don’t have those skills. Very frustrating Thanks for sharing your thought’s, I too am not that comfortable sketching in front of people.
A very lovely sketch, I like your style. Thank fo explaining your proces, why you do certain things. I'll watch more of your sketches. The music isnt necessary, especially as you're speaking. The odd moments of silence are ok, but i do prefer hearing the artist's voice, thanks.
@@AGsBlog_ I admire that you pulled out the sketchbook even thought the weather wasn´t so good. Is it Etchr A5 or A4? Next time you take a trip around Europe you have to stop by the Czech republic as well :-)
