Ive done something similar, took me around 3 months - definitely learned a lot of similar stuff u mention here, cmake as well! My was based on SFML, it is eye opening how engines like unreal which i use professionally may work under the hood with a billion wrappers around cpp :)

Very cool ! Me too, In the past few months I've been working on my 3D game engine in C++ , and tbh I like how I have full control over how features are implemented, beside deeper understanding of game development, which I would probably not get from Off-the-shelf engines.

The only advice I can give you is to focus on programming and making projects and not trying to get attention on RU-vid (or blogging), the only time you should be trying to get attention is when you have finished a game/project, because then you have something of value to share with the world. Otherwise you will be trapped in this grind of trying to make short format popcorn content to appease moron viewers on RU-vid which means you will have little incentive to actually excel in your programming. If you want to be an influencer ignore me, if you want to me a programmer, head my advice. I have nothing wrong with learning how to market yourself, but there is a time and place, a correct method of execution, if you can build up a RU-vid to promote projects of value you worked on sure I guess but this is the wrong way to invest your time and efforts if unless all you want is attention.

Shouldn't the other files have their own update function that is called from the main update function? That's how it's done in other game libraries like gosu, love2d, pygame. That is what I do, I have each object have its own update or draw, but they are all simply called from the original update and draw. You simply pass the delta time from update to any of the other update functions that need it.

Game engines are usually written in C++. Unity and Unreal are both written in C++.

That's also how it is with 90% of AI content. Before the ChatGPT craze, I could look up AI videos and find people really passionate about tech talking about a niche function of a deep neural network they made or discovered. Now every time I look something up all I see is, "The singularity is here!", "I tricked ChatGPT into thinking it was a person", "speed up your productivity with these AI tools." Even some AI channels I first learned AI from have joined that bandwagon.
