Good battle report guys, well done. Getting back into BA from a very long hiatus. Was wondering what do you think of the new Mounted MMG rules where the amount of shots are halved?
Thanks for the comment and welcome back 👍🏻 I understand why they did it… those daka tanks were a pain… but I kinda liked the tank and armoured cars being viable with machine guns. Once we get a few games in with v3 I will probably have a more accurate idea of how they work… but for now, we will see. Welcome to the channel and hope you have subscribed 👍🏻
Hi. Another great report with a very nice board. You guys certainly know how to do terrain!! Could I enquire where you got the palm trees, please? Thanks for posting
40:30 shouldn't this rifle escape? 8 - 1pin -1 for being lonely is 6 and you rolled 7 on the dice. German oficer should run too 9 -2pin -1 for being lonely.but apart from that it's a very nice game.I would love to see 2v2 or 1v1v1v1 with Germany, UK, USA and Japan
No, where does it say -1 to morale for being alone? I haven’t seen that before. You get -1 to firing for being alone as there is no loader… the only penalty is-1 for pin. Hope this helps!?
@@theministryofminiaturesI found this, on page 42 it says that "Crewed weapons and weapons teams don't heve specific model as leaders, but if the team is reduced to one last crewman, it also suffers a -1 penalty to its morale value innthe same way" it is written next to the "Squad Leaders" paragraph. so all in all, the officer would survive, but the AT rifle certainly wouldn't
So it does… thanks, I have never played that, nor have anyone in any of the games I have played… But as I said, we are moving onto v3 so the team has this rule as the person with the weapon is classed as the NCO in the new version. Every day is a school day 👍🏻 The main thing, as Warlord Games say… if you are having fun, you are doing it right. Hopefully you still Enjoyed it 👍🏻 thanks for the feedback
Looking forward to the game, but quick question. The Indian Army list as per p23 in the Duel in the Sun campaign book, it states that you can trade all 3 British Army special rules for free reg 10 man rifle squad and being allowed to re-roll failed morale checks for inf & art, ie you do not retain the free art observer. Is there another Indian Army list that I'm not aware of?
The army list is the 1940-42 Commonwealth Infantry Brigade from the Western Desert… they forgo the usual British traits and replace it with Indian: Unsurpassed Bravery. This doesn’t impact on the free observer, but does prevent them from having any of the British characteristics. This is one of the reasons why the free units have been removed from3rd ed, and my last chance to utilise it in a game!
@@theministryofminiatures Many thanks, but I think the re-roll for morale is better than the free art observer. I'm happy to play with the new rules in Ed3, but I dislike the new army lists. I have the main armies with numerous options, but have Italian, Finnish and Hungarian armies of @ 1,000 pts and do not wish to make my current campaign books redundant. I'll probably play Ed 2.5. Great game and board.
Thanks, we have found the same… some in our group have several 1000 point armies and feel that they cannot play without buying some more bits. We are looking at our armies to see what we can do to make them fit as best as possible… we might have to help each other out with some spares to make the armies work. 👍🏻🤞🏻
All three sides look amazing. Loving the 8th army, your matilda looks so much better than mine. My blue is too blue. Great battle rep as always. Looking forward to all the v3 content. I'm gonna need more arty
😂🤣 I know… but she was pushing her luck saving all those Soviets! Glad you liked it. We are looking at the River crossing over the Don as an assault/dawn raid next, then into Stalingrad… But that’ll probably be 3rdEd by then! Thanks for you comments as always👍🏻
@@theministryofminiatures I enjoy all your reports, but this Barbarossa series is the icing on the cake. What they do show is that inexperienced troops may be cheap, but they are no match when up against veterans….well, that and rolling all those “1s” 😂
@@christopherstaerck1112 thank you 🙏… the dice were definitely a key factor, could’ve been a different game if those tanks had kicked in! Thanks again for the positive comments 👍🏻
The armoured car model is an SkdFz-231 (8-Rad). I love the radio truck and a very nice paint job on it too! Any game with Pz 38(t) light tanks is immediately a winner with me. Well done! Was the Pz III armed with a 3.7 cm/L46 gun or a 5.0 cm/L42 gun? If the former why didn't the Soviets lead with their tanks which should have been all but invulnerable to 3.7 cm weapon's? Good game and an enjoyable video Bat. Rep. Thank for taking the time and and making the effort to share these videos with us. They are much appreciated. Cheers and good gaming. Rod.
Thank you. Yes the 8 Rad I believe I called a 222 at one point, but that was just a slip as I wasn’t concentrating on the vehicle… trying to film and work out the next move sometimes gets tricky! I too was surprised that Michael didn’t push forward with his tanks, they could’ve picked off mine if a little closer… but I think he was worried about loosing them, which helped me! Plenty more to come so thank you again for your comments and positive feedback 👍🏻
Great report, thanks fir posting. Your board looks amazing!! The buildings and fences are really well painted and weathered. You probably know by now, but not only is the Ba 64 anachronistic, but so is the sdkfz 250/9. It saw troops trials a year after Barbarossa and went into production at the end of 1942. Keep it up guys.
@@longstreet0163 thank you for the feedback and the comments, glad you enjoyed it… we are somewhat limited but the figures and vehicles we have inout collections, but hopefully that didn’t ruin it too much for you 👍🏻😉🤞🏻 Thanks again
@theministryofminiatures It didn't spoil it at all, I enjoyed it. I also learned more about this game from you guys than from anywhere else. I informed you of the discrepancy because you mentioned that someone would do so in the comments. Just trying to help.
I've not seen anything in the HC rules allowing an army order (divisional only)--lmk if I'm wrong. Again, I seem to be following in your (15mm) footsteps putting together a Pontic army (but focused on the 3rd Mithridatic War. I don't have the official army lists, but I'm guessing its a large (compared to the Romans) army with lots of light infantry (but other units with more punch: cataphracts, hvy cav, warbands and a number of imitation legions). BTW, my lists give the imitation legions pilum--again, if you can, lmk if the HC list prohibits this.
@@theministryofminiatures Yes, we do use 2nd edition, but I just don't see army orders. Page number? This might be more of a George question, but I am curious if the HC army list doesn't give the imitation legion pilum. The lists I've consulted, do....
@@grantforsythe479the army order is general advance, in my Punic wars book it’s page 104, but that might be different in the main rule book. It is the main commander who issues the order if passing an order test, and no other commander can give an order… this is after any initiative moves. George wrote the lists so I will ask him to comment on the pilum question 👍🏻
Hi, George here. The army order is actually called General Advance and is on page 136. The imitation Roman Legion do NOT have the Pilum special rule in the Hail Caesar Biblical & Classical army list book. They have a short range of 3 and are described as being armed with Spear/Javelin. If you want to give it to them go ahead it does not seem unreasonable to me.
Thank you, glad you are enjoying the campaign, we have some new ideas for some Stalingrad battles, and have started pulling together some scenery for the final battles in Berlin! Thanks again for the positive feedback 👍🏻
Thank you, and yes the Osprey book enables us to check some of the history behind the battles and for us to work out scenarios and armies etc. Thanks 👍🏻
Great video. I tend to prefer HC in 15mm (unless it’s WOTR) so nice to see these. One thing that I’m not sure you’ve noticed (only got to the 30-45 minute mark as we’re just going out), often you need to roll the dice for supports separately (or use different colour dice) because only the unit actually fighting will get the +1 for charging / winning the fight. At 32:26, I might have the unit type wrong, but are the Javelin light infantry in the front line skirmishers? If so, they are a troop type that can’t be supported (and are restricted to open order). If they were light infantry they can be supported but the unit providing support would also need to take a break test. AFAIK there isn’t an option to just not care. They can’t get support AND have the unit behind not be bothered if they break.
Thanks, we are fairly new to Hail Caesar so are still learning the rules and how different units work… but enjoying the journey 👍🏻 Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
@theministryofminiatures Welcome and as I said, great video. We’ve played a fair bit now but still miss things, we also get confused with Black Powder sometimes. Other mistakes we’ve made: not moving the full distance for an evade (it’s not up to 1, 2, or 3 it’s the full move) and for ages were playing flank attacks wrong too, if hit front AND side it’s two fights not one plus a support. Still, we’re getting there.
Thank you, it is always nice to get positive feedback, helps know that we are doing something right 👍🏻 We have more videos on the way, just busy period with everyone in the group having other commitments and life getting in the way… …but we will get putting out what we can - thanks again 👍🏻
No, not normally… but this is a specialist sniper in the German list that if you pay extra for, he has the chance to take two shots at the same target. That may well change with 3rd Edition Bolt Action though!
@@theministryofminiatures where does it say about that sniper?. Rules or the armies book? I've never seen anything about that. Is it unique to a certain list build? If so which?
We use easy army quite a lot… Rick has used the sniper a few times, we are both happy that generally (but not always) we are fairly liberal with the army list, in this instance it adds a little bit of fun to the list 👍🏻 I think v3 will nerf the snipers a fair bit, so we are making the most of them!
Love the terrain mat...Looks like a Geek Villain one....Im planning a Russian campaign...any suggestions on which ones to go for if this is a Geek Villain...thinking of savannah or stoney ground
Hi the mat is from Gale Force 9. We have a great selection of mats, but by far the bast value and versatile are the Geek Villain mats. I always try to get mats that can be used in different areas, so get the bast value for money… either of those Geek villain mats would work well as you will likely add scenery on to it too 👍🏻
20th August... My great-great uncle was killed 5 days later, aged 25. Uncovered his medals when great nan passed away and found his info on CWGC. Going on holiday to France next week and hoping to take his medals to the cemetery. Excellent battle report again, thanks lads
What an amazing story, good luck with your travels and I hope your family are proud 👍🏻 you must be very excited to have the privilege. Well done and safe journey.
@@darrenpenson2930 cheers 👍🏻 We are looking forward to version 3 and getting our armies in order now as it won’t be long until we get the new version released!
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated 👍🏻 I know George has put an update on another comment in this video with the list of manufacturers, hope this helps? Thanks again
@@rellian_minis thank you and glad you enjoyed it, the figures are from Peter Pig, George has done a great job with them… we do like 15mm so we can get the extra figures on the table!
