Hi Everyone! I'm Audrey. Welcome to Chapter and Converse!

So it's "CHAPTER" as in books. Reading. Writing. Hauling. Recommending. Obsessing. And "CHAPTER" as in the what comes next. My next chapter and wherever that takes me.

And it's "CONVERSE" as in con*verse: verb: engage in conversation. Chat. A lot. I thought it was so clever at the time. (Insert heavy sigh!). Sadly not a channel about sneakers. (But I did have a perfect pair of burgundy Chuck Taylors for ages!)

But back to the books: I love stories about dark and messed up people doing dark and messed up things. I gravitate towards mystery/thrillers/suspense and contemporary fiction, but have been know to dive into non-fiction, romance, true crime, YA and some spooky horror vibes. Complicated, unlikeable characters. Isolated mysteries. Small town secrets. Dual timelines. Lots of POVs. I'm all in!

Thanks for stopping by. For inquiries feel free to email me at chapterandconverse@gmail.com.

I started the Kay Scarpetta series on your recommendation and I’m on Cruel & Unusual (#4) since I started last year! I also started the Grant County series by Karin Slaughter this year and I love them both. They’re similar but great!

I've also read two very good books recently: 1) All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker 2) What Have You Done? by Shari Lapena Both were strong 4 stars to me. I have 8 more Bingo squares to complete. 🎉

I used to love the Scarpetta novels until...Patricia Cornwell wrote a scene where Marino does something appalling to Kay. I thought this was so out of character and totally unnecessary to the story. Also, I got sick of hearing how successful, rich, smart and powerful the characters were. In particular, her niece Lucy. She is a genius who becomes a millionaire and in her spare time becomes a helicopter pilot. I stopped reading after the Marino incident. I don't want to say more and spoil it for anyone, but if you've read it, I think you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Exactly. Every once in awhile I try one of them again but after a chapter or so I realize I just can't.

Scarpetta novels used to be enjoyable but with Marino’s incessant whining could not take it anymore and stopped reading. 😢Kay may be able to put up with it but this reader cannot….

The way you feel about the Kay Scarpetta books is the way I feel about the Inspector Gamache 3 Pines books by Louise Penny. I love them so much and I can’t get enough.

Great video. I just got notice from the library that the new Swanson is in for me! I’m currently reading the Briar Club and listening to The Pairing. Enjoying both. Every time I hear you talk about the Scarpetta books, I think I need to reread them. I don’t know exactly where or why I stopped reading them but I would like to figure it out. Happy reading!

I keep forgetting to go back in to the Kay Scarpetta books. The audiobooks are easy to listen to. A few stand outs this past month: Assassins Anonymous by Rob Hart. So much fun! Lenny Marks Gets Away with Murder by Kerryn Mayne. The Bump by Sidney Karger. Read this off your rec and loved it. Bear by Julia Phillips

Hey Audrey, I'm going onto book 4 of the Scarpetta series "Cruel And Unusual" as soon as i've finished my current two reads which are The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren and What's Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, Its Cast and Crew, and Its Enduring Legacy of Service" by Melissa Fitzgerald and Mary McCormack (huge West Wing fan, I love it as much as you love murder she wrote LOL). I can't wait for your review of Witness 8 by Steve Cavanagh and I would love more Patricia Cornwell Scarpetta book reviews/talk. Love the channel keep up the great work.

Riley Sagers Middle of the Night got some mixed reviews, but I loved it! And Final Girls is my favourite Sager book! I was not a fan of The Hunting Wives (I gave it 2 stars), so I'm a bit apprehensive of The Hollywood Assistant but I definitely may pick up some Peter Swanson books I literally have some on my shelf 😂

OMG. You have me laughing. I just did a Sephora haul and got the same Summer Fridays combo. I love their Jet Lag mask. I’m also a Laneige fan and hauled the watermelon pop lip mask. I’m glad that I am not the only one influenced into trying beauty products. I have a love/hate relationship with sheet masks since they never stay in place. Same with eye patches. I will need to try the ones that allow you to use your preferred product and stay in place. In terms of your foot…how many miles/months/years have you worn the same shoes for your exercise walks?? I know that the recommendation is to replace them after a certain point, or at least try orthopedic inserts. Good luck with recovering from that unknown issue. It’s such a frustratingly slow process but may be as simple as new shoes.

What a Fun Ride of a video!….as to being one of your newbies…..I hadn’t seen this type of video presentations from You…..I guess maybe I thought You were all about mysteries ….a bit of dark here and there with some psychological twisters thrown in to keep one on the edge…..and now we’re shopping Sephora with You while You grab some viddles at the grocery store…..reminding You to call the Dr. just to check the arch of your rolled foot……all while vacuuming, folding clothes and cheering on the Mets…..this 73 year old happy Ager was exhausted and had to gladly take a nap…..I love your scrappy style Kiddo!

I'm currently reading All the Colors of the Dark which has a very unique storyline. It's almost 600 pages and I still have about 200 to go. And I have an idea for a possible future Bingo prompt--how about a book written by two authors together?
