@@shipleypestsolutions These things are just another variant of yellow jackets. A less aggressive version. Hundreds of people a day deal with nests like this on their own without any problem. My grandmother (who is long gone) grew up during the depression era and their solution for stuff like this was throw some gas on it or in the case of a yellow jacket nest stuff a glass bottle filled with fuel into the entrance. Now we have bottles of spray that will launch product that kills on contact 20 feet. Just go early in the morning when they are all home and not active.
@shipleypestsolutions
@shipleypestsolutions 13 часов назад
@@JnaathraBald Faced Hornets are not “less aggressive” it’s the exact opposite. Also, hornets do not have a barbed stinger, meaning they can and will sting you repeatedly. Yellow Jackets have a barbed stinger and can normally only sting once. You can not “throw some gas” on a nest like this or you will burn down the pole barn. I’m not the guy/business that scares people into a service. I’m honest and practical and tell people to call us if they need us. If you have a ground nest in the backyard and you wanna go about it the “old way” and it works, that’s great. I’m genuinely happy and fine with that but many people don’t want to or can’t (elderly) and need a professional to take care of it.

If you have access to a power washer you can use hot water with some Dawn dish detergent and power wash the little bit that left on the garage door at the end . Than about few days later retreat the area with your spray . Than a week after that repaint the area so you can’t tell anything was ever there .

Looks like they are all the same setting and lots of different sites have posted the same pics, but they're out there if you wanna see them. I got stung by a wasp the day before yesterday. I was out blowing off the patio with my blower and apparently some wasps had built a nest under one of the deck chairs. Man, he got me GOOD on the leg! Drew blood even! Good thing I'm not allergic. You probably about know this, I helped a friend who had a few yellow jacket nests, and I know they are all in at dark, so I took the duster to puff them, the first time I made the mistake of wearing a headlamp, and yep, they came out and flew directly towards the headlamp. The next time, I put a flashlight a few feet to the right of the hole and I came in from the left, worked much better, as a few that came out went to the light. After about 30 minutes, I stuck a drink bottle in the hole, so that any that might come out could not go anywhere, that also worked well, as the hole was a tight fit for a 16oz drink bottle top.

Temp dust was used in this situation (according to our state & federal laws). The dust works by getting on the hornets/wasps/etc. They need to be very clean to fly and will clean themselves to try to fly and move around, in doing so, ingesting the product that will kill them.

I’ve been seeing more bees, wasps and stinging type insects in general this summer so far than I ever remember even noticing. And now here lately a few different kinds have been showing up. The all black looking wasps that are a little bit smaller than normal red and brown wasps. They also seem to even flap their wings unlike a regular wasp. Also tons of dragonflies, which I don’t mind as much about those. But there’s also something else I see here lately that’s huge like the dragonfly but it doesn’t seem to be a dragonfly. It almost looks like a hornet/dragonfly hybrid. Any idea what these could be? Great information and video.. subbed 👍
@shipleypestsolutions
@shipleypestsolutions 19 дней назад
The wasps you are seeing could be a type of parasitic wasp. They hunt spiders and other insects. I bet the dragonfly/hornet thing you are seeing is a “Cicada Killer”. They are harmless to humans but large and intimidating. They’ll hunt cicadas and other large insects, stay fairly low to the ground and live around dry soil. They typically are only around for a few weeks in the middle of summer (most dry time) and then will go away. Appreciate the sub and we’ll keep the information coming!

I have a white faced hornets nest on the side of my house about six feet away from a window that is always open this time of years so that the cats can go in and out as they please. Only two of them have actually come into the house as far as i know. One of them died on a kitchen counter, and am not sure why. The other one i thought was dead floating in a bowl filled with water in the sink. I scooped it out with a spoon and noticed it was still alive. I could have just washed it down the sink, but decided to just toss it out the window where it could possibly recover and rejoin the hive. If it has any intelligence it will know that coming in the house is not the safest place to go. That nest has been there for a few weeks, but i just noticed it a couple days ago. I am out there frequently doing yard work and hanging out with the cats. I have never even seen any of the hornets fly anywhere near me. So far, i have been leaving them alone and they have been leaving me and the cats alone. They have been doing their thing which is probably hunting other bugs in my yard and working on their hive. At this point, i am not really sure what i will do about it.
